WILL THE UNDERTAKER RETURN AT WRESTLEMANIA 37?

The recent Survivor Series was described as ‘The Undertaker’s Final Farewell.’  That was fitting as it was 30 years ago that the character was first seen. Is it really the ‘Final Farewell’?  Professional wrestling is a world in which retirements must be taken with a pinch of salt. Could we see The Undertaker appear at WrestleMania 37 on March 28, 2021?

The man behind the character of The Undertaker is Mark Calloway.  For most of his 30-year career in WWE, he’s been one of the few professional wrestlers to protect his character. Recent years have seen that change, including this year’s excellent ‘The Last Ride’ documentary series. He’s also been interviewed twice by ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and appeared on many wrestling podcasts.

Calloway celebrates his 56th birthday four days before WrestleMania 37. We’ve heard him speak about his many injuries, so getting himself fit for another match would be a challenging task, and not one he seems to fancy at present. He’s been in that situation before, though, and returned to the ring.

Could that happen again in 2021? The odds at online bookmakers say it’s 2/1 that he will wrestle at WrestleMania 37. If you do fancy betting on what will happen, it’s important to get some advice about online gambling sites on areas such as trustworthiness, bonuses, and their content. You can find plenty of useful information at USGamblingSites.com.

After 30 years in WWE, The Undertaker deserves something better than the ‘final farewell’ we saw at the Survivor Series. He needs to be in the center of the ring at a WrestleMania, not in a Thunderdome with a virtual audience.

How can that be his ‘final farewell’ anyway? The Undertaker will inevitably be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame; how can he not be?  He could easily be added to the list of inductees for 2021, and that would include an appearance at WrestleMania 37. No need to wrestle; just come out to a massive cheer. That may happen but whether he’d wrestle is another matter altogether.

It looked as if the career of The Undertaker had ended at WrestleMania 33 three years ago. After a loss to Roman Reigns, he left his hat, gloves, and coat in the center of the ring. Then he broke character and hugged his wife, Michelle McCool. All signs of retirement, but he was back again the following year. He hated his performance against Reigns, which wasn’t how he wanted his career to end.

He returned at WrestleMania 34 for an unsatisfactory match against John Cena. All that time spent getting fit, and he was given a three-minute squash match. That desire to have one last great performance at WrestleMania led to his return this year.

He took on AJ Styles in a cinematic match but in his ‘American Badass’ character. Calloway was satisfied with that match, and as his character rode off into the distance on his motorbike, it seemed a good way to end. Within weeks, his retirement was announced.

As with any retirement in wrestling, there are plenty who believe The Undertaker will return. WWE boss Vince McMahon regularly tempts his prized wrestler back into the ring as the company struggles to create new headliners. The word is that McMahon isn’t going to ask for the Deadman to wrestle at WrestleMania 37.

If the ratings continue to struggle and there’s the chance of a paying audience at WrestleMania 37, that may well change. The possibility of another ‘final farewell’ on the grandest stage of all cannot be ruled out.

Is there an opponent who could tempt him to have another WrestleMania match?  In recent interviews, Calloway has said that it would have to be a “really juicy” match for him to consider performing at another WrestleMania.

However, in the week leading up to that ‘Final Farewell,’ he spoke about wanting to meet ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt. Now that is a feud that could tempt the Undertaker back into the ring, and one the fans would love to see. A cinematic match is a possibility, similar to the one ‘The Fiend’ had with John Cena at this year’s WrestleMania.

Calloway has said he won’t completely retire from wrestling. Becoming a trainer definitely appeals to him. He could be a manager, too; fans won’t tire of his memorable ring entrance even if he’s not going to wrestle.  One more match at WrestleMania looks doubtful, but in wrestling, it’s hard to predict this pre-determined sport.
