New Japan Cup 2021 Round 2 Match: Great O-Khan vs. Toru Yano. O-Khan dares Yano to tie his hands behind his back. Yano gladly does so and tapes O-Khan's hands behind his back. Yano goes to rip off the turnbuckles. Yano tries to hit O-Khan with the turnbuckle, but O-Khan ducks. O-Khan rips the tape from his hands using his strength. Yano freaks out and escapes the ring. Yano screams in pain and crawls to the ropes. Yano escapes the ring, telling O-Khan to calm down. O-Khan is yelling at him to come fight. O-Khan gets a chair and sits in the ring. Yano gets a chair and sits in the entryway. The referee begins the countout. O-Khan is trembling with anger. He demands that the young lion, Gabriel Kidd, working at ringside, give him something from the announcer's table. Kidd gives O-Khan the KOPW Trophy. He threatens to destroy the Trophy. Yano gets upset and comes back into the ring. O-Khan gives the Trophy to the referee and claps for Yano returning to the ring. O-Khan extends his hand for a handshake. Yano is reluctant. Yano goes for the shake but O-Khan squeezes his hand and Yano falls to the mat. O-Khan stomps on his arm and picks up Yano for a gutwrench over-the-head suplex. Crazy strength by O-Khan. O-Khan locks in a head-arm neck vice. Yano makes it to the ropes. Yano starts to rally using amateur takedowns and a belly-to-belly suplex. He sends O-Khan headfirst into the metal bolt in the turnbuckle. O-Khan counters with a boot to face then applies the Iron Claw. O-Khan is realizes that he just cut his own hair from a braid that took years to grow. Yano sees his anger and starts to retreat. O-Khan goes to stab him with the scissors but Yano counters with a low blow and chop block to the knee. He rolls up O-Khan to get the pin and win.
Toru Yano moves on to the face the winner of Jeff Cobb and EVIL.
O-Khan untied his braid of hair to the guardrail and grabbed his scissors and went back to the locker room.
Yano matches are always entertaining. This one was no different. However, I think this loss hurts O-Khan. O-Khan pinned Tetsuya Naito in Round 1, then lost to Yano. As team, United Empire does well, but in single matches, they do come up short, when it is supposed to matter. O-Khan is fairly young and probably has many New Japan Cups to come. However, getting embarrassed by Yano does not help his image. If O-Khan does not look for revenge on Yano, storyline-wise, then this match will definitely hurt O-Khan.
New Japan Cup 2021 Round 2 Match: Jeff Cobb vs. EVIL, with Dick Togo. The camera catches Yujiro Takahashi at ringside for commentary.
EVIL and Togo used typical Bullet Club tricks to get an early advantage in the match. Cobb changed the momentum with an over-the-head belly-to-belly suplex. Cobb then dead-lifted EVIL from the ring apron into a supersuplex from the second rope. Wow! Both men traded lariats. EVIL locked in the Scorpion Death Lock. Cobb powers his way to the ropes. EVIL hits Darkness Falls for a two count. Cobb reverses out of Everything is Evil and superkicks EVIL. Cobb with a running powerslam for a two count. Cobb avoids a choke by Togo, then plants EVIL with a release german suplex and a standing moonsault. Only a two count. Cobb hits a swinging back suplex but EVIL grabs the referee who flies out of the ring. Cobb blocks a low blow by EVIL and hits a flying European Uppercut. Togo tries again to choke out Cobb but blocks him. Cobb lifts BOTH Togo and EVIL on his shoulders and hits a powerslam on both of them. DAMN! Cobb tosses Togo from the ring and drags the referee back in. Cobb with a gutwrench sit-down powerbomb on EVIL. Two count only. EVIL hits a lariat. EVIL attempts Everything is Evil again, but Cobb reverses into another german suplex. EVIL escapes a Tour of the Islands and sends Cobb into the turnbuckle. EVIL misses a lariat and goes chest first into the turnbuckle. Yujiro Takahashi jumps on the ring apron, distracting the referee. Cobb goes for Tour of the Islands but EVIL reverses and hits a low blow. EVIL hits Everything is Evil. EVIL pins Cobb.
EVIL moves on in the New Japan Cup to face Toru Yano.
Another disappointing loss for the United Empire. Fine match. EVIL depends too much on outside interference. When you compare Bullet Club members, Jay White, despite having Gedo, can get wins on his own. Interference in Bullet Club matches is normal, however, EVIL and Cobb could have had a great match without the shenanigans.
The New Japan Cup 2021 continues on 3/13/21 with these Round 2 match-ups:
Hirooki Goto vs. Shingo Takagi
