Beyond Wrestling “Signature Series: Episode 6 (Finale)”

4/1/21 - Streaming on IWTV.LIVE

Last time on Beyond Wrestling’s “Signature Series” -

Tonight marks the end of Beyond’s 6-episode “Signature Series”. The Greatest Rivals Round Robin will be decided in the final clash, a rematch from “Shangrai La Magistral”, Chris Dickinson vs Matt Makowski. The Tournament For Tomorrow Tag Finals have made it down to previous winners The Bird & The Bee and Milk Chocolate. Beyond owner Denver Colorado (the man, not the place) is your host. Rich Palladino is your announcer. Paul Crockett and Twitter’s eternal birthday boy, Sidney Bakabella are on commentary.

Match 1: Robo the Punjabi Lion vs A Very Good Professional Wrestler

AVGPW & Robo are pretty well matched at first. AVGPW outwits the Lion with a well placed gut kick but Robo hits a powerslam for two. Sidney Bakabella is VERY HOT for AVGPW. AVGPW manages to the grind Robo’s head and shoulder down and then works a camel clutch. Robo powers out but eats knees and a spinning neckbreaker. Abdominal stretch and AVGPW drops elbows to the head....Robo out to hit a codebreaker. AVGPW catches the follow up into a sitout powerbomb for two. Robo knees his way out of a vertical suplex and hits a uranage. Big buckle bomb but Robo only gets a two. AVGPW with a sunset flip but only two. Both guys are trading shots as they get to their feet. Robo rocks him, running knee! AVGPW tears at the nose to escape a fireman’s carry and hits a stiff DDT from that position. Robo is cold and down for the count.

Winner:  A Very Good Professional Wrestler

AVGPW (fka Dasher Hatfield) is as advertised. Bakabella is right to put him over as much as he does. Robo continues to up his game every time I see him. This was a great showcase for both guys.

Match 2: Matthew Justice vs SLADE (No DQ)

The match that didn’t happen as advertised at “Beyond Championship Wrestling” happens tonight for real. They fight out of the ring and out the side door immediately. SLAD gets suplexed onto a chair on the concrete. Justice steals all the chairs from commentary and blasts SLADE with one. SLADE sent into the wall but reverses a suplex into a pile of chairs. The man from Rivers Island blasts Justice with a chair and goes searching for more plunder. SLADE gets Sabu’d and thrown into a barrel. Justice tenderizes him with some more shots but SLADE hits an exploder through a door at ringside. They finally make it in to the ring, trading shots until SLADE hits a chokeslam into a trash can. A second chokeslam onto the top of the can but that doesn’t do it. SLADE unleashes about a dozen chair shots and grabs a hammer from under the ring. HE BLASTS IT INTO THE CHAIR ON JUSTICE’S HEAD. OH GOD. SLADE isn’t going for the pin and commentary is horrified by this. SLADE wants another hammer shot but Justice moves and powerslams SLADE into the chair. Cactus clotheline to the outside. Dive from Justice who then decides he needs another table. Justice smashes the trash can over SLADE’s head and puts it over his head......JUSTICE WITH A VAN TERMINATOR! SLADE is busted WIDE OPEN. Kick out! SLADE is laughing. Justice puts the can over SLADE’s head and hits a top rope splash. Kick out! Justice wipes SLADE’s blood on his face before laying him out over a pair of tables, lays a chair on top and blasts him with the hammer! Justice to the top, SLADE throws a table AT him. SLADE catches him at the top and superplexes and they BOUNCE off the hardware. I AM THE TABLE. SLADE chokeslams Justice into the upended table supports. Crockett and Bakabella are screaming for them to end this but they are committed to killing each other. SLADE pulls out handcuffs ...he cuffs himself and uses them to choke out Justice. Justice is pulled into a handcuffs camel clutch. It’s deep and Matthew Justice is forced to tap.

Winner: SLADE

Look, you read what I saw. This was one of the most uncomfortably violent matches I’ve seen Beyond put on in a WHILE. Which....like....it was kinda fantastic, in that way. This was some beautiful ECW throwback style (which Matthew Justice more or less perpetually lives in). Your mileage may vary but I Loved it. SLADE is a PRESENCE.

