MIKE TYSON RETURNS TO THE RING AND...

By Mike Johnson on 2020-11-29 00:38:00

WWE Hall of Famer Mike Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr., returning to the boxing ring for the first time in 15 years.

Tyson and Jones went the distance, fighting for eight rounds, two minutes each.  One would argue that Mike Tyson looked stronger during the exhibition fight, but WBC judges ruled the match a draw.  The result does not go on their respective records.

It was obvious that Tyson was easily ready to go longer and said he would be fighting again.  Jones was less confident in returning to the ring afterward.    Tyson said he would love to continue to fight on an exhibition level, saying they were doing it to help others and do it for humanitarian reasons.  Part of the proceeds of tonight's event were going to a charity that assisted older boxers who needed financial assistance.

Former WWE announcer Mauro Ranallo led the announcing team, at times (t would appear) rubbing legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard the wrong way.  During the main event, Ranallo asked Leonard if he would be willing to return to fight and Leonard responded he would if he could fight Ranallo.

Tyson's fellow WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg was in many ways the MVP of the entertainment portion of the PPV, performing a series of hits before the main event and dropping some truly funny lines during his commentary of the final two bouts of the evening.  At one point, when Logan Paul and Nate Robinson scuffled in the ring ring during their fight, Ranallo joked to Snoop that his cousin Sasha Banks was enjoying the wrestling with Dogg retorting she might get Robinson a WWE contract.
