Northeast Wrestling “NEW Studio Wars: Episode 11”
3/23/21
Available Now at www.HighspotsWrestlingNetwork.com
Last week on Studio Wars, NEW Live Champion Big Bacon Brad Hollister successfully made his first defense against a VERY game American Sumo Mike Gamble. Who steps up next? One thing we’ve been promised for this week is the return of NEW Heavyweight Champion Dan Maff. Paul Crockett & Jon Roy are on commentary.
Match 1: Wrecking Ball Legursky vs J. Heru
Speaking of NEW Heavyweights, here’s the former NEW champ back this week after a definitive win over Mucho Chris Moljo last episode. Heru didn’t get an entrance. This bodes well for him. Heru says Legursky should kick his boots. Ahahahahaha. Wrecking Ball knocks him down. Heru hits a series of dropkicks with little effect. Legursky swats him out of the air, big elbow drop for two. Heru comes running into a boss man slam and Legursky drags him to the corner for a Vader Bomb and the pinfall.
Winner: Wrecking Ball Legursky
Statement made. The Wrecking Ball is coming for someone this month.
Match 2: “Top Notch” Tony Vega (w/ Nikii Duke) vs Teddy Goodz
Longtime New England indie vet Teddy Goodz makes his Studio Wars debut tonight. Vega is all confidence as he drop toe holds Goodz, walks over his back and relaxes on the top rope. Goodz drags him to the mat and works the arm. Cradle pin for two. Vega tries to arm drag out but Goodz keeps him locked up. Goodz with a running knee, Nikii grabs the leg on the follow up, Vega with a back suplex while he’s distracted. Vega with stomps and strikes and whips Goodz around the ring. Vega gets him down on the ropes, Duke with a slap to the face. Vega with a suplex but only gets a one count. Vega with a powerslam for two. Vega confident but Goodz dodges a running senton and gets a chance to his breath. Goodz with a running elbows and straight jacket tosses Vega from the second rope. Goodz comes running and Vega catches him with a flatliner for the pin.
Winner: Tony Vega
Vega’s level of opponent just picked up this week. Good back and forth match from him and Goodz, who looked good in defeat here. Vega cuts a promo in the back immediately after where they promise a surprise for next week. Oh ho?
Match 3: The Brick City Boyz (J. Cruz & Victor Chase) vs Maine State Posse (Aggro & Dangerkid)
MSP! Dangerkid and Cruz have a little taunt battle before the lock up. BCB immediately start working double teams. Chase hits a step up enziguri and Cruz with a northern lights for two. Dangerkid gets the tag to Aggro and the MSP has their confidence back. Cruz locked up in the corner to eat seem loud chops and a backpack senton. Chase cuts off the pin. Cruz bottles hit way out of trouble and germans Dangerkid. Cruz kicks off and gets the tag to Victor Chase. Chase with a Michanoku driver for two on DK. Aggro with the blind side, flurry of double teams. Backcracker/senton combo in the corner and Chase is down for the count.
Winner: Maine State Posse
MSP is displaying a little heelish confidence on Studio Wars. They’ve definitely put their name in the hat for a shot at the NEW tag belts, currently held by Inzanely Rude. Another good sprint of a match here. Brick City Boyz had a solid open but once the very experienced MSP took flight, they were a buzz saw of big moves.
Match 4: “The Prize” Alec Price vs Gio Galvano
Price comes in hot and rushes Galvano with strikes. Gio with a flying crossbody reversal and a vertical suplex. Springboard legdrop for two. Gio wants to once off the top but Price sweeps him off there and hits a tornado DDT for two. Price with a suplex and stays on him, corners chops and a dropkick to the neck for two. Price runs his mouth and gets punched in it. Price with a running blockbuster but he’s screaming frustration as Gio kicks out again. Raining punches and missing a shining wizard. Gio with a series of kicks and a powerslam for two. Running forearms and hits a bulldog off the top for three.
Winner: Gio Galvano
Gio is one of NEW’s best kept secrets right now. Solid worker that has a great match with everyone (see his debut against Wrecking Ball Legursky, for example). I haven’t seen Price work in over a year and he was good then, he’s still good now but but seems to have gone a little feral in the quarantimes. Loved the energy in this one.
We get a Waves & Curls promo, saying they have Inzanely Rude firmly in their sites.
Match 5: “Man of Steel” Mike Verna vs Dinomite
Dinomite doesn’t get an entrance but clearly doesn’t want to get the J. Heru treament. He ambushes Verna on the top. Big German from Dinomite. Verna powers through with running uppercut and a powerslam for two. Fireman’s carry side slam from the man of steel for the pin.
Winner: Mike Verna
Dinomite didn’t want to get squashed....but that was the plan. Verna grabs the mic and calls out Brad Hollister. He says his friend Brad seems to have changed. Verna is the #1 contender for the NEW LIVE title....and he plans to remind Hollister just who he is supposed to be. Nice. Looking forward to THIS.
We get a highlight reel of NEW’s Prison Break show in 2019. It’s available on the High Spots network. The main event was Jon Moxley vs Penta El Zero M but the REAL highlight is seeing Jared Silberkleit getting chokeslammed by Big Cass.
Match 6: Moshpit vs Zachariah Gibbs
Moshpit has been a mainstay on Studio Wars’ midcard right along. Gibbs’ gimmick is an Amish guy with a butter churn who isn’t Levi Everett. The bell rings as NEW Heavyweight champion Dan Maff hits the rings and destroys them both. Maff clears the ring as Jon Roy hits the rings to interview him and find out what he wants. Maff attacks Jon Roy as the bell rings over and over. Paul Crockett calls for help while Maff hits a burning hammer on Jon Roy, standing over him with the NEW championship.
Winner: No Contest
Dan Maff screams into the camera that the entire locker room is on notice. Everyone clears the arena except for Paul Crockett, who makes the bewildering mistake of locking eyes with the champ from the commentary table. Maff, full of rage and not yet full on carnage, storms the commentary station to get right in Paul’s face. Paul immediately cowers in fear as the NEW champion angrily tells him not to p*ss him off but that he likes him, this is his happy face and to have a nice day. An intense moment, well shot and capturing the panic on Crockett’s face as Maff just ratcheted up the tension further and further. No one was brave enough to save the crew so who might step up to the champ in the weeks to come? I can’t put over enough how much I liked how this all went down.
And that’s it for Episode 11! NEW has been taping in 5-episode chunks so this was a great start to this round of storytelling. Some potential new challengers have established themselves as all three NEW titles are finally in play for the next several weeks. Dan Maff made a HUGE SPLASH in the final minutes of the show. I am very excited for the next few episodes to come from all this building. Next week, Mike Verna gets his shot against Brad Hollister for the NEW LIVE championship. Until then!
