IBUSHI VS. SANADA: 2/11 NJPW NEW BEGINNING IN HIROSHIMA NIGHT TWO REPORT

By James Kurokawa  on 2021-02-11 16:43:00

2/11/21 Results for NJPW's The New Beginning in Hiroshima at Sun Plaza Hall:

Gabriel Kidd, Yuya Uemura and Yota Tsuji vs. DOUKI, Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi.  The young lions had a chip on their shoulders and were ready to fight Suzuki-Gun.   The young lions started strong but Taichi quickly took control of the match for their team.  ZSJ forces Kidd to tap to a Stylist Lock.   Dangerous Tekkers kept punishing the young lions, getting their frustrations out for losing the prior night.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru, El Desperado and Minoru Suzuki vs. SHO, Tomoaki Honma and Master Wato, with Hiroyoshi Tenzan.  Wato pins Kanemaru with a roll up and bridge.  The pinning sequence was messy and awkward, as Wato had trouble with the bridge and he feet got tangled in the ropes.     Wato getting the win tells me New Japan wants to push him.   There is still room for improvement.

El Phantasmo, Taiji Ishimori and Yujiro Takahashi vs. BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito.  Bullet Club attacks Los Ingobernales de Japon at the bell.   Good match!  Naito pins Takahashi with Destino.

Toru Yano and Kazuchika Okada vs. Dick Togo and EVIL.  Yano took out Togo and they fought to the back.   The match essentially became a singles match which is what Okada has wanted for weeks.    Togo returned to the ring with a piano wire.   He attacked Okada.   The referee ruled the match for Okada and disqualified EVIL.  Yano came back to the ring but EVIL took him out with a low blow.  Togo chokes out Okada with the wire.  The young lions came in the help Okada but Togo beat them out of the ring.

NEVER Openweight 6-man Tag Team Championship:  Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Jay White, Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga, with Jado and Gedo.  Awesome match!  This was non-stop action for over 25 minutes.    YOSHI-HASHI pins Tanga Loa with a cradle roll up.     CHAOS retains the titles!    By pinning Tanga Loa, CHAOS is in line for a IWGP Tag Team Title  shot.    YOSHI-HASHI took the mic and immediately issued the challenge for he and Goto against G.O.D.  Also over the last two events, Tanga Loa is greatly improved.   He and Zack Sabre Jr. had a good match last night and he wrestled well against a technical master.    He continued his hard work in this match tonight.   Facing 5 of the best wrestlers in New Japan on back to back nights was impressive.   Great stuff from Tanga Loa.

Zack Sabre, Jr. joins Kevin Kelly on English commentary.

IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental Double Championship:  Kota Ibushi vs. SANADA.  The match started and it was quiet.   All you could hear was the noises in the ring.   Both men grappled in the early moments which ZSJ said was great.    SANADA gets an early advantage by hitting a Magic Killer on Ibushi on the ring floor, attacking his neck.    SANADA targets Ibushi’s neck with his offense.    Great back and forth match.   SANADA took a Kamagoye to the back of the head.   Then another Kamagoye to the face.   SANADA kicks out at two.   SANADA goes for a roll up with a bridge.   Ibushi kicks out at 2.999.   Crowd gasps at how close SANADA came.  Ibushi pulls the knee pad down and nails a Kamagoye and gets the pin.  Kota Ibushi retains the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Double Championship.  Awesome match.   Both men bow to each other in the ring.

Ibushi gets the mic.  Tetsuya Naito walks to the ring.    Naito challenges Ibushi for the iWGP Intercontinental Championship ONLY.   Ibushi accepts the challenge.    Zack Sabre Jr. calls Naito a “blithering idiot”.  Interesting development.   Naito wanted to hold both titles which he was the first to do.   Now it seems Naito is looking to separate them.

Stay tuned for the Road to Castle Attack for the latter half of February.    New Japan Cup to follow in March.
