Dwayne Johnson posted the following on Instagram:
"Black Adam ready???
It’s always the work we quietly put in when no one is watching that changes the game.
Grateful for the grind.

Production kicks off this week."
Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian predecessor of DC Comics' Shazam! who became corrupted after receiving his powers. He's one of the more powerful and popular DC Comic villains and will allow Rock to play a darker character. There were allusions made to him, but not by name, in DC's feature film adaptation of Shazam!
Originally, Black Adam was slated to start shooting this summer with a December 2021 release, but obviously, everything has been pushed back in regard to production due to COVID. Today's announcement was the first official word of a new release date.
Last year during DC Comics' Fandome virtual gathering, Johnson revealed that DC Comics' original superhero team The Justice Society of America would be featured in the film, including the characters of Hawkman, The Atom Smasher, Dr. Fate and Cyclone
