WHO WILL BE THE WWE CHAMPION AFTER DREW MCINTYRE

By Kendall Jenkins on 2021-02-11 10:44:00

The Drew McIntyre WWE title reign has dominated the last 12 months. The Scottish superstar has carried Raw throughout the pandemic era of WWE after winning the championship for the first time at WrestleMania 12 months ago against Brock Lesnar. McIntyre did drop the title at Hell in a Cell after being beaten by Randy Orton, but he quickly regained the title in the middle of November ahead of Survivor Series.

The reigning champion will face his biggest test to date at the Elimination Chamber PPV, as he defends the gold against five previous champions, which does raise the question, who could be the WWE Champion after the Scottish star?

The Miz

It’s hard to get away from the fact that The Miz is Mr Money in the Bank, which will see the A-Lister get a championship match at any time of his choosing. For that reason, it isn’t hard to see why he is the favorite to bet on with offshore sportsbooks like the ones on Vegas Odds that offer wrestling betting markets to be the next WWE champion. The Miz won the Money in the Bank contract after beating Otis in a singles match at the Hell in a Cell PPV.

He has previously attempted to cash-in the contract, but he was unsuccessful as McIntyre was able to regain the title at TLC against AJ Styles and Miz. However, the contract was handed back to the A-Lister the following night. The one-time champion remains in a strong position in his pursuit of the championship with just under two months to go before WrestleMania 37.

Edge

The WWE Universe is still waiting for Edge’s decision after the Rated-R Superstar won the 2021 Royal Rumble. Edge went the distance in that match after entering in one of the first two spots, before finally eliminating Randy Orton to punch his ticket to the main event of Mania this year. Edge’s quest to win back the championship that he was forced to relinquish ten years ago through injury is the biggest story heading into this year’s showpiece event.

However, it still unknown whether he will choose to face McIntyre, as there is a growing sense that he may instead set his sights on Roman Reigns and the Universal Championship. Whichever title match Edge is involved in on the Grandest Stage, he will be the favourite to win, and he would likely be a shorter price to be the next champion if he was rumored to be targeting the WWE Championship.

Sheamus

McIntyre and Sheamus is the big rivalry heading into the Elimination Chamber event, as the Irish superstar has recently turned on his former best friend and has set his sights on becoming the next WWE Champion. Sheamus and McIntyre will certainly be able to tell an excellent story, but it is unlikely to be one that ends with the Celtic Warrior winning his fifth world title.

Instead, the feud between the Scot and Irishman will likely be the one that carries the WWE Championship to Mania this year, before McIntyre then takes on a bigger name at the biggest show of the year.
