We begin AEW Dynamite LIVE from Dailey's Place. It's the Go-Home edition before Revolution. But before we get to the Barb Wire Exploding Ring Death Match, we got Shaq. We got Jade Cargill. Tully Blanchard returns to a National TV Match for the first time in 32 years.
We're not wasting time. Cody and Red Velvet vs. Jade Cargill and Shaquille O'Neal. No wanted to see this less than me but here we are. I hope, nay, pray, that Red Velvet is up to this. I like her hometown, Straight Out Of Your Mama's Kitchen. Second only to the Graveyards of Tijuana. Jade looks great, no doubt. Shaq is tipping the scales at 365. Good God he is large (I'm a completely dominant big man way). Cody is no lightweight, it's awe inspiring how big Shaq is. Ali shuffle by Shaq. Gotta say, Shaq is staying in his wheelhouse so far. And here comes Jade. OK Red Velvet, this is it. Decent pump kick by Jade, followed by a good looking biel. She's eating imaginary spaghetti, fallaway slam. And now members of the Nightmare Family interfere for some reason.
Jade with a Figure 4. She's got presence, I'll give her that. Why she hates Cody so much, I don't understand. Jade goes for the plunder and Velvet does the same. We've got 2 tables set up as the men tag back in. Not a bad match so far, far better than I thought it would be. Cody no sells a power bomb and immediately body slams Shaq? Cody cross body blocks Shaq through the tables. He's not mailing this in, that's for sure. Jade with a face first power bomb for the win. OK Jade, I'll give it to you: heck of a debut. When I'm wrong, I admit it. That was pretty good.
Shaq sold the table spot like he'd been killed, which is kind of how it should be. Stretcher job and all. Tony goes into the ambulance and, lo and behold, Shaq is gone. As we ponder this mystery, Pac and Rey Fenix make their way to the ring to annihilate John Skyler and D3. By the time I finish writing this sentence, this should be over. Two thirds of Death Triangle do not disappoint. We're getting our MJF and Chris Jericho press conference next. I hope PWI splurged and sent Matt Brock and Eddie Ellner to Jacksonville. The announcers, oddly, don't seem concerned about Shaquille O'Neal's condition.
Dasha Gonzalez is hosting and the first reporter has a faulty mic. Jericho and MJF are in their element here. This should be entertaining as heck. Jericho's got some fire tonight, bringing up former partners Dwayne Johnson and Paul Wight. Conrad Thompson asks a Sammy Guevara question and gets verbally eviscerated. MJF even made a receding hairline joke about Nick Jackson. Eric Bischoff has the next question. Here come the Young Bucks to interrupt. They put over their dad as the best. They're wrong as mine is (Hi Dad). Bucks are walking into a 5 on 2 as they stick up for their dad. Small issue that always bugs me: when a champion comes out in situations like this, they shouldn't be wearing the belt as they do. Karl Anderson does this as well. Small thing that's always bothers me. Anderson and Gallows (wearing the Impact belts) make the save and the 3rd and 4th tables of the night get destroyed.
AEW does a promo for the Exploding Ring Barbed Wire Death Match. To AEW's credit, they got Onita to add comments to this. This will not be pretty.
JJ F'n Dillon accompanies FTR and Tully Blanchard to the ring. Tully is sporting the 1985 NWA U.S. Title belt. I swear to god my childhood is rushing back before my very eyes. Not a huge fan of Jurassic Express' new music. It'll take some getting used to. Tully is going right at it with Stunt. Jungle Boy is so quick and has amazing ring awareness. It doesn't hurt that he's in there with the masters of being in the right place at the right time. JJ gives Dax his shoe like the old days. Tully teases a tope suidica but instead we got the Blanchard strut. This match is quickly becoming a showcase for nostalgia, absolutely nothing wrong with that IF done at the right time under the right circumstances. Tonight is a different type of Dynamite episode, with Shaq showing up and a PPV 4 days away. Luchsaurus finally gets himself tagged in and cleans house. Harwood takes a hurancanrana by Perry into a Luchasaurus powerslam for 2. THAT should be a finishing move. Power Plex by FTR and Perry kicks out. I'll repeat, THAT should be a finishing move. Tully with a slingshot suplex on Marko. Fun match but these guys are kicking out from WAY too many finishing moves.
