COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Anthony Pires on 2020-12-16 20:09:00

We are as LIVE as live can be from Dailey's Place as we kick things off with Adam Page and the Dark Order's (?) John Silver and Alex Reynolds take on Private Party and Matt Hardy.  Quen and Kassidy are now gimmick-less in their entrance.  No velvet rope, no 24 Oz of Vodka Cranberry, nada.  I'm not sure how to take this Silver and Reynolds things.  Obviously, I am pwinsider's resident Dark Order fan, but Silver is getting over on his own outside the group.  Reynolds and he are attached at the hip.  I know they consider themselves Dark Order Recruitment Specialists, it just seems like their destined to be on their own.

JR (who has the call tonight, alongside Tony Schiavone and Excalibur) speculates about Matt Hardy.  He does say something to the effect of change is coming, he just doesn't know where it leads.  He speculates that Hardy is looking to be a king, not a mentor, to Private Party.  We get a Bob Caudle reference early tonight.  Pretty standard six man tag here.  The match itself is pretty inconsequential compared to the curiosity of where the stories are going: can Silver and Reynolds recruit Page (not likely) and is Hardy making a heel turn (no clue where that's going).  The action is fine, as is most every match AEW puts on, but I've been trained by AEW, all too well, to not care about Private Party, still living off the victory over the Ypung Bucks 14 months ago.  Hardy and Party with the win when Matt tags himself in after Gin & Juice on Reynolds.

Still to come: Joey Janela can earn a title match if he beats Kenny Omega.  Can't really see that happening, no offense to Janela.

The Inner Circle has interview time where Alex Marvez congratulates MJF on making the NYT best performance list of 2020.  MJF gets his no-too-subtle digs in on Jericho.  12 man tag action with the Inner Circle later.  I can sense Cory firing up the bullet points already.

Cody Rhodes vs Angelico is up.  HEY CONGRATULATIONS TO CODY AND BRANDI!  Baby on the way in 2021!!!  Props to the happy couple.  Brandi and Arn Anderson accompany him to the ring.  Arn is in a sweat suit.  Will he he engaged in physicality tonight.  Angelico, who comes in tonight with an absolutely zero chance of actually winning, at least gets a spotlight on the main show.  I've got a cool George Washington that says Top Flight makes some type of appearance here.  Anderson's confidence is high, seeing he doesn't have the coaching board with him tonight.  I wonder if Brandi's pregnancy puts off the entire Jade Cargill thing for awhile.

As we go to break, we're told that AEW Dynamite will be delayed until at least 10 PM next week after NBA basketball.  I was hoping to hit the sack early next Wednesday as I plan on catching at least 3-4 showings of a Christmas Story starting Thursday.  The match lasted through the picture in picture break.  I'm thinking this might have been the right match to do a finish during the commercial.  We're trained at this point that picture in picture is coming and to stay tuned, but we're also trained to believe that nothing of consequence happens during that time.  It might behoove them, once or twice, to end a cold match like this during commercial to train us to make sure we stay tuned.

Cody with the pin off of a cutter and here comes the reason Cody's really out there.  Team Taz comes out and they mock the impending fatherhood of Rhodes.  Team Taz is coming down and here go the lights.  Last time Sting ran off 4 heels.  Hook is there so now it's 5 and YES.  THE. HEELS. BACK. OFF. Team Taz is dead by no fault of their own.  These should be 4 bonna fide major players in AEW already.  They've been booked to run off twice now by Sting,  WHY NOT attack him?!?!?!?  Am I supposed to think this group has any credibility left at all? Why not just have Cody win, have Sting come out and stare down Cody?  I can't even bother or care as to what's going to happen with Sting and Cody.

Now let's see how dangerous Miro is.  He's been fined $75,000 for his attack on three stage hands last week.  Next week, the wedding date announcement.  Marvez asks about the men he hospitalized.  Miro's answer: Bah Humbug!....

Eddie Kingston is here to address his enemies, of which he has a lot, including God, apparently.  Eddie says that Pac is never coming back form his injury, which guarantees that he is.  As soon as he says Lance Archer's name, here he comes.  They brawl.  Here comes Butcher, here comes Blade, here come the Lucha Brothers.  HEY! Here comes Pac, 70 seconds after Kingston said his injury would keep him out forever. Can't believe an Eddie Kingston segment bombed this badly.