Match 3: The Bird & The Bee (Willow Nightingale & Solo Darling) vs Milk Chocolate (Randy Summers & Brandon Watts) (Tournament For Tomorrow Finals)

Milk Chocolate knows they HAVE TO win here and attack during the introduction. Willow dumped to the outside and MC aggressively works over Solo with fast tags and intense tandem offense. Solo getting stomped out repeatedly but she’s throwing hands defiantly. “You ain’t got S***!” Yells Summers but Solo ain’t dead. She catches Summers into a powerslam and gets the tag to Willow. Willow with a back elbow and hits the Pounce. Big spinebuster for two. Solo tagged in to hit a diving Hart Attack....but this leaves Solo back in the fray with Milk Chocolate. Watts plants Solo and goes right into a STF....Solo rolls him into a cross face. Summers distracts the ref as Watts taps out. Watts grabs the powder and goes for the eyes of Solo. Darling blocks it but Willow isn’t s fortunate. Milk Chocolate dumps Solo and hits Willow with a wild series of kicks and strikes but she out at two. Willow is furious and clears the ring, Solo gets a sharpstinger on Summers but Watts shoves Willow in to break it up. Miscommunication and Solo collides with Willow. MC dumps Willow and hit Solo with a double vertical neck breaker for the pin.

Winners: Milk Chocolate

Watts goes on to say that after 10 years and a broken neck, what do they have to show for it? They promise to burn this place to the ground. Hell of a win for TFT’s perpetual losers, finally doing something that truly etches their name into Beyond’s history. Bird & Bee are a great team but this match was all Milk Chocolate’s time.

Main Event: “Dirty Daddy” Chris Dickinson vs “Weapon X” Matt Makowski (Greatest Rivals Round Robin: Match 6)

Both guys are at 2-0 in this round robin. Who goes 3-0? Will this match be another absolute banger? They know each other well and feel each other out briefly before grappling and rolling for position. Makowski works to the back of Dickinson but transitions to an armbar, that allows Dickinson to break up to his feet. Dickinson throwing some good leg kicks but Makowski sends him to the ropes with a solid shot to the head. Trading leg lariats. Dickinson gets a single leg and stomps out Matt’s back. Stalking with stomps and kicks but the DDirty Daddy starts dropping bombs from the top. Dickinson back to the single leg crab and transitions to a sharpshooter but he cant hold it. Makowski sent to the apron but he slingshots under the second rope into a rear naked choke. Dickinson transitions to a STF but Makowski gets the rope. Daddy hittin’ headbutts. Makowski with a LOUD STIFF kick to the chest. Dickinson returns that kick and we are going back and forth. This speeds up and Makowski catches a dragon screw. Dickinson fires up with more kicks and a standing sleeper but Maakowski plexus him out. Spin kick from Makowski and a butterfly suplex for two. Makowski transitions right to a arm bar atttempt but Daddy tries a chokes. Makowski makes space but runs into a DVD for two. Dickinson pummeling him in the corner with strikes. Dickinson with a spike piledriver but Makowski won’t stay down. Makowski with some defiant slaps and Dickinson wants the Pazuzu bomb....Makowski jumps into an arm breaker. Makowski with a german and transitions into a deep cross arm breaker and Dickinson taps out!

Winner: Matt Makowski

That was fantastic. Someone at ringside says “I wanna see another one of those”. Dickinson says “NOT tonight” and gives the ring to the victorious Makowski I know these guys have their own wins and losses but this round robin went 6-0 on awesome matches. Everyone looked great here but this was absolutely set up to be Matt Makowski’s definitive coming out party. It was bangers only (nod to ACTION), watch this whole damn GRRR.

And that’s it for Episode 6 and the Signature Series as a whole! Beyond put on 6 weeks of near perfect content. This is must-watch content for any indie fan, and a blueprint for any promotion that can’t run shows with fans in attendance. Having the roster at ringside ABSOLUTELY contributed to the vibe of the show, giving the workers something to play off of but really the work was the star of the show here every week. Just go back and watch this whole thing.

The Signature Series may be done but don’t forget: BEYOND. IS. BACK. Right after this show airs on IWTV, they have a live event (with fans in attendance) happening in their home venue in Worcester, MA. I’ll be switching to that now and will report back in a few hours. Until then!
