Northeast Wrestling “NEW Studio Wars: Episode 7”

2/23/21

Available Now at www.HighspotsWrestlingNetwork.com

On the last episode of “NEW STUDIO WARS”, we had kind of a “back from school vacation vibe” in the battle royale, reintroducing the locker room to the viewers at home and setting up a huge main event for this week’s episode:

For tonight’s action, Paul Crockett and Jon Roy are on commentary.

Match 1: “#MCM” Mucho Chris Moljo vs Gio Galvano

Moljo with a knee to the gut and taunts, Galvano catches a crucifix pin attempt. Galvano with the shotgun dropkick and Moljo catches him running with a forearm to the back of the head. Big clubbing blows to the back and head. Gio through the leg and rolls up for two. Moljo blasts him down again for a two. Big sidewalk slam for another close one. Gio catches him with a pele kick and some running forearms. Galvano with a bulldog and a flying knee puts Moljo down for three.

Winner: Gio Galvano

Good solid opener here. These guys were about the same size but this was definitely a Power vs Speed matchup. Moljo was on the offensive for a good chunk of this but Galvano is back to winning at Studio Wars.

We get a flashback to remind us that Channing Thomas has formed an alliance with JP Grayson and that....let’s see, Jared Silberkleit hates it when I call him a “sleaze” and/or a “weasel”. Well, what haven’t I called that anthropomorphic bag of heels yet? Maybe Paul Crockett will give me some nice descriptive terms later.

Match 2: JP Grayson & Channing Thomas (w/ Jared Silberkleit) vs The Haven (Jay Onyx & Shawn Knyte)

There was some WEIRD editing in this match, mostly in shot transitions that used cross fades and slide cuts. Super distracting, definitely cutting out segments of match in a clunky way. As for the match, Onyx takes a lot of heat. Knyte in hot, goes for the finish but JP dumps Knyte out of the ring. Thomas and JP hit the Demolition elbow drop backbreaker on Onyx for the pin. Jared Silberkleit celebrates with his Trust Fund boys. They are likely thinking they should be in the mix for the tag belts, currently held by Inzanely Rude.

Winners: JP Grayson & Channing Thomas

We get a Steven Stetson promo, making his single’s debut in NEW tonight. He says no man, woman or WRECKING BALL has a chance against him. Ohhhhhh no....

Match 3: Steven Stetson vs Wrecking Ball Legursky

Stetson attacks as Wrecking Ball gets in the ring. That doesn’t last because he decides post for the hard cam...bad move. Here comes Legursky. Big corner clothesline and chops to cut down the big cowboy. Toss across the ring and a big backdrop. Stetson with an elbow to the spine and goes to work, dropping elbows to the head, bringing the big man to the canvas for elbow and leg drops. Emphatic one count! Legursky get him in  a fireman’s carrry, Stetson slips it and blasts a lariat for two. Stetson misses a leg drop, Legursky with shoulder blocks and a series of strikes to wobble Stetson. Corner splashes and a running clothesline turns Stetson inside out. Big Vader Bomb and Stetson is out for three.

Winner: Wrecking Ball Legursky

Props to Stetson for taking on the biggest fish in the pond in his debut. But Wrecking Ball is still a wrecking ball. Good smash up to showcase both guys here.

We get a promo for our main event, focusing on how the undefeated Christian Casanova beat Brad Hollister back in December on Episode 5 of Studio Wars to defend his championship. Now, after Hollister won last week’s battle royale, we have 2 out of 3 falls to decide this rivalry. Matt Taven joins Crockett and Roy on commentary.

Main Event: “Top Talent” Christian Casanova(c) vs “Big Bacon” Brad Hollister (2 out of 3 Falls for the NEW LIVE Championship)

1st Fall: They come rushing in but Casanova is ready for Bacon and takes him down into an arm bar. Hollister with the headlock takedown but Casanova slides into a head scissor arm lock. Bacon wrestles him up to the rope and gives the clean break. He knows he has time. Casanova uses that confidence against him and speeds it up. Slingshot larait, springboard leg drop for two. Hollister takes a powder, Casanova gives chase and chops him up on the stairs and barricade. Bacon slammed on the stairs a couple of times, Bacon on the retreat but tosses the champ back-first onto the apron. Hollister fires up on chops and posts Casanova. Hollister grabs a chair. The ref grabs the chair, which distracts Bacon enough to eat an enziguri and drop to the apron. Casanova misses the Sucka kick, hits the Dirty Diana tilt a whirl arm breaker, Hollister kicks out. Casanova wants the kick again, Hollister with a high angle german. Casanova with a code breaker and Hollister powders again. Casanova goes for the dive but Hollister wallops him in the face with the chair and draws the DQ. Casanova is up 1:0

2nd Fall: Hollister hits Casanova repeatedly with the chair between falls. The champ struggles to his feet, turns around right into a sitout powerbomb. Ref counts the three. Score is tied 1:1

3rd Fall: Big Bacon is looking confident. Casanova dodges a second powerbomb, hits a high knee and staggers Hollister with strikes. Hollister with a slam and senton for two. Bacon with a judo toss and grids out Casanova’s neck. Casanova gets a few defiant shots in but Hollister is battering him down. Casanova sent over the top to the floor. The champ sent to the barricades repeatedly. Casanova with a running knee attempt but goes into the barricade. Bacon is stalking his prey. German suplex for two. How cold is it in that building? You can see the sweat steaming off of Big Bacon. Casanova fires back up with more shots, Dirty Diana, Sucka Kick, hooks the leg...kick out! Casanova may have burned himself out, his knee clearly hurting him from that ride into the barricade. Casanova up to the top but Hollister cuts him off. Deadlift Superplex from the apron! Two count! Both guys are tired. Casanova up on the top rope and hits a Sucka kick. The pain to the leg is so much, the cover is slow, Bacon kicks out. Casanova tries coming off the top again, avoids the up-kick, Hollister school boy for two. Hollister drags the champ up for a one-arm powerbomb and a huge vertical suplex for three! We have a new NEW LIVE champ!

Winner (and new NEW LIVE Champion): Brad Hollister

Their episode 5 match was good stuff, this blew it away. Commentary with a standing ovation for the effort these two put in. Great main event level work. Casanova was never out of the fight here but this was all about Brad Hollister weathering that initial flurry of aggression from Top Talent and grinding him down to take that belt.

And that’s it for Episode 7! Apart from the tag match (which I talked about), this was a good build of a show. Solid opener, good big man stuff and, if this is Casanova’s last stand in NEW, it was a heck of an exit. For next week, they announce “Man of Steel” Mike Verna vs “The Air Pod God” Richard Holliday and “Red Lion” Chris Battle v “The American Sumo” Mike Gamble! Until then!
