By Oliver Taylor on 2020-12-11 13:39:00

New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling held its Best of the Super Juniors and World Tag League finals in the Nippon Budokan today.

The full results were:

• Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens and Taiji Ishimori def. SHO, Robbie Eagles and Toru Yano
• Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb and Will Ospreay vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada and Toa Henare
• SANADA and Shingo Takagi def. EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi
• Kota Ibushi and Master Wato def. BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito
• World Tag League final: Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa def. David Finlay and Juice Robinson
• Best of the Super Juniors final: Hiromu Takahashi def. El Desperado

Toru Yano tried to body slam Bad Luck Fale but was unsuccessful. Fale broke Yano’s KOPW 2020 trophy and challenged him to a body slam match.

Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb and Will Ospreay attacked Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada after the second match. The Empire specifically attacked Tanahashi’s knee and it appears Great-O-Khan and Tanahashi are on a collision course for a singles match, perhaps at Wrestle Kingdom 15 in the Tokyo Dome next month.

Kevin Kelly confirmed he will provide live English commentary from the Tokyo Dome with Chris Charlton and Rocky Romero at Wrestle Kingdom 15.

SANADA snapped on EVIL during the third match and the duo continued to brawl back to the locker room area after the bell. Shingo Takagi was left alone in the ring and was attacked by Cobb.

Charlton teased fans can expect Wrestle Kingdom 15 match announcements on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

New Japan announced it will hold its forty-ninth anniversary show in the Nippon Budokan on March 4 next year. The forty-eighth anniversary show in March was scheduled to be headlined by Hiromu Takahashi versus Tetsuya Naito but the show was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.

Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa defeated David Finlay and Juice Robinson to win the World Tag League tournament. It is Guerrillas of Destiny’s first time winning the tournament.

KENTA also returned during the match and hit Robinson with his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship challenge rights certificate briefcase.

Takahashi defeated El Desperado in the main event to win the Best of the Super Juniors tournament. After the match, he said he wants to face the winner of the Super J-Cup.

Based on today’s show, some plausible Wrestle Kingdom 15 matches are: Great-O-Khan versus Tanahashi, EVIL versus SANADA, Takagi versus Cobb for the NEVER Openweight Championship, Guerrillas of Destiny versus Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. for the IWGP Tag Team Championship, KENTA versus Robinson for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship challenge rights certificate briefcase, Takahashi versus the Super J-Cup winner (with the winner advancing to face Taiji Ishimori for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship the next night).

Speaking of, the Super J-Cup will air tomorrow. The full card is:

• Super J-Cup first round: Chris Bey vs. Clark Connors
