Excalibur and Taz welcome us to a “massive” episode of AEW Dark, and we’re told Brian Cage will in fact defend the FTW Title. Oh, that’s cool. Against Brandon Cutler. Oh.
Chaos Project are still under .500, and their opponents are the Recruitment Specialists, John Silver and Alex Reynolds. -1 is staying on the stage. And Youtube just tried to show me a 16 minute commercial. Reynolds gets the brunt of Chaos Project’s offense before making a tag. Chaos Project continue their double team shenanigans on Silver, until Reynolds blocks the Creeping Death. Dark Destroyer on Serpentico gets the Dark Order the win.
Alex Marvez is in the back with SCU. SCU are ranked #1 in the Tag division. CD doesn’t care about the buzz that Pac and Fenix have. Kazarian says CD has been his partner for 10 years and best friend for 20. How hard will they work to keep the team together? I don’t know, because it sure feels like we’re working towards SCU finally getting a title shot and Frankie turning on CD when they lose.
SCU are taking on Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs. Taz bemoans a few of the “rookie mistakes” Nelson and Isaacs make after they secure an advantage. A Best Moonsault Ever gives the SCU the win.
Penelope Ford vs. Miranda Alize is up next. A nasty double knees to the outside, gourd buster, and fisherman’s buster get the pinfall for Penelope Ford.
Ricky Starks joins commentary as Gunn Club takes on Baron Black, Jake St. Patrick, and Adam Priest. Ricky Starks and Excalibur are talking about steak knives. 3:10 to Yuma on St. Patrick gets the Gunn Club the pin.
Jack Evans is facing off with Dante Martin. Taz talks about wanting to beat up a high dude at a Jack Johnson concert. It feels a little gimmick-killing to know Taz went to a Jack Johnson concert. Dante Martin gets the win with a 450 splash. Angelico comes out and attacks Dante, which brings the injured Darius Martin out to save his brother.
Taz is saying it’s time for the main event, Brian Cage vs Brandon Cutler. There’s 40 something minutes left in the video… and the title of the video said 14 matches, so maybe not a main event. Brian Cage gets the win with the Drill Claw, but they’re sowing some seeds of dissension between Cage and the rest of Team Taz.
Ashley Vox takes on Alex Gracia as someone will get their first win in AEW. Vox gets the win with the Fish Hook submission.
Sonny Kiss and Joey Janela team up again to take on Seth Gargis and Vary Morales. Kiss and Janela are also under .500 as a tag team, and Janela showed some frustration last week. A reverse DDT and split legdrop get Kiss and Janela get back on the winning column.
JD Drake, accompanied by Ryan Nemeth, faces off with Fuego del Sol. Another match with someone getting their first win. Anthony Ogogo shows up on commentary, but no one from the Nightmare Family in the ring. Drake blocks the sliced bread and connects with the running boot to pick up his first win as the commentary team wonder how Drake and Nemeth got connected.
The newly signed Shawn Dean is taking on QT Marshall. Dean is looking for his first win, as QT is undefeated in singles action this year. Marshall hits a diamond cutter to counter Shawn Dean’s aerial attack and get the three count.
The Bunny is joined by The Butcher and The Blade takes on Jazmin Allure. First match for Bunny in quite a few weeks. The Bunny shows no ring rust as she pins Allure after Down the Rabbit Hole.
Carlie Bravo, Dean Alexander, and Brick Aldridge get an entrance with the AEW Dark theme, wearing their Nightmare Factory gear. Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, and Colt Cabana are representing Dark Order tonight. -1 stays ringside. Dark Order focus their energies on Alexander and Bravo to begin with. Aldridge is able to use his size advantage briefly, but Fatality finishes off Bravo to get Dark Order the win. -1 hits the kip up where Joey Janela fails earlier in the night.
Aaron Solow and Nick Comoroto team up, repping the Nightmare Factory, to face D3 and Angel Fashion. Anthony Ogogo is back. Quick work as Solow hits a pedigree variation on Fashion and gets the three.
Cezar Bononi gets to face John Skyler as he pulls Peter Avalon out on the love sled. Bononi hits a modified death valley driver to get the quick win. But not as quick as the previous Skyler matches have been.
And that’s it. Dark’s over. Kind of out of nowhere. I guess the main event was in the middle of the show.
