JIM CORNETTE, THE BLADE RUNNERS, ADRIAN STREET, ROCK N' ROLL EXPRESS & MORE: CLASSIC ALL-STAR WRESTLING EPISODE 3 REPORT

By Mike Johnson on 2021-02-24 08:10:00

This week's edition of Classic All-Star Wrestling, presented by the Jarrett/Parsons on NESN featured the following content:

*Exotic Adrian Street with Miss Linda vs. Bart Batten from April 1985 in Memphis Wrestling - This was joined in progress from the Mid-South Coliseum with Lance Russell calling the action.  Batten used some armwringers and matwork to hold Street at Bay but Street began using some great reversals before going after the wrist and fingers.  Batten was able to take him to the mat but Street kept getting his shoulders up.  Street went to the ropes but Batten took him down with a leglock.  Batten worked over the leg for some time.  Street caught him with a right hand and used a step-over armbar variation that you never see today, scissoring the arm while standing up.  He continued to drive elbows and strikes at Batten.    The referee caught Street using the ropes and argued with him.  Batten made a comeback with a series of punches and grabbed an armwringer.  He dropped a leg on the arm and continued working over it.  Street tried to use the ropes to steal a pin but the referee realized it.  Street nailed him with some forearms and wrapped the arm in the ropes before kicking at the elbow and back.  Batten kicked back at him and whipped Street into the ropes, nailing a big dropkick.  Batten nailed a big Beel Toss but Street took him down and again tried to use the ropes for the pinfall.  The referee caught him and finally had enough, calling for the DQ.  That's a finish you don't ever see in 2021.

*The Blade Runners (aka the future Sting and The Ultimate Warrior) vs. Phil Hickerson & Billy Joe Travis from January 1986 in Memphis Wrestling.  This is literally from the beginning of Sting and Warrior's career.  Hickerson was a great heel in the territories, including Texas and Memphis.  Travis was pretty much a lifer in that territory.  The Blade Runners pretty much beat them down in the Mid-South Coliseum.  Buddy Wayne hits the ring and they call for a DQ.    Travis was bloodied and sent to the floor.  Lance Russell referred to The Runners as Hellwig and Borden.  They held Hickerson for Wayne to drill him with a shoe and bust him over.  The Blade Runners were DQ'd but this was pretty much designed to show them off as vile, dangerous villains.  The Spoiler, who was Hickerson's partner in the territory, comes out and they tease he's going to join the beating but instead cleans house to make the save.  Most of the footage shown was the post-match angle.

*The Rock N' Roll Express vs. The Galaxians from 1983 in Memphis Wrestling- The Galaxians were Danny Davis and Ken Wayne aka The Nightmares.  They are managed by Jim Cornette.    Cornette cut a promo on the house mic but between the booing and the ancient footage, it was hard to hear what he said, but I assure you, he wasn't applauded.  The Rock N' Roll Express will lose their hair if they lose.  Alpha aka Wayne is there but no Beta, so Cornette teams with Alpha.  Gibson and Alpha start out. Gibson hit a big monkey flip.  Morton and Gibson tag in and out.  Morton is rolled up but kicked out and used a big armbar and controlled Alpha on the mat.    Alpha took control after Morton missed a kneedrop and locked on a chinlock.  Cornette finally tagged in and was running all over the ring to try to keep away from Morton but it didn't work out so well for him.  Morton covered him for the pin but pulled Cornette up and tagged in Gibson.  Gibson nailed him and covered Cornette for the pin.
