CHARLOTTE FLAIR TO STAR IN REMAKE OF 'WALKING TALL'

By Mike Johnson & Paul Jordan on 2021-03-15 16:07:00

Charlotte Flair is attached to star in a remake of Walking Tall for The USA Network, Deadline Hollywood reported this afternoon.

The adaptation would be based on the 1973 film, which was based (with creative license) on the life of Tennessee sheriff Buford Pusser, who also worked as a professional wrestler.  In the original film, Pusser, played by Joe Don Baker, violently goes after a group of thugs who attacked him and his wife.

The Rock starred in a re-imagined version film back in 2004, although he did not play Pusser, but another character based on Pusset named Chris Vaughn.  In that version, he played a returning United States serviceman who fights corruption in his hometown.  The film brought in $57,223,890 worldwide.

This Walking Tall incarnation would feature Flair playing a Tucson cop  "who finds herself caught in a web of fraud, exploitation and murder, and is forced to go full vigilante to protect her home town from falling victim to modern corruption."  The hope is that the initial two-hour film could set up additional sequels or even a TV series down the line.

Flair has appeared in the USA Network film Psych The Movie and recently appeared as herself in an episode of Peacock streaming series Punky Brewster.

There is no word when the film would begin production. It would be Flair's first starring role.

WWE Studios is involved as a producer.
