DRAFT KINGS ENTERS PARTNERSHIP WITH WWE

By Kendall Jenkins on 2021-04-01 08:38:00

This week sportsbook giant DraftKings penned a fresh partnership agreement with the WWE. The terms of the agreement largely focus on mutual brand awareness between the organisations’ audiences. In the upcoming WrestleMania, DraftKings will debut special wrestling offers as well as free-to-play games through its mobile application.

In exchange for bringing increased visibility to the WWE, DraftKings will receive exclusive brand awareness campaigns amid WWE activities. The exclusivity is reminiscent of what DraftKings had negotiated with the UFC for no small sum. It is suggested that this latter partnership racked up a $100 million bill.

Unfortunately fans will not be able to bet on WWE wrestling. Due to the scripted nature of the sport, it does not technically fall within the purview of competitive sports events. Match-fixing is a curse on professional athleticism, and because WWE involves feats of athleticism without the uncertain outcomes, accepting bets on these events is considered unethical.

This is why little discussion of professional wrestling can be found on sports betting community platforms. With the meteoric rise of DraftKings in recent years, it is evident that the bookmaker is simply trying to leverage every media outlet possible. In many US states, DraftKings has become synonymous with sports betting.

Nonetheless, the WWE hopes that exposure through DraftKings’ digital channels will recruit new fans to the ring. With the demographic of new sports bettors and wrestling fans strongly overlapping, consisting of men between the ages of 18 - 34, hopes are high that the partnership will be fruitful in the coming years.
