Christian Cage spoke with Sports Illustrated about joining AEW. Cage said that he and WWE had "cordial talks" about a contract but he wasn't sure where they were creatively in terms of how he would be used. Jon Moxley told him that as a free agent, he should at least speak with Tony Khan, who Cage had met socially before AEW was formed.
“When I left in 2005, I was kind of pigeonholed into a certain spot, and that wasn’t going to change unless I changed it myself,” Cage said. “So I bet on myself. I knew that I had the talent and I was confident in my ability. I wasn’t content with where I was at, and I knew I had more to give. I’m not expecting to walk in and work the main event with Kenny Omega, I have some work to do and I need to prove myself. And looking at the layout of the roster, there are athletes with so much talent—like Darby Allin, who makes me think of Jeff Hardy, or MJF, who is just so talented. The sky is the limit here with a blank canvas. When I left in 2005, I was kind of pigeonholed into a certain spot, and that wasn’t going to change unless I changed it myself. So I bet on myself. I knew that I had the talent and I was confident in my ability. I wasn’t content with where I was at, and I knew I had more to give.”
Paul Wight is on the latest edition of Chris Jericho's podcast and noted that it only took he and Tony Khan 15 minutes to put together Wight's AEW deal. Wight noted he wasn't bitter over the end of his WWE run but noted how sad he found it that when he was 500 lbs. and smoked two packs of cigarettes, he was World Champion but once he got in shape and had abs, he couldn't get a match or storyline. He noted WWE offered him a Legends deal but he didn't want to be "Sgt. Slaughter" and wasn't happy with his last appearance. He said the real moment where he knew things in WWE would never change for him again was about five years ago when he was told by a top executive that he would never headline a PPV or main event a Wrestlemania again as they were going t focus on younger talents. He stated that he was scheduled to win the first Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in 2014 but at the last second, they changed to Cesaro and he did everything he could to get Cesaro over, but then they did nothing with Cesaro. He said that he felt he was always hitting a ceiling where they would get him to a point and then it fell apart again. He said WWE was like a shark tank politically and he wasn't prepared for that when he arrived there. He said he's already had ideas for eventual matches with Darby Allin, Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and more.
AEW Dark was removed from YouTube overnight. It appears the issue may have been that 10 was busted open hardway in the mouth during his match. The episode is already back up:
MJF's group is expected to be given a name this week on Dynamite.
