1/30 NEW JAPAN RESULTS

By James Kurokawa  on 2021-01-30 20:40:00

From Aichi, Nagoya, Japan:

El Phantasmo joins Kevin Kelly on English commentary.

1 - Toru Yano and Kazuchika Okada vs. Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL, with Dick Togo

Yano low blows Takahashi and pins him with a roll up.

Kevin Kelly and ELP talks about KENTA vs. Jon Moxley (finally) for the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship.  Kelly asked ELP how it felt to be hit in the face with U.S. Title Belt after New Japan Strong last night.   ELP said KENTA will bring the belt hone to the Bullet Club.

Kevin Kelly said no date announced for this title match yet.

2 - Master Wato, SHO, Tomoaki Honma and Kota Ibushi vs. BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Tetsuya Naito and SANADA

SHO pins BUSHI with Shock Arrow.

3 - Loser must stop using the Mongolian Chop:   Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. The Great O-Khan

ELP said that The United Empire cannot lose these matches.  After their loses at Wrestle Kingdom, ELP said they cannot lose again, now to older wrestlers like Tenzan and Kojima.

I agree with this.

O-Khan came to the ring first and attacked Tenzan on his way to the ring.  This is a brawl.  Both men beating the hell out of each other.  Tenzan went for and misses a moonsault.  Wow!   O-Khan beat down Tenzan and hit a TTD, the same move which almost broke Tenzan’ neck.  O-Khan goes for the pin.   Tenzan kicks out!   Crowd pops!   Tenzan gets to his feet, all fired up.  O-Khan grabs Tenzan by the face and hits the Eliminator.   O-Khan pins Tenzan

Tenzan will no longer be allowed to use the Mongolian Chop.

4 -  No Disqualification Match:  Satoshi Kojima vs. Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay comes to the ring with trash cans and a guitar.    No Bea Priestley.   The match immediately goes to the floor.   Kojima takes a cookie tray to the head.  Ospreay is back dropped on a trash can.   Ospreay kept bringing weapons into the ring which Kojima would use on him.  Ospreay was hip tossed on a chair.   Kojima hit an elbow from the top rope on Ospreay who had a chair on his chest.    Kojima splintered the guitar on Ospreay’s head.  Brutal.   Kojima went for a lariat but Ospreay reverses and ipowerbombs Kojima through table that Kojima set up in the corner.   Ospreay hit an Oscutter.  Kojima kicks out at two.  Ospreay breaks a chair over the back of Kojima.   Kojima knocks Ospreay with a lariat off the top rope through a ladder that was balanced on the ring apron and guardrails.  Ouch!   Ospreay was motionless and the referee began the count.    Kojima broke the count and pushed a limp Ospreay back in the ring.  Kojima hits a brainbuster on Ospreay onto a pile of chairs.   Damn!   Ospreay kicks out at two.   Ospreay goes for an Oscutter but takes a lariat to the back of the head.   Ospreay throws a chair at Kojima who catches it and Ospreay blasts him with an elbow through the chair and face of Kojima.   Ospreay follows up with a wicked Hidden Blade.  Kojima is out.   Ospreay hits a Storm Breaker.    Ospreay pins Kojima.

Great match!   Much better than I expected.

The United Empire did their job tonight and accomplished what they promised to do.

Hiromu Takahashi joined the Japanese commentary team.   ELP started throwing objects at Hiromu.   Kelly told him to stop.   Funny stuff.

5 - NEVER Openweight Championship Match:   Shingo Takagi vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

Tanahashi pins Takagi with a High Fly Flow.

Hiroshi Tanahashi wins the NEVER Openweight Championship.

No words to describe this match.  Please.  Go watch this match.   This was awesome.   This was just as great as Cobb vs. Takagi at Wrestle Kingdom.

I do not know how Tanahashi made it through this match.  In the middle of the match, Takagi delivered a Made in Japan and Tanahashi landed on his head.    I immediately thought of Steve Austin.   Thankfully, The Ace was able to finish.  Very scary moment.

Takagi and Tanahashi showed respect to each other after the match.   They teased a rematch as Takagi left.

Tanahashi gave the fans an air guitar show to go home happy.

The Great O-Khan hit the ring and laid out Tanahashi with an Eliminator.   Looks like he is demanding to be the first challenger.  The United Empire will now be looking for gold to win.

El Phantasmo was great on English commentary.

The Road to New Beginning continues.

Thanks for reading.
