5 WAYS TO TAKE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY GAME TO THE NEXT LEVEL

By Kendall Jenkins on 2021-01-04 07:44:00

Have you been taking photos for several years now, but are having trouble making money in the industry? The photography industry is very cutthroat, with everyone competing for a few gigs here and there. If you want to get yourself noticed and be ahead of the pack, you have to let your photos do the talking. You'll want to be bold and be different and stand out from the rest. Here are several ways to take your photography game to the next level.

Custom and creative backdrops

When it comes to taking backdrops, people generally like to stick with simple solid colors or a bookcase in the background. As a result of this, a lot of photographers have their portraits look identical to each other. How are you going to differentiate yourself if everyone is doing the same thing? Take a risk and try to come up with something new and fresh with the backdrops that you offer. When it comes to choosing, have many different creative options available. That way, your client can choose what suits them best.

Finding backdrops to purchase can be quite difficult, though. You can buy backdrops on Just Vision It and have them perfectly made for whatever situation you're looking for. If you can create the perfect creative backdrop, people will remember you for a while, and you'll certainly stand out in the photography game.

Diversify your portfolio.

Photographers are guilty of taking the same types of photos over and over again for their portfolios. For example, if you're always taking nature shots, the only people who would be interested in what you do are people who are into that type of photography. However, if you want to get noticed in the industry, you have to prove that you're versatile and have the skills to shoot various styles.

A great photographer is one who can master multiple styles, and even incorporate several of them into one photo. If you can create a portfolio with many different styles, you'll impress whoever is looking at it and show that you can do whatever they need you for. The more you can showcase, the better you'll be as a photographer.

Bring a photographer friend with you.

Most of the time, photography can be a very lonely hobby with someone traveling out into the city or nature by themselves to capture a ton of different photos. While having some alone time can be great, you're missing out on receiving some constructive criticism. When it comes to the arts, we often stick to what we know and are good at and are nervous about expanding out of our bubble. Therefore, even if we're sticking to nature shots, we might default to the exact same type of shot within nature every time. Bringing a friend who's a photographer with you will allow you to get a second opinion on everything that you do, and can even offer advice when it comes to choosing where to shoot. Getting all of this information delivered firsthand, so you can act on it right away, will make you that much better of a photographer. You'll also have someone you can spend time with during it all. If you're ever having a block or are afraid of branching out, bring along a friend during your next shoot to help you through it.

Turn off the auto-focus.

A lot of beginner photographers fall into the caveat of relying on their auto-focus for every shot that they take. If you're taking a still photo, it might not be the biggest problem, but if you plan to take one in which there's a lot of action, auto-focus can be a nightmare for you. This technology will continually try to find the photo's focal point and focus everything else around it. This can result in a few problems.

First, it's not focusing on the thing that you want to bring emphasis to. The other problem is that it's trying to keep up with all the movement, but is unable to do so. Finally, auto-focus can sometimes take way too long, and by the time it has focused in, you've missed out on the perfect shot. While it will take some time to learn how to use manual focus, it will add a whole new layer to your photography and allow you to be in complete control of everything happening in front of you.

Take the time to photo edit.

Photography isn't just about finding the perfect scene, and then pressing the button. It's also about learning how to use the technology and software around the photo to bring it to life. Things like increasing contrasts or softening edges are skills you have to master if you want to stand out in the photography game.

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can't get the subject of your photo to stand out from the rest of the picture. Taking the time to edit it can guarantee that people are focusing on what you want them to. Photo editing also allows you to play with colors and match everything in the shot. Sometimes, you might want everything in the photo to blend together, while other times, you might want things to clash. Whatever you're aiming for, you need to have the skills as an editor to make it happen.

These are just a few ways to really improve your photography game and impress other professionals in the industry. Remember that photography is a skill, and just like any other skill, it will take a lot of time and practice to master. Don't be hard on yourself if things aren't working out as you planned right away, and don't give up on certain techniques if you find them challenging in the beginning. Stick with your craft, and with enough luck and hard work, you can find yourself a nice career in the industry. What's your favorite type of photo to shoot?
