AIW GO FOR BROKE EPISODE 2 ON INDEPENDENTWRESTLING.TV REPORT

By Joshua Higham on 2021-04-14 09:16:00

We are back in the undisclosed location in or around Cleveland, OH, (which may or may not be the Odeon) for the second episode of AIW’s Go for Broke. We talk a look back at the action of the premiere episode and the current leaderboard before we get to this week’s action over at coingpt.

We are introduced to the Blue Collar Brawler Kaplan, looking back at training under Johnny Gargano and the morbid joke that his coworkers had a dead pool on him. Kaplan talks about being arrested a bunch, drinking too much, and multiple DUIs. He’s joining the Biggins Cup tournament to refocus on his health, having already lost about 70 lbs recently.

AIW President Matt Wadsworth and AIW Owner John Thorne are in the commentary booth.

Kaplan and Twan Tucker trade strikes as this hoss fight starts. Twan is able to avoid a cannonball in the corner and connects with a big belly to belly suplex. Kaplan hits a shotgun dropkick and a split legged moonsault to get the three count. The Russian judge would’ve given that split legged moonsault only a 7 out of 10, but it was enough to keep Tucker down.

We get a filmed piece from The Production, Derek Dillinger and Ziggy Haim.

In the back, Twan is pissed and says not to count him out. We then listen in on The Duke and The Bitcoin Boyz strategizing before The Duke’s match.

Razor Sharpe vs the Duke is up next. Razor Sharpe wants Duke’s Golden Boot, which is not on the line. Quickly, the Duke takes over and wins with a Vader bomb.

We are introduced to TKD (Tommy Kyle Dean) talking about his martial arts background and being part of the LGBTQ community. He mentions using masculinity as a front in the past but then getting comfortable being himself in the world of pro wrestling.

We follow Razor Sharpe into the lounge where Josh Bishop is talking trash to everyone there. Josh Bishop and Wes Barkley leave as we get a look at The Production looking on.

TKD takes on Arthur McArthur. The commentary team mentions that McArthur has been wrestling pretty steadily throughout the pandemic, but TKD might have some ring rust by comparison. TKD has the advantage for most of the beginning of the match, but never goes for the cover, allowing McArthur an opening to take control. We’re told Ziggy Haim has requested a match with Absolute and Intense Champion Josh Bishop. McArthur cinches in an Iron Claw, but TKD escapes with a kick. TKD escapes a front facelock and nails a spinning back kick and scores the pin.

Back through the curtain, Arthur McArthur says that TKD was the better man tonight and that he’s gotta want it more.

In the ring, it’s time for Riley Rose vs Eric Taylor (accompanied by The Duke and Mikey Montgomery). Rose starts strong with a shotgun dropkick. Taylor counters an attempt with a fisherman’s suplex with a stunner and hits a curb stomp to get the win.

We meet Ethan Wright, who moved to Eldon, MO, to train at Harley Race’s camp at age 19. Eleven years later, Wright says he realizes the business has changed. He mentions being sure to say thank you the last time he saw Race before he died. Wright talks about doing AIW’s new talent initiative last year and the negative reception he received from the AIW fans that night. They called him a “no name,” but Wright promises he won’t be a no name for long.

The Duke is back with the Bitcoin Boyz, and The Duke has a plan: six man tag matches are the key for The Duke and Bitcoin Boyz to maximize their Biggins Bucks. (Editorial: The Duke doesn’t always have the best ideas, but I see where he’s coming from on this one.)

No Biggins Bucks on the line as Ziggy Haim takes on Absolute Intense Champion Josh Bishop. Ziggy does well to start strong, but Bishop catches Haim with a Black Hole Slam and gets the quick win. Josh Bishop forces the ref, Tom Dunn, to strap the titles on him.

In the lounge, The Duke is trying to trick Frankie Flynn, Arthur McArthur, and Twan Tucker into accepting a six person tag match. 40 Acres (PB Smooth, Tre Lamar, and Joseline Navarro) walks in and accepts the challenge instead.

That’s all for this week.
