NEW CHAMPIONS CROWNED & MORE: NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING SAKURA GENESIS 2021 REPORT

4/4/21 Results for Sakura Genesis 202 from Ryogoku, Tokyo Japan:

Hiromu Takahashi comes to the ring.  He said he is not ready to come back yet.  He said he is looking forward to Los Ingobernales de Japon vs. United Empire.   He teases the new member to join.   He runs down the two title matches to come.  

DOUKI, Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi vs. Jado, Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga

The Iron Finger was taken by Tama Tonga in the match and but Taichi was able to get it and use it against Jado.  ZSJ pins Tanga Loa with a European Clutch.     This puts Dangerous Tekkers in line for the IWGP Tag Team Championship.

New Japan officials were able to get the Iron Finger and confiscated them.   Taichi lost his mind that the Iron Finger is gone again.

YOSHI-HASHI, Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto, Toru Yano and Kazuchika Okada vs. Taiji Ishimori, Yujiro Takahashi, Bad Luck Fale, KENTA and EVIL, with Dick Togo 

All hell breaks loose as CHAOS attacks.   Wild match.   Toru Yano low blows EVIL and Togo.  Yano puts a hood over Togo’s head and rolls him up in a small package for the pinfall win.  The hood was payback for Togo turning out the lights in past events.   KENTA was able to escape the match with YOSHI-HASHI’s Bo Staff.

Shingo Takagi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. ???, Jeff Cobb and Great O-Khan

O-Khan and Cobb make their way to the ring.   Toa Henare joins them in ring.  He is announced as Aaron Henare and the new member of the United Empire.    UE attacks at the bell.  They overpower LIJ very quickly.   Great fast paced power match.     Cobb hit Tour of the Islands on SANADA.   Henare hits a Death Valley Driver on SANADA.   Henare pins SANADA.  United Empire beats down Naito and attack his leg with a chair.  Los Ingobernales de Japon is left laying in the ring.   

O-Khan taunts Hiromu Takahashi who was doing Japanese commentary.

Satoshi Kojima and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Bad Luck Fale and Jay White, with Gedo

Tanahashi pins Fale with a High Fly Flow.  After the match, Tanahashi applies the Texas Cloverleaf to White, with him tapping out.  Tanahashi takes the mic and tells White that he accepts his challenge for the NEVER Openweight Championship.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match:  SHO and YOH vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado

Desperado focused his attack on YOH’s surgically repaired knee.   Suzuki-Gun really dissected Roppongi 3K early in the match.     SHO and YOH drop Kanemaru with a Shock Arrow and a dropkick.   Desperado makes the save.   YOH hits Kanemaru with a modified Butterfly Suplex/neck breaker.   YOH pins Kanemaru.

SHO and YOH are the new IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions!

YOH was very emotional after the match.  He thanked the fans and announced that he was looking for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship.

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match:  Kota Ibushi vs. Will Ospreay

Ospreay arrives to the ring alone.   His shoulder was still taped up.   The United Empire came to ringside in street clothes.    

Both men start with mat wrestling.   Ibushi attacked Ospreay’s shoulder with kicks and elbows.    Ospreay takes the match out to the floor and throws Ibushi into guardrails.    Ospreay drops Ibushi back first onto the guardrail.  Ouch!    

Back in the ring, they hammer each other with strikes.   Both men have red chests from the chops and kicks.    Ibushi hit a bridging German  suplex for a two count.

Ibushi kneed Ospreay in the nose.   They trade elbows and lariats.   

This is a great match. 

Ospreay hits two Shooting Star Presses.   Ibushi kicks out.   

Ibushi hits a Poisonrana off the top rope.   Ospreay lands on his feet.   Ibushi hits another Poisonrana and drops him on his head.    Ibushi hits a deadlift German suplex off the second rope.    Ospreay counters with a Spanish Fly.   Ospreay hits an Oscutter.   Two count.

Ospreay hits a Chelsea Grin.  Ibushi counters with two Kamagoyes.   Two count.

Too much to call here.  Brutal match.    

Ospreay hits the Hidden Blade, then hits Stormbreaker.   Ospreay pins Ibushi.

Will Ospreay wins the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship!

Cobb hits a Tour of the Islands on a fallen Ibushi.    The United Empire surrounds their new Champion as they pose in the ring.

The young lions carefully get Ibushi out of the ring.

Ospreay shouts that “God is Dead!”

Ospreay takes the mic and says 5 years to the day he debuted in New Japan.    He will not apologize for anything they did.   He states that he wants revenge for what happened at Wrestle Kingdom.    He calls out Kazuchika Okada.

Okada comes to the ring.   Shingo Takagi comes to the ring too.    Shingo says he beat Okada in the New Japan Cup.   Shingo says if Okada gets a shot then he should get a shot too.   

Ospreay says “First, Shingo”, then he turns to Okada and says “then I am coming for you”.

O-Khan tells the crowd to pay respect to the new King.  

Ospreay poses in the ring with his Belts and the New Japan Cup.
