NJPW ROAD TO TOKYO DOME TOUR ROLLS ON, UPDATE ON DRAGON GATE'S BEN-K AND MORE FROM JAPAN

By Oliver Taylor on 2020-12-21 08:43:00

New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling held its fifth Road to Tokyo Dome tour show in Korakuen Hall today.

The full results were:

• Satoshi Kojima, Tiger Mask and Togi Makabe def. Gabriel Kidd, Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura
• Juice Robinson and Toa Henare def. KENTA and Yujiro Takahashi
• Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi def. El Desperado, Minoru Suzuki and Yoshinobu Kanemaru
• Chase Owens, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa def. DOUKI, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr.
• Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb and Will Ospreay def. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada and Tomoaki Honma
• Dick Togo, EVIL and Jay White def. BUSHI, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito

Tiger Mask’s match today was his first since February. He has missed time recovering from colonic diverticulitis.

Juice Robinson posed with KENTA’s IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship challenge rights certificate briefcase after the second match. It seems the pair are destined to face each other for the briefcase at Wrestle Kingdom 15.

Master Wato pinned Yoshinobu Kanemaru in the third match, meaning Wato has pinned both holders of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships in the last month (he defeated El Desperado in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament). One could reasonably assume Wato will team with Ryusuke Taguchi to challenge for the championships at Wrestle Kingdom.

Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb and Will Ospreay continued to attack Hiroshi Tanahashi’s knee after the fifth match. It looked like Kazuchika Okada had successfully the save but Ospreay snuck back in the ring to hit the Hidden Blade on Okada.

The main event was EVIL and Jay White’s first time teaming together since EVIL joined Bullet Club. There were certainly subtle teases of dissension, such as EVIL’s delayed response to participate in Bullet Club’s signature pre-match hand gesture, although tensions seemed to ease throughout the match as EVIL and White made regular tags to each other.

New Japan will hold another show in Korakuen Hall tomorrow. The full card is:

• Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens vs. Tomoaki Honma and Toru Yano
• El Desperado, Minoru Suzuki and Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi
• DOUKI, Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa and Yujiro Takahashi
• Dick Togo, EVIL and Taiji Ishimori vs. Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito
• BUSHI and Shingo Takagi vs. Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb
• Gedo, Jay White and KENTA vs. Juice Robinson, Kota Ibushi and SHO

Dragon Gate

Dragon Gate has provided an update on Ben-K after he was seemingly knocked out in the closing stretch of his Open the Dream Gate Championship match against Shun Skywalker at yesterday’s The Final Gate 2020 show.

Ben-K was taken to hospital after the match and was diagnosed with a mild concussion. He is in a stable condition but will not compete for the time being as a precautionary measure.

All Japan Pro Wrestling

Yoshitatsu has demanded his GAORA TV Championship defense against Jun Kasai on January 3 is a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match.

The bout will be Yoshitatsu’s tenth defense of the championship. He originally refused to face Kasai in a deathmatch.

The last TLC match in All Japan was Kaz Hayashi and KENSO (also known as Kenzo Suzuki in WWE) versus Manabu Soya and Takao Omori in 2012.

DDT Pro-Wrestling

DDT Pro-Wrestling announced the KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Championships have been vacated and will be re-introduced at Kawasaki Strong 2021 on February 14 during a virtual press conference today.

However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, a capacity restriction has been set on the championships and it will temporarily become the KO-D 8-Man Tag Team Championships.

Sanshiro Takagi and Shinya Aoki will each captain a team at Kawasaki Strong. The remaining six team members are currently undecided.
