NAWA JINGLE BRAWL NEWS AND NOTES

By Mike Johnson on 2020-12-20 14:43:00

After their Jingle Brawl event last night, The North American Wrestling Alliance announced 2/13 and 3/21 PPVs on FITE.TV from The Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC.  Tickets will be available from Ticketmaster

Chase Stevens won the NAWA title last night.  Micah Taylor won the Intercontinental title.  Roma Luchadora won the Women's title.  Logan Creed and Frankie Ciatso won the Tag Team titles.

One source stated the show drew in the 150 range in a building that could have held FAR more, obviously, but we have heard others who have stated the crowd was far less.

In many ways, the emotional highlights were the tributes to Hercules Hernandez and Bruiser Brody, with Tony Capone and Tony Atlas giving tributes to Hernandez and Atlas paying tribute to Brody with Barbara Goodish in attendance.  The show reminded me of a 1990s independent show, which given that they were pushing they wanted an "old school show", that would certainly fall into the category.

Atlas has been named the on-air NAWA Commissioner.

Set for the 2/13 event is Roma Luchadora vs. Marina Tucker.

Tony Capone and Lou Reardon, who promoted events in the Northeast in the mid-1990s, handled the booking.  There was talk last night that Danny Inferno would be getting more involved behind the scenes.

There was also concern last night Inferno may have suffered a torn rotator cuff last night while wrestling Micah Taylor.  He still worked the main event battle royal but was limited in what he could do.

Afa Jr. (former WWE star Manu) was advertised for the event but did not appear.  At different points, Kevin Sullivan, The Nasty Boys, and Jimmy Hart had been advertised but did not appear.  There were other independent names who were announced and disappeared as NAWA built to the show.  Obviously, they don't want to get into advertising and then not delivering.

Althought it was shot around on the broadcast, a young talent from Florida was knocked out and was out of it for a long time on the floor after catching someone tossed from the ring and smacking himself hard on the way down.  There was a lot of concern and we are told it was a scary scene but he after awhile, he was said to be OK although he obviously suffered a concussion.

One thing that needs to be improved if they do another Royal Rumble is that there were far too many talents who were involved that the announcers didn't know the names of.

Former WWE star Bull James was brought in as a surprise.  James commented on his Facebook page, "Thank you Tony Capone for a great weekend that reminded a lot of us just how much fun our business is supposed to be and for doing your best to keep us safe. It felt damn good to be around the brothers and sisters again..."

Gangrel vs. Kahagas was at one point slated to go on last on the show but that was changed the day of the show at Gangrel's request, we are told.  The match went on first.

There was a sponsorship with Cheetah's, a local adult establishment, so all the talents ended up there last night for an after-show party.