12 Man Tag is up next!  The Inner Circle, Sans Wardlow, against Best Friends, THe Varsity Blondes and Top Flight.  Ross describes The Inner Circle as AEW's most dominant faction.  That's not saying much..  Orange Cassidy appears to be asleep.  The action should be good, I'll say that.  On a positive, I'm glad Garrsion and Pillman are getting a little shine here.  Top Flight has looked good.  Again, there's no reason to wonder about the outcome here, this match exists purely to advance the Inner circle story.  Match is fine, absolutely nothing anyone is going to remember 10 minutes after it's over.  This may have been too ambitious an undertaking to do here but, hey, on a show like this when Eddie Kingston got about a minute of mic time.  Jerciho nails Garrison with Floyd the bat, Hager nails the Wardlow F10, MJF tags himself in and scores the pin. The same ending of the earlier match.

Thunder Rosa with a warning to Dr. Britt Baker.  Reba and Baker retailiate with an attack.

SCU vs. The Acclaimed.  Max Caster has real chops on the mic.  He's rapping his way to the ring and, miraculously, Kazarian has a rap rebuttal for him.  NBC has the classic SNL Christmas sketches on tonight.  Adam Sandler is doing the Hanukah song at the moment.  Commercial time.  Another opportunity to end a non descript match during this time to make the commercial worth sitting through. The Acclaimed have 7 AEW wins so far, that's probably more than Daniels and Kazarian have in AEW this far.  Acclaimed uses the boom box to pin Daniels.  Will anything of consequence happen tonight? Caster raps a challenge to the Young Bucks, who promptly accept for next week.

Top Flight challenges MJF and Chris Jericho for next week.

The winners of the AEW Women's Tag Team Cup, Ivilese and Diamante are up next to take on Big Swole and NWA Women's World Champion Serena Deeb.  Tony Khan makes the MJF/Jericho v Top Flight match official.  This has the distinct possibility to be good.  Deeb vs. anyone of the 3 in there would be a decent match.  Diamante with a nasty looking back elbow to Deeb and a hangman neckbreaker in quick succession.  We go to commercial.  To their credit, every break tonight during a match has been picture in picture.  This is NOT the match to try my "end a match during commercial" experiment.  You don't ever want to make a champion look "less than".

WE get 1/2 second of action before going to a plug for Scorpio Sky's new podcast...Now we're back.  I'm wondering if Abadon will come out to do something to make her more feared week by week.  Swole with the win getting Diamante to tap out to the Clearwater Cloverleaf.  The Vicious Vixens are out to attack Deeb ans Swole.  Red Velvet with the save.  Please don't let Cargill come out, please don't let Cargill come out, please don't let Cargill come out.  Not one mention of Abadon, not even a "she exists" comment.

Jurassic Express are featured on a video.  Luckily FTR is out at the booth to complain.  Double or Nothing on that George Washington that FTR takes on Jurassic Express sometime in the next 3 weeks of specials.

MAIN EVENT TIME!!!  Janela hits the ring and we go to commercial at 9:47 EST, so don't blink because this one isn't going to go long.  Tony Schiavone with the line of the night: "Kenny Omega raised Impact's viewership from 1 to 6".  Don Callis insists Schiavone give up hios headset.  Schiavone tells him off so Callis decides to do commentary on the house mic.  Omega joins him on another house mic.  He keeps beating down Janela and nails a trash can assisted moonsault.  Janela needs to to be eaten alive here.  Omega is THE tippy top guy getting his new heel act over.  Does not help him at all to sell for Joey here.  And a reverse rana by Janela, he nails a legdrop through a table.  Of course it means nothing as Omega nails 2 V Triggers and a One winged Angel for the pin less than a minute later.

Omega extolls Omega's virtues  as he celebrates and here comes the Death Triangle.  Pac issues a challenge on behalf of Rey Fenix.  The match is made official for December 30th.

That's all from Jacksonville, folk
