NJPW ANNOUNCES MAY RETURN TO TOKYO DOME FOR WRESTLE GRAND SLAM AND TONS MORE FROM JAPAN

New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling will return to the Tokyo Dome for the third time in 2021 for its Wrestle Grand Slam show on May 29.

Wrestle Grand Slam will be a two-night event but not held on consecutive nights. The first show will be held on May 15 in Yokohama Stadium – the first time New Japan has held a show in the venue.

The last time New Japan held a show in the Tokyo Dome outside of January was October 2005. The show was headlined by Brock Lesnar winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in a three-way match including Kazuyuki Fujita and Masahiro Chono.

The news was announced during today’s forty-ninth Anniversary Event in the Nippon Budokan. The full results from the show were:

• Gabriel Kidd, Hirooki Goto, Master Wato and Tomoaki Honma def. DOUKI, Minoru Suzuki, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr.
• Chase Owens, EVIL, Jay White, KENTA and Taiji Ishimori def. David Finlay, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Juice Robinson, Ryusuke Taguchi and Toa Henare
• Kazuchika Okada, SHO and Tomohiro Ishii def. BUSHI, SANADA and Shingo Takagi
• First round match (top left bracket): Jeff Cobb def. Satoshi Kojima
• First round match (top left bracket): Great-O-Khan def. Tetsuya Naito
• IWGP Heavyweight Championship and IWGP Intercontinental Championship: Kota Ibushi (c) vs. El Desperado

Jeff Cobb defeated Satoshi Kojima in their New Japan Cup first round match. He will face EVIL (who received a bye as the winner of last year’s tournament) in the second round.

Great-O-Khan defeated Tetsuya Naito in their New Japan Cup first round match – a major upset. He will face the winner of Bad Luck Fale versus Toru Yano in the second round.

Kota Ibushi made his third defense of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and fourth defense of the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against El Desperado. It will be the final match for both titles.

Dragon Gate

Dragon Gate held its third Glorious Gate 2021 tour show today in Korakuen Hall.

The full results were:

• Genki Horiguchi, Kzy, Susumu Yokosuka and U-T def. Don Fujii, Gamma, Shuji Kondo and Yosuke Santa Maria
• Diamante and KAZMA SAKAMOTO def. Bokutimo Dragon and Ultimo Dragon
• Kenichiro Arai and Yasushi Kanda def. Ben-K and Keisuke Okuda, BxB Hulk and H.Y.O & Masaaki Mochizuki and Takashi Yoshida
• Jason Lee, Kagetora, Kota Minoura and Shun Skywalker def. Dia Inferno, Eita, HipHop Kikuta and Kaito Ishida
• SB KENTo def. Dragon Kid
• YAMATO def. KAI

Ben-K, Dragon Kid, Keisuke Okuda and YAMATO’s new unit is called High End.

Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS

Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS held a show in Shin-Kiba 1st Ring today.

The full results were:

• Alejandro and Kenji Fukimoto def. Dragon Libre and Tomoya Hirata
• Takashi Sasaki def. Rekka
• Kengo and Yuya Susumu vs. Mammoth Sasaki and Violento Jack – No Contest
• Brahman Kei, GENTARO and Tatsuhito Takaiwa def. Kamui, Minoru Fujita and Rina Yamashita
• Masashi Takeda, Takayuki Ueki and Toshiyuki Sakuda def. Daisuke Masaoka, Jun Kasai and Toru Sugiura

Violento Jack betrayed Mammoth Sasaki during the second match and later joined Empire Ruler Ends. He is the fourth member of the group alongside Masashi Takeda, Takayuki Ueki and Toshiyuki Sakuda.

Ueki pinned Toru Sugiura in the main event ahead of their King Of FREEDOM World Championship match on March 23 in Korakuen Hall.

GENTARO and Tatsuhito Takaiwa will challenge Minoru Fujita and Rina Yamashita for the King Of FREEDOM Tag Team Championships on March 23 while Brahman Kei will challenge Kamui for the UWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Big Japan Pro Wrestling

Big Japan Pro Wrestling has announced the full card for its show on March 27 in Osaka.

The full card is:

• Akira Hyodo and Kankuro Hoshino vs. Drew Parker and Kazuki Hashimoto
• Abdullah Kobayashi and Yuichi Taniguchi vs. Daichi Hashimoto and Hideyoshi Kamitani
• Hiroaki Taniguchi and Yasufumi Nakanoue vs. Takuho Kato and Takuya Nomura
• Billy Ken Kid, HUB and Tsubasa vs. Daisuke Sekimoto, Kota Sekifuda and Yuya Aoki
• Kazumi Kikuta and Yuki Ishikawa vs. Ryuji Ito and Yuji Okabayashi
• Ikkitousen Deathmatch Survivor A block: Jaki Numazawa vs. Violento Jack
• Ikkitousen Deathmatch Survivor B block: Shunma Katsumata vs. Yuko Miyamoto

Big Japan also announced the Ikkitousen Deathmatch Survivor semifinals and final will be held on May 16 in Korakuen Hall. The A block winner will face the B block winner meaning the C block winner will face the D block winner.

GLEAT

GLEAT has announced a new four-man, single-elimination UWF rules tournament which will air on its YouTube channel every Thursday.

The first match of the tournament – Daijiro Matsui versus Takanori Ito – aired today. The full match can be watched on the attachment below.
