British promotion World Pro Wrestling is set to return with a SuperClash event live on pay-per-view with FITE TV in 2022.
The first star confirmed for the show is 2 Cold Scorpio, who recently headlined Game Changer Wrestling’s For The Culture event against Rich Swann.
The promotion has teased a match between Scorpio and Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Naomichi Marufuji on social media dating back to last summer. The two faced off numerous times in All Japan Pro Wrestling and NOAH throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, although the situation remains very fluid due to the ongoing global pandemic.
As well as Marufuji, Japanese stars such as Kendo Kashin and Minoru Tanaka, Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Major League Wrestling’s Marshall Von Erich and Ross Von Erich are among the names who have been floated by the promotion on Twitter. However, Scorpio is the only confirmed name at present.
A blurb on WPW’s website confirms the company has opened talks with Tanaka, reading: “We have a long history of bringing top Japanese Stars to the UK, wpw have recently opened talks with Minoru Tanka and several other top Japanese stars about making there long awaited UK Debuts once the pandemic is over.”
WPW has brought top Japanese stars to England in the past. Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jushin Thunder Liger both wrestled for the company in 2014, with AJ Styles defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Doug Williams and Rampage Brown in a triple-way on the same show.
Fans can keep track of future announcements on WPW’s social media sites: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The company’s website can also be found here.
