Now Available VOD on IWTV.live
The first half of Action’s March doubleheader is now live on IWTV! Coming off last month’s crowning of Action’s 2nd ever champion in Arik Royal (who makes his first defense on the 2nd show), this card’s main event is a grudge match between former champ AC Mack and the man that cost him his beloved Alice, Alan Angels. We are treated to a new Action highlight lead-in, featuring some of the best highlights of Action’s Covid-era shows. Dylan Hales and Jumpin’ Johnny Mosley are on commentary tonight.
Match 1: King Garuda & Takuri vs Bobby Flaco & Rob Killjoy
This is an interesting matchup as King Garuda’s ACTION debut was a few months ago against Flaco & Killjoy’s Skulk nemesis, Adrian Alanis. Takuri and Flaco test each other with some quick high-energy spots. Killjoy and Garuda tag in and go full lucha. Garuda gets isolated in the corner while Flaco and Killjoy work some tandem offense. Garuda dodges a flying Killjoy and he drapes himself into the top rope. Takuri tagged in to work him over with chops and kicks. High angle dropkick from Takuri for two. Garuda and Takuri unload a series of shots on Killjoy but he is resilient. Killjoy rolls out of danger and Flaco cross bodies in. Big cutter to Garuda and a spike DDT to Takuri for two. Stunner/German suplex combo on Takuri and Garuda makes the save. Takuri flips into the ring with a clothesline and powerslam. Killjoy slammed into Flaco by the large Takuri. They retreat to the floor and Takuri dives after them Garuda with a corkscrew dive to floor. Takuri & Garuda trying to finish off Flaco. Chaos of tandem offense, Flaco and Killjoy put Takuri down with a spin out ddt and a vertical neckbreaker.
Winner: Flaco & Killjoy
Good start to get Flaco and & Killjoy back into the win column....but they seem to have a little disagreement over who should have gotten that pinfall. Hmmmm. Solid opener energy. Lots of high spots, something didn’t QUITE flow right at times but the sum of it all definitely warmed up the crowd for more.
Match 2: “The Mat Scientist” Damyan Tangra vs “The Gaytriarch” Dillon McQueen
These are both EXCELLENT ring nicknames. Tangra wants a handshake, Dillon is all attitude and with a chest bump, Tangra has had enough. McQueen getting pummeled early and nearly locked into a STF. McQueen scrambles for the ropes to escape. Dillon wants a top rope arm drag but lands on his feet and slaps Tangra. Springboard knee to the back for two. Dillon comes in cocky but Tangra snaps up a arm triangle. Dillon escapes and rains shot. Dillon comes running and Tangra with a body scissors into a heel hook but McQueen BITES his way out. McQueen whiffs a bronco buster and eats elbows and clothelines. Big spin out gut buster from Tangra for two. McQueen with a backbreaker/flatliner combo outta nowhere for two. Tangra surprises McQueen, sending him to the center and slaps on a STF for the submission!
Winner: Damyan Tangra
This was great stuff. McQueen is a wonderfully cocky but scrappy heel. Tangra is technical and smooth. This was a great showcase for Tangra to finally get his first win in Action.
Match 3: Orion Bishop vs Ron Bass Jr. (w/ Nolan Edward)
Ah, it’s hoss o’clock! Orion Bishop has impressed in his last two outings in Action. Bass is a huge man, even compared to Bishop. Bishop is trying shoulder blocks but isn’t moving him. Bishop wants to whip him but gets corner splashed and pounced right out of the ring. Bishop is flustered but returns to the ring to trade chops and forearms. Orion finally sends Bass to the mat with a forearm. Bishop gets Bass onto his shoulders but that’s all he can do. Bass with a full Nelson slam. Bishop catches Bass in the corner and hits a german! Another big toss but only a two count. Bishop wants a suplex but....nah. Not happening. A DDT works though. Orion is stalking but Bass lands some shots to the kidney, a uppercut to the back of the head and a lariat for two. Bass goes up to the top and Bishop catches him there. Powerslam off the top and Bishop gets the three.
Winner: Orion Bishop
This was big men doing classic big men stuff. Solid win for Bishop, who was the smaller man in this contest by far and had to find a way to power through all that. Bass is newer to the sport so he has some growth ahead of him but he may have been in over his head against the very experienced Bishop here.