Tully Blanchard pinned Luchasaurus after a spike piledriver, with a little assist from a masked individual at ringside. It's Shawn Spears. This is nuts tonight. Hell even Arn Anderson came out to give the 4 Horsemen salute. Tony Schiavone interrupts the celebration to introduce Paul Wight. His tagline is "No More BS" Clever. He puts over the new Elevation show and tries to scoop our own Mike Johnson by saying there's going to be a huge debut at Revolution and it's not who we think. You've got my attention, AEW.
In 2021, Tully Blanchard pinned Luchasaurus. That makes me smile.
Women's title eliminator final as Nyla Rose takes on Rio Mizunami. I admit I am not up on Mizunami as I couldn't get the time to tune in to the extra content on YouTube. Vickie Guerrero is back, as I imagine she had been stuck in Texas. Rio with some interesting gyrations after a series of chops. This right here is where some of these matches should have been featured on Dynamite. I'm certain Mizunami is very good to excellent, but I have no connection to her at all as we haven't been told or been able to see it. This title eliminator tournament would have been better served starting earlier to give it the time it needed to get some of these women over. Again, nothing but respect for Mizunami, I just don't reason to be concerned.
Again, no one seems the least bit concerned where Shaquille O'Neal disappeared to.
We're back from commercial and Mizunami nails a legdrop on the apron. We're told Riho and Thunder Rosa will team up on the Revolution Pre show to take Britt Baker and Reba (Rebel). Vickie with a primal scream after a near fall by Nyla. These ladies are bringing out the heavy artillery now. Mizunami with a spear and a guillotine legdrop and she puts Rose away. Nice upset and I'm glad this was on Dynamite so now I have a little familarity headed into the title match Sunday. Shida comes in to congratulate her and we get what looks like a friendly battle of forearm smashes.
ony Schiavone is in the ring and it's STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING. Ricky Starks comes out and slaps Sting and gets beaten down like a rented mule. Hook and Powerhouse Hobbs come in and drag him away. Here comes Cage to attack and Darby Allin stops him and beats the ever loving tar out of him. So, headed into the big street fight, for the second week in a row and 8th time overall, Sting and Darby Allin neuter Team Taz. Is there any reason for this match to even take place? Team Taz has absolutely zilch in the way of credibility the way this has been booked. Horrible way to treat the faction. Even a much needed win Sunday isn't going to help.
Scorpio Sky (remember him?) joins commentary as 10 of the Mighty Dark Order (accompanied by -1) takes on Max Caster in a Ladder Match Qualifying match. Caster with a reference to Ronnie Garvin getting burned in his entrance rap. Sky sounds like he's heeling a little on commentary. How Sky, who's been on an AEW Dynamite milk carton for the last 6 months, got into this match Sunday without qualifying is beyond me. Hey, I'm a fan of the guy. Absolutely love him. AEW has given me absolutely no reason whatsoever to care.
Lots of upside to Caster and 10. I'm glad one of them will get a chance to shine at Revolution. Jack Evans with a boom box to the face of 10 and Max Caster earns his way in to the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match. Big Money Matt Hardy hands Evans a whopping $4200. Lot of moving parts with this Matt Hardy story as to who he wants to eliminate and why.
JR, Tony and Excalibur run down the Revolution card.
Main Event time as Marq Quen and Matt Hardy take on John Silver and Adam Page.
AEW might have been better served tonight eliminating some needless filler (Death Triangle, the Team Taz burial) in favor of really giving us a reason to want to pay for Sunday. It's 9:49 here on the East Coast and we haven't seen either champion or challenger in the main event. And I get that AEW is relying on the main event stipulation to sell the show, but the issue I'm having is that AEW and Tony Khan had a stipulation that needed a match. The match itself doesn't necessarily need a stipulation.
We're back from commercial and we're reminded there a tag team casino battle royale. The announcers are really into hot selling mode, which actually makes the match look like it's being seriously rushed through. A Buckshot Lariat puts this away and Matt Hardy with an attack post match. Here comes all the teams in the tag team battle royal as a little preview.
An eventful night to say the least. Are you more vested in Revolution than you were 2 hours ago? Thanks for reading.
