4/15 NJPW ROAD TO WRESTLING DONTAKU 2021 IN TOKYO, JAPAN REPORT

By James Kurokawa on 2021-04-15 16:36:00

4/15/21 Results from New Japan's Road to Wrestling Dontaku 2021 - Korakuen Hall, Japan:

Tomoaki Honma, SHO and YOH vs. Minoru Suzuki, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado.  The match started off quick with Suzuki-Gun attacking at the bell.   Suzuki isolated SHO and attacked his right ankle with submission holds.   He was setting up SHO for Desperado's finisher, Numero Dos.   SHO is able to tag to YOH.  YOH showcased his skills against Kanemaru and Desperado.   YOH has looked good since returning from his ACL injury.  Suzuki and Honma paired off.   Suzuki locked Honma in an ankle submission.   Honma makes it to the ropes.  Suzuki pulls him to the middle and traps in another version of the ankle submission.  Honma taps out immediately.  Suzuki-Gun gets the win.  Kanemaru and Desperado beat down Roppongi 3K leaving them laying on the ring floor.

DOUKI, Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi vs. Jado, Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga.  Taichi and Tama Tonga tried to choke each other out.  ZSJ and Tanga Loa fighting each other is getting better and better.  DOUKI went for a Daybreaker but Tama Tonga caught him in a Gun Stun.    Tama Tonga pins DOUKI.  Taichi and Tama Tonga continued to fight after the match.  Taichi was choking out young lions as Suzuki-Gun made their way back to the locker.  Taichi choking everyone makes him really limited as a character.   I realize Taichi wants the Iron Finger back and he is channeling the "crazy" from Takashi Iizuka, the former owner of the Iron Finger and who acted like maniac.  Taichi is a good heel and could do more to show he is "crazy" other than just choking everyone in sight.

YOSHI-HASHI, Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto, Toru Yano and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Gedo, Taiji Ishimori, Yujiro Takahashi, KENTA and EVIL, with Dick Togo.  Wild match.   Too many men and too much action to keep up.    YOSHI-HASHI trapped Gedo in the Butterfly Lock.  Gedo was about to tap when the lights went out.   The lights came on and YOSHI-HASHI was being choked out by EVIL.   Yano low blowed EVIL and put a hood over his head and kicked him to the floor.  KENTA tried to hit YOSHI-HASHI with the Bo Staff but YOSHI-HASHI took him out with a lariat.     Gedo poked YOSHI-HASHI in the eye.  Gedo ran the ropes to attack but Goto caught Gedo and hit an ushigoroshi.   YOSHI-HASHI grabbed Gedo in the Butterfly Lock again.  Gedo taps out.  Bullet Club retreats after the match.   YOSHI-HASHI poses in the ring with his Bo Staff as his fellow CHAOS members enjoy the victory.   As they head to the locker room, KENTA comes out of nowhere and attacks YOSHI-HASHI.   KENTA steals the Bo Staff again.

BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito vs. Jeff Cobb and Great O-Khan.  Naito was mocking O-Khan on his way to the ring.  Naito took his time and played his mental games against the United Empire.     O-Khan took Naito's hat and made the Tranquilo pose.   Hilarious.   LIJ attacked and tried to beat down O-Khan until Cobb made the save.  United Empire beat down Naito.     Cobb pins BUSHI after a Tour of the Islands.  Naito was on the ring floor after getting beat down by O-Khan.   O-Khan turned his back to Naito and posed in the ring, returning the same behavior that Naito did coming to the ring.

SANADA and Shingo Takagi vs. Aaron Henare and Will Ospreay.  Ospreay and Henare came out fighting.  Ospreay took Takagi to the floor and started biting him.   LIJ took control by cornering Ospreay and keeping him away from Henare.   Henare made a blind tag and took SANADA to the floor.   SANADA gets thrown into the guardrails and the United Empire gets the advantage.  SANADA tags Takagi and he cleans house, taking on both Ospreay and Henare.  Pace of the match picks up.  Really good match.  SANADA takes out Ospreay with a plancha to the floor.  Takagi hits a Pumping Bomber on Henare.   Two count.   Takagi and Henare trade blows.  SANADA locks in Skull End.   Takagi takes out Ospreay with a lariat.   SANADA pushes Henare into Takagi who hits a wicked Last of the Dragon.   Takagi pins Henare.  Ospreay grabs his titles and huddles in the corner at ringside, while Takagi addresses the crowd.    Henare looked good in this match.  He can only get better when performing with athletes like Shingo Takagi, SANADA and Will Ospreay.
