Kid has raised his international profile competing for AEW, Impact Wrestling and Major Wrestling Wrestling over the past couple of years. He teamed with the Lucha Brothers against Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks at Fyter Fest 2019.
While travel restrictions stemming from the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic obviously halt any immediate plans, Kid signing with New Japan could create an interesting political situation. New Japan has strong ties with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and the Best of the Super Juniors and Super Junior Tag League tournaments regularly feature stars from CMLL. Purely hypothetically speaking, Kid – a regular in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (CMLL’s biggest rival in Mexico) – might not be able to compete in tournaments or on tours alongside any talents from CMLL.
Speaking of AAA, Kid unsuccessfully challenged Omega for the AAA Mega Championship at last night’s Triplemanía XXVIII show in a great match, which you can watch below - the video is cued to the ring announcements for the bout:
Kid currently holds the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship and recently competed in MLW’s Opera Cup. He lost to ACH in the first round on the December 2 episode of Fusion.
Despite his loss in the Opera Cup, Kid appears set to make an interpromotional title defense in MLW. A post from MLW’s website last month reads: “Konnan, the co-founder of AAA, is in talks with MLW CEO Court Bauer about possibly having MLW host AAA title defenses as part of the restart.”
Kid also wrestled a tryout match for WWE in 2015. Working unmasked, he competed as Tony Guevara teaming with Sammy Guevara in a losing effort against Los Matadores.
