Jun Akiyama will face Konosuke Takeshita in the D-Oh Grand Prix final on December 27 in Korakuen Hall. It will be a rematch from Ultimate Party 2020 last month.

Takeshita won the tournament in 2018, defeating Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Go Shiozaki in the final.

New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced Karl Fredericks will miss today’s Super J-Cup show due to injury.

Kevin Knight will replace Fredericks as Ren Narita’s partner against HIKULEO and KENTA. Knight is the newest member of New Japan’s American dojo.

New Japan has also added Danny Limelight and JR Kratos versus Fred Rosser and Rocky Romero to the show.

The show, which will be All Japan’s last of the year, will be Zeus’ first match since October. He was scheduled to compete in the Real World Tag League but was forced to miss the tournament due to COVID-19.

It will also be Yusuke Okada’s last appearance under contract with the company. It was announced earlier this week he will leave All Japan at the end of December due to contract expiry. However, due to Okada’s recent booking following the departure of his personal friend Akiyama earlier this year, some have wondered if there is more to the story.

Akiyama posted a photo with Okada the day after it was announced Okada will leave All Japan.

Tomorrow’s main event will be the final preview before Kento Miyahara and Yuma Aoyagi challenge Shuji Ishikawa and SUWAMA for the World Tag Team Championships on January 2 and Aoyagi challenges SUWAMA for the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship on January 3.

In seemingly the next step towards an All Japan women’s division, Ishikawa and SUWAMA appeared at today’s Ice Ribbon show and appointed Tsukasa Fujimoto as an advisor to Evolution Girls.

Given Fujimoto’s status of booker and co-head trainer of Ice Ribbon, it could be a sign of a working agreement between the two companies. Needless to say, being able to use Ice Ribbon talents would be significantly easier than only using trainees and freelancers.