Match 4: “The Blacklisted Prince” Jared Evans vs “Redneck Ruler” Kavron Kanyon
Evans tells Kanyon to get out of his ring. Kanyon with a double clamp and a slam to answer that. Kav chases him around the ringside area but Evans jacks him on the top rope and slams into his shoulder to send him back down. Evans with corner stomps and elbows, swinging neckbreaker for two. Evans with a meteora for another two. Kav is hurting but battling back. Big lariat and a sidewalk slam for two. Kav with a top rope springboard elbow but misses. Evans with a springboard splash for two. Evans to the top but tossed from there. Kav hits that springboard elbow but it’s not enough! The crowd chanting “THAT WAS THREE”. It was CLOSE. Evans trips Kav into the bottom rope, hits a curb stomp and that’s the match.
Winner: Jared Evans
The crowd was WAY behind Kavron Kanyon here but it was not to be. Jared is easily hateable with his attitude and questionable tactics. Good showing from both guys here, especially Kanyon whose skills have grown a bit since I last saw him work a couple of years ago. Evans is on his way to the Cassandro Cup, with a shot at the IWTV Championship on the line.
Match 5: “Big Bad Kaiju” O’Shay Edwards vs “The Suplex Assassin” Alex Kane
Here’s one of tonight’s BIG bouts. Kane wants to take the Kaiju to Suplex Island. Aggressive technical start, Kane trying to wrestle with Edwards. Kane trying shoulder blocks and Edwards shrugs off the pounce and crumbles Kane with a shoulder block of his own. Edwards with stiff shots to the side of the head sends him down again and Edwards sends him to the floor. Kane is recovering but Edwards isn’t giving any quarter. Kane escapes his big grasp and posts O’Shay. That does NOT last as Edwards isn’t letting this kid have an inch. Kane tries a belly to belly suplex but Edwards ain’t having that either. Kane clubbed down and O’Shay jumps on his back and grabs a trap hold. Kane tries to come running but slams into the wall off the Kaiju. Kane wants that suplex but Edwards claps the ears. Kane FINALLY stuns the big man but goes for a powerbomb? Rolling elbow from Kane and hits a gutwrench powerbomb for two. Edwards is annoyed now and hits a spinebuster. Edwards with a german and a popup powerbomb for two. Edwards wants a burning hammer but Kane slips it and hits a X-plex! Kane has the straps down but Edwards with a roll up attempt for two. Kane with a cradle back suplex and Edwards pops right up, angry. Kane runs up and hits another and the Kaiju stays down for the three this time.
Winner: Alex Kane
Helllllllll yeah. Everyone wanted to know if Kane would hit double digits on his suplexes tonight but O’Shay Edwards was dominant throughout this. Kane hitting a SINGLE suplex was a great story of victory leading to the finish. Kaiju was clearly impressed as he draped his beads around Kane’s neck. The torch has beeen passed here between these two big men. Loved it.
Match 6: Cabana Man Dan vs Ashton Starr
Cabana Man Dan’s road to redemption starts tonight after Suge D has moved on from caring about him. Ashton is much taller than CMD and goes to his knees for a test of strength. Bad move, as CMD ties him up and sends Ashton to the floor to recoup. CMD stays ahead of Ashton with arm drags and tying up the arms over and over. Starr back to the floor but CMD slides out to rana him to the post and bounce his face off the apron with a drop toe hold. CMD on top but Starr swept off and clocks his head on the buckle. Flying neckbreaker from Starr for two. Northern lights bridge pin for another close call. Starr working a bow and arrow, reversing CMD into a backbreaker and stretch. Ashton comes running but eats boots to the face. Trading shot and CMD with a headbutt and we’re both down. CMD wants the sliced bread but Starr gets him in a double chicken wing, CMD rolls through for two. Ashton misses a big boot but gets wrapped up in the top rope. CMD with the Surf’s Up sliced bread for the pin.
Winner: Cabana Man Dan
Dan is back in the win column but he clearly isn’t done with the Good Hand. Good action here as Dan was WAY more aggressive here against a very game Ashton Starr. Liked this.
