Young Rock Episode 5  - “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”

The Straight Line - On The Road with Randall Park 

The episode opens at the Johnson campaign headquarters. Park & Rock are sitting down for an interview and Park messes up but doesn’t realize they’re live. Johnson is getting ready to announce his VP candidate and he made his choice because of something he learned back in high school when he punched out a student.

Ata is at “Jazzercise” class when the school calls to tell her Dewey is in trouble for fighting. The principal is surprised that Dwayne is in trouble because he still believed he was an undercover cop. “I was going to invite him to an Eagles game” Dwayne gets suspended.  All is not lost as Gabe gives him a note from Fine Ass Karen. She was impressed by the knockout and wants another date.

Ata takes Dewey home on the bus, he gets upset and gets off. She gets home and calls Junkyard Dog looking for Rocky, he doesn’t know where he is but conference calls in Afa, Sika, Macho Man and Andre and they tell her to put Dewey in his place. 

Gabe and Dwayne go to the mall looking for a gift for Karen. Ata finds him at Zales and tells him that she is the law and he’s grounded for two months. Dewey says he doesn’t think that’s fair and Ata let’s him know “IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK”! And if he’s going to be buying any earrings at Zales they better be for her as an apology gift.

Ata takes Dewey to the house she cleans and is making him do all the work. Diane shows Ata her purse collection while Dewey mops.

Ata and Dewey go to Kevin’s house to apologize for hitting him. The parents accept the apology but Kevin whispers to Dwayne that his father prayed that his soul would face eternal damnation for hitting him. 

Dwayne and Gabe are working at the pizza place and they discuss the expensive gifts they plan on giving their dates. Back at home Ata finds Dewey’s bag of stolen clothes and a purse from Diane’s house.

Ata goes over and gets caught trying to put the purse back. Diane gives her a pep talk and says she thinks she’s a good person and that Dewey is probably just going through a bad kid phase.  Back at home,she confronts Dewey for shoplifting. He admits that he’s upset that he can’t fit in because they’re not rich. She explains life is hard and that he can’t make it harder by being a bad kid. She tells Dewey to donate the stolen clothes.

Rocky calls to check in, she explains to him what was happening at home. Rocky says the convention was great but she overhears him getting invited to the bar and hangs up on him. Dwayne decides to stay home and have dinner with Ata and stand up Karen on their double date. 

We’re back to Rock and Randall and he says he’s going to pick a VP who has the same character his mother exhibits. They bring the real Ata into the conversation and she calls him Dewey and that even if he’s President she’ll call him President Dewey. 

She believes he could win because he does everything he says he will do. “And you will smell what President Dewey is cookin’”
