Taz, Excalibur, and Anthony Ogogo welcome us to a “pivotal” episode of AEW Dark.
Cezar Bononi pulls Peter Avalon out on a heart-shaped sled. Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall come to the ring accompanied by Nick Comoroto. So it’s Natural Nightmares vs. The Pretty Picture, which is what Wikipedia lists as the team name for Bononi and Avalon. Ogogo spends most of the match slurping on the Nightmare Factory, which is honestly beyond the annoying point the last few weeks. It’s the opposite of how a heel commentator like Jesse Ventura would constantly drag on someone like Hulk Hogan, as a supposedly babyface commentator is over-praising certain people. It continues my theory that the members of this Nightmare Family group which is almost 20 deep at this point don’t understand that they’re actually heels with how they are presented. Dustin pins Avalon after a bulldog.
Chuck Taylor defeats JD Drake with a not great looking Awful Waffle. Penelope Ford comes out and distracts Orange Cassidy for Kip Sabian. Miro grabs a mic and claims he should be the world champ, but he has to waste his time teaching Charles a lesson.
Penta El Cero Miedo is back from his injury as he takes on longtime Northeast indie talent, Azriel. It takes five seconds for Ogogo to say something positive about Cody Rhodes before the ladder match at the pay per view. After a Destroyer, Penta snaps the arm of Azriel, which leads to a pinfall. Shouldn’t snapping the arm feed into a submission?
Commercial for Scorpio Sky’s podcast gives a moment to catch up on typing and go back and edit my rant about the Nightmare Family.
Big Swole has a mic and claims she’s undervalued, not underutilized. Saying she crawled to the top of the women’s rankings, but was met with a women’s eliminator tournament, so she took some time off. Wait, what? She’s happy for Ryo, but whoever wins is in debt to Swole. She says, payment is due, and the payment will be gold. Not gonna lie: this felt heelish.
Lance Archer has John Skyler as a sacrificial lamb tonight. And it is honestly longer than I expected it to be, given Skyler’s previous few matches on Dark. Black Out and the win for Archer. Jake Roberts talks about the ladder match, and how he wants to hurt Cody Rhodes. Archer claims the TNT title was always supposed to be his, and he’s gunning for Rhodes during the match. But in the end, everybody dies.
Ricky Starks and Brian Cage have Fuego del Sol and Angel Fashion waiting for them in the ring. Hook is staying ringside. A little longer than their previous matches on Dark, but Starks spears Fuego out of the ring and Cage with the Drill Claw on Fashion for the win.
Jack Evans is taking on Jake St. Patrick. Excalibur mentions that Matt Hardy has paid off Evans to the excess of ten grand to do his dirty work in recent weeks. Jack Evans gets the win after a 630 senton.
We go to The Acclaimed’s latest music video about the Ladder Match. On the latest Unrestricted podcast, Tony Khan mentioned that Bowens is dealing with a knee injury.
Austin and Colten Gunn defeat D3 and M’Badu after 3:10 to Yuma. Wait, Colten’s the older brother? I did not realize that.
Tesha Price gets an entrance as she takes on Thunder Rosa. Thunder Rosa gets the win.
Bear Country is taking on Cameron Stewart and Ryzin. Bear Country Jamboree on both men is enough for the win. The Bunny shows up on the stage, and Butcher and the Blade come from behind with steel chairs, wearing their big show white gear.
5 and 10 from the Dark Order are taking on Vary Morales and Labron Kozone. -1 is staying on the stage. As much as I’m not a fan of a child being involved in wrestling, no matter how noble they think the reason is, I’m way less a fan that they’re saying the child is the leader of the faction. Wing Snapper by 5 into the lariat to the back from 10 gives the Dark Order duo the win.
Tay Conti is out with -1 as Conti takes on Leila Grey, making her AEW debut. Hammerlock DDT gets the win for Conti.
Ahead of the Tag Team Casino Royale, Chaos Project face the Sydal Brothers. The Sydals are 0-3 to start their AEW tag career, which is a little surprising. I’ve come to enjoy the dynamic of Luther constantly using Serpentico as a reluctant weapon. Double Lightning Spiral gives the Sydal Brothers their first tag team win.