Match 7: The Skulk (Adrian Alanis & Liam Gray) vs Violence is Forever (Kevin Ku & Dominic Garrini)
The Skulk is ALL OVER the ringside crowd. ViF gets a huge pop on their arrival. Liam Gray is very proud of kicking Ku in the leg....and screams with Ku pays it back. Alanis tries to hype him up but Ku keeps hurting his friend. Alanis tags in and hits a quick sling blade to drop Ku, who suddenly realized the jokes are over. Liam back with a snap suplex for two but Ku has the space to tag Big Dom, who immediately slams Alanis into an armbar. Liam cuts it off, allowing Alanis to hit Dom with a spinebuster. Slingshot into a forearm and Dom is down for two more. Alanis stomping out Dom in the corner but he gets the leg. Gray in but gets wrapped up the same way. Alanis staying on Dom, but falls into another armbar. Alanis taps but he’s not the legal man. Gray with a splash from the top and almost gets the pin. Dom fights out of danger, hits a big german and tags in Ku. Ku is all over Gray with strikes and kicks. Snap dragon suplex to Gray and a running knee off the apron to Alanis. Dom in with a pop-up chop to Gray for two. ViF looking for Chasing the Dragon but Alanis cuts off Ku. Skulk with a double chicken wing lungblower combo to Dom and Ku barely saves the pin. Dom eats a roaring clothesline. Ku with a buzz saw kick. Gray tries an enziguri but Dom powerbombs him. DOm with a cloverleaf but Alanis powerbombs Ku into his partner to break it. Both teams just slugging it out until ViF drops the Skulk. They want Chasing the Dragon again but Alanis cuts it off again. Ku hit with a suplex crossbody combo but Dom pulls him out of danger. Ku getting mugged with Dom exhausted on the apron. Skulk wants another double team but Dom pops up with a flying knee to Alanis. Gray is sent packing and ViF hit Chasing the Dragon on Alanis for the pin.
Winners: Violence is Forever
Well, THAT ruled. Violence is Forever is easily one of my favorite tag teams of the last few years but the Skulk. Wow. They leveled WAAAAAAAAY up in this match, almost beating ViF as a cohesive tandem in the early goings and really testing the 2–time IWTV Tag Team of the Year. Chemistry was on fire here. Did ViF just do for the Skulk what the Workhorsemen did for them? Hard to tell so I guess we’ll just have to run this back and find out. Run. This. Back. :)
Main Event: “The Mack of All Trades” AC Mack vs Alan “5” Angels (w/ Robin Renegade)
So AC Mack might have successfully defended his Action Championship last month but Alan Angels used that moment to ambush Mack, setting up Royal’s victory under a no-DQ stipulation. Mack on the mic, saying he knows Angels was jealous of his success but he went to greener pastures....so why did Angels need to come back, ruin their friendship and take what was his? Angels is out with his new enforcer, Robin Renegade....to make sure there’s no cheating. Mack charges at the bell and Angels gets out of there immediately. Angels back for the lockup but decides to take another walk when Mack puts him right in the corner. Angels back for a roll up crucifix pin for two. Springboard arm drag from Angels and he is celebrating his triumph right into an AC Mack leg lariat. Mack laying in the stomps, he doesn’t want a pin here....well, not yet. Angels takes another walk but Mack is done with THAT bs. Angels sent back out but Renegade gets up on the apron to distract, allowing Alan to sneak in the back door and lay out Mack. Mack with desperate kicks from the ground but Angels is stomping and locks up a front choke and drops knees to the head. Mack up but walks into a belly-to-belly snap suplex for two. Mack with a jumping lariat creates space to breath, sending Angels running for cover again. Mack dives after him. Angels back in but eats a dropkick to the bottom buckle. Angels is super groggy as Mack is setting up the Mack-10. Angels reverses out and lands a series of body kicks. Spanish fly for two! Mack back up but eats a leg larait. Angels comes running but Mack sees it coming and dodges, causing Angels’ head to bounce off the mat. He’s gone limp and the ref is pushing Mack away, who wants to finish this fight with a pinfall. Refs, Robin Renegade and medics swarm the ring while Mack is held back in the corner. Crowd is dead silent while Angels gets back to a sitting position. Mack looks concerned as his friend slowly works back to hi.....Angels pops up and hits a shotgun dropkick to Mack in the opposite corner. Angels with pin and the ref counts it down.
Winners: Alan Angels
Alan Angels is SO DAMN PROUD of himself for getting that pin. Action owner Matt Griffin is apologetic but Mack is furious. He wants Angels next month, last man standing. Matt makes the pledge, Mack will get another shot at redemption against his former best friend. Great action here bell to bell. They worked the hell out of that finish, the crowd CLEARLY in the moment and concerned until Angels did the bad thing. I‘ve seen this ruse before and when done right, it takes a lot of time before you earn the crowd’s love back. We’ll see how much heat he has next month when it’s Last Man Standing.
And that’s it for “You Can’t Do That in a Wrestling Ring”! Solid 2 hours of action from Action. The first half was devoted to showcasing newer talent and I think that was overall successful. The second half we got into some story telling and BIG fight feel. That ViF/Skulk match was the MOTN so far but Edwards/Kane was also a great time. I’ve heard the second show was wild so looking forward to “Royal vs Sells II” hitting IWTV asap and getting to see how the rest of the night progressed in Tyrone, GA. Until then!
