ROH TV REPORT

By Anthony Pires on 2021-03-07 10:24:00

Big week with 19th Anniversary Main Event implications on tonight's ROH TV.  Quinn McKay welcomes us to tonight's show.  She seriously needs and deserves a higher profile in the company. We get shown highlights of Rush's title defense last week against Shane Taylor.  Kenny King asks Shane Taylor if he really thought he was going to betray his true family. La Faccion Ingobernoble.  Rush joins him with La Bestia and have a few unkind words for any future challengers. Quinn talks about the ROH Rankings.  The Pure Division is as follows:

Champion: Jonathan Gresham

1.  Josh Woods

2.  Dak Draper

3.  Rhett Titus

4.  Wheeler Yuta

5.  Fred Yehi

Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman have the call tonight.

We get introduced to Josh Woods.  The kid has got a great dumb-jock-yet-innocent way about him.  He's recently beaten 3 former world champions (Castle, Jay Briscoe and Jay Lethal).  He wants that Pure Championship.  And now the former World Champion Dalton Castle has a few words for us.  He's definitely walking a harder edge as he talks about his struggles over the last few years.  He drops a cryptic line about other things going on in his life.  He flat out says he doesn't deserve to be in Ring of Honor if he loses here today.

Pure Rules Match: Josh Woods vs. Dalton Castle

Code of Honor adhered to.  The two engage in amateur grappling, Castle rides him but Woods quickly reverses and grabs a side headlock.  Castle with a waistlock, Woods reverses it into a hammerlock.  Drop down trip by Woods and we get more grappling.  Woods ends up on top for a 1 count and slips into a double wristlock.  Shoot off by Castle and Woods trips him again and immediately applies the Gorilla Lock.  Woods needs to use his first rope break.  The action spills to the outside and Castle rams Woods into the barricade as we go to commercial.

We're back at the 7:30 mark (non title singles Pure matches have a 15:00 time limit).  Castle with a go behind but Woods with a back elbow and picks up the pace with a series of running forearms.  2 count by Woods.  Snap mare into the Gorilla Lock and Castle has to use his 2nd rope break.  Woods with a kick and they exchange open hand palm strikes.  Woods goes for a crade but Castle reverses into the setup for the Bang a Rang.  Woods blocks it but Castle transitions into a sit down victory roll for 2.  Castle feigns a back injury and then rolls Woods up in a small package for the pin.

WINNER: Dalton Castle

Castle walks of without a Code of Honor.  Silas Young, looking dapper in a custom suit, comes out with mic in hand. Josh asks him where he's been.  Young reminds him that he lost after telling him he wanted to go on his own. Silas implies that Woods' career has taken a nosedive since the backstage split.  Silas reminds him that needs mentoring and tells him they need to re form the 2 Guys 1 Tag team.  Silas walks off and Woods is left in the ring with a quizzical look.

Maria Kanellis-Bennett joins the commentary booth for tonight's main event.

Four Corners Survival Match- Winner Main Events 19th Anniversary vs Rush for the ROH World Championship: ECIII vs. Jay Lethal vs. Matt Taven vs. Jay Briscoe

Lucha Rules in that only 2 men are in the ring at one time.  However, if anyone leaves the ring, someone on the outside can automatically enter.

All four get excellent promo introductions upon their entrances.  Good luck to referee Todd Sinclar in keeping up with this. Code of Honor adhered to by everyone EXCEPT for when it's Briscoe's turn to shake EC3's hand.  Briscoe and EC3 brawl and it quickly tumbles to the outside, bringing in Lethal and Taven.  Hiptoss dropkick combo by Lethal for a 1 count.  Taven averts Lethal's clothesline and nails a dropkick.  Lethal rolls out to escape, Taven follows him.  Briscoe with a double clothesline to Lethal and Taven.  EC3 suplexes Briscoe back in, making them the legal men.  Brisscoe gets suplexed from the apron by Lethal, making Lethal legally in the match.  EC3 nails him with a big Clothesline, spinning him end over end.  EC3 oozes star power in ROH.  How the heck did the E mess him up so bad? Lethal clears the ring with a duck underneath of another clothesline and Taven immediately makes himself eligible and clotheslines Lethal out.  Taven nails EC3 and Lethal with the Flight of the Conqueror.  Briscoe comes in and nails a snap suplex on Taven as we go to commercial.

We are back and Taven and Briscoe remain the eligible men.  Briscoe scores a 2 count.  Taven rolls through a neckbreaker attempt but Briscoe tosses him over the top.  EC3 with a spear and Briscoe covers up from ground and pound.  Briscoe counters with a headbutt.  EC3 and Briscoe exchange forearms.  All four men now in the ring brawling and get laid out.  EC3 rolls out but Taven goes to the top but Lethal punches him.  He goes for a superplex but Briscoe shoves him away.  Lethal and Briscoe argue and go for a double superplex but EC3 with the Tower of Doom power bomb.  EC3 grabs Briscoe and screams for Lethal to kick him in the face.  Instead, Lethal fires away at EC3 and applies the Figure 4 for Briscoe. EC3 breaks it up by powerbombing Taven onto Lethal.  We go to commercial.

EC3 and Lethal are the eligible men when we return but Briscoe attacks him and they brawl all the way to the back.  Vita Von Starr makes her way to the ring, obviously to distract Taven. Taven with a DDT and he finally notices her.  Springboard dropkick by Taven followed by a knee strike for 2.  Taven goes for the Climax but Von Starr keeps rolling in and out of the ring, causing the distraction.  Lethal with a cuter.  Lethal with a Lethal Injection for the pin as Von Starr cheerily dances to the back.

WINNER: Jay Lethal (will challenge Rush for the ROH World Title at 19th Anniversary)

Code of Honor adhered to as we go to credits
