The first episode of Young Rock will debut tonight at 8 PM EST on NBC. The premiere will replay Thursday 2/18 at 8 PM EST.
Titled Working the Gimmick, the official synopsis for the premiere notes, "As Dwayne Johnson runs for president in 2032, he reflects on his life that's shaped him into the man he is today, from growing up in a resilient family surrounded by wrestling icons, to navigating rebellious teen years, to playing NCAA football."
Next week's episode features the following plot - "Pennsylvania, 1987: Dwayne pretends he’s rich to impress popular girl Karen, but a date to Rocky’s wrestling match at the flea market risks exposing the truth. Stressed about money, Ata takes on a wealthy new client."
Young Rock showrunner Nahnatchka Khan did an interview with Variety, discussing the creation of the series, similarities with her previous series "Fresh Off the Boat.", conversations with The Rock, writing 80s wrestling stars, comedy and heartfelt moments, her brother Nick Khan working alongside Vince McMahon and more. In the interview, Khan noted watching pro wrestling on the weekend with family was a regular tradition with The Iron Sheik being a big hero in the household as they were from Iran and he was the only person with their same accent. She noted Nick was the biggest fan in the family and now he's WWE President.
