AEW DARK REPORT

By Josh Higham on 2021-02-10 12:55:00

Excalibur, Taz, and Anthony Ogogo welcome us to the massive episode of Dark.

The Natural Nightmares are teaming with a new member of the Nightmare Family. The opponents, Vary Morales and Jersey Muscle Society, are already in the ring. This match was all about showcasing Comoroto’s power game while Ogogo hyped us QT Marshall as the trainer at the Nightmare Factory. Comoroto gorilla presses Morales while Rhodes connects with a bulldog from the second rope gives them the win.

Two more members of the Nightmare Family, Lee Johnson and Aaron Solow, head to the ring to take on SCU. Still running on the story that SCU will split with their next loss, so we know the outcome already. A back and forth, evenly contested match that went over 10 minutes. Johnson and Solow’s offense would get undercut by the commentary team mentioning that Johnson still hasn’t won a match in AEW, which is the problem with keeping track of records. Best Meltzer Ever gets the expected win for SCU.

Brian Cage comes to the ring to take on Jake St. Patrick, who is already in the ring. Hook is ringside. Two powerbombs, a powerbomb onto the knee, and the Drill Claw, and an easy night for Cage.

The Acclaimed are talking to therapist, which segues us to the new music video from them.

Miranda Alyze is already in the ring to take on Nyla Rose. The Beast Bomb is enough to get Rose the win as Diamante and Ivelisse look on from the crowd.

Pac is ranked #5 and taking on VSK. We’re told Pac will take on Ryan Nemeth on Dynamite this week. Brutalizer gets the submission win for Pac, who still won’t climb the turnbuckles to celebrate.

Sonny Kiss is taking on KC Navarro, and Ricky Starks has joined commentary. Kiss takes an early advantage with a number, but Navarro is able to roll away from a standing moonsault. Kiss takes the advantage back, decides against the splitting leg drop from the top rope, and connects with a splitting TKO instead to get the win.

Tay Conti, now #5 in the women’s rankings, is taking on Alex Gracia. Anna Jay did the thing where she walks to the stage and returns to the back before the match. Conti keeps wrist control for a while and connects with a few kicks and throws. Conti locks in a knee bar, but Gracia is about to roll them to the floor. A hammerlock DDT and knee strike later, Conti ties Gracia up to get the tap out.

The Hollywood Hunk Ryan Nemeth is back to take on Marko Stunt, but he grabs the microphone first. Nemeth gets the impression that the crowd doesn’t like him, but he thinks the crowd would feel better if they said that they loved Ryan. Excalibur explains that FTR just let Marko go after being handcuffed to the chair on Dynamite last week. Apparently, FTR wanted to send the message that they could take any one of Jurassic Express any time they wanted. Marko catches Nemeth with a kick by surprise at the opening bell. Nemeth sets up for the Rude Awakening, but gyrates too much. FTR’s music plays, distracting Stunt long enough to let Nemeth catch Stunt in a Rude Awakening for the pinfall.

Peter Avalon teams with Cezar Bononi for the first time to take on Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo. Bravo is making his AEW debut, and Shawn Dean has more losses than almost everyone who has ever appeared on AEW. I looked it up: Carlie Bravo is at least the 12th tag team partner Shawn Dean has had on AEW Dark. We’re told Bravo is a relatively new graduate of the Nightmare Factory. Marti-knees gets the win for Avalon and Bononi. After the match, we’re reminded Bononi and Avalon are taking on Cody Rhodes and Lee Johnson on Dynamite.

Preston Vance, 10 of the Dark Order, is taking on Baron Black. The Dark Order salutes from the stage, and Colt Cabana is back to waving. The commentators tell us that Black and Vance have wrestled each other on the independents. 10’s new mask with a one on one eye and a zero on the other is not great. Baron Black gets his share of offense, but a spinebuster and powerbomb gives 10 the pinfall win.

Diamante, accompanied by Ivelisse, heads to the ring to take on Red Velvet, accompanied by Big Swole. Red Velvet is now #2 in the women’s rankings. Red Velvet gets the win after a trio of kicks to Diamante.

The Dark main event is Jack Evans vs Joey Janela. With Janela challenging for the TNT Title on Dynamite, you have to imagine, Janela has to win this one. Jack Evans hits a springboard kick on Joey Janela as Janela is making his entrance. As Evans is climbing to the top rope, Janela knocks him down to the floor. Janela fights out of a standing octopus to hit Evans with a Blu-Ray. Janela is able to kick out a 450 splash, and Evans kicks out of a package piledriver. The top rope elbow is enough to give Janela the pinfall win before his title challenge on Dynamite.
