BREAKING DOWN THE ODDS OF SURVIVAL AT THE WWE SURVIVOR SERIES

By Mike Johnson on 2020-11-18 00:07:00

This Sunday, WWE will present the 2020 Survivor Series, once again showcasing the latest chapter in brand supremacy between Raw and Smackdown.  With last year’s Series victors, WWE NXT, not competing this year, once again, the champions and stars of the Red and Blue brands will face off in the pro wrestling equivalent of Marvel’s Secret Wars.

Here is a rundown of what to expect from one of the biggest PPV broadcast of the year, complete with the latest odds from SportsBettingDime.com:

Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre - Opening Odds: Reigns -200 vs McIntyre +150

Roman Reigns has been a force of nature since ascending to the top of the Smackdown brand, being named the “head of the table.”  However, even with Paul Heyman leading him to the ring, even Reigns and his new attitude may be hard pressed to turn back the momentum of the new WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.  The Scottish star has shown incredible intensity and heart in recent weeks.  While Roman easily scored the win against McIntyre back at Wrestlemania 35, their placement in the hearts of the fans have easily switched and if anyone can shock Reigns and score a major win, it’s going to be Drew,

Asuka vs Sasha Banks Opening odds: Asuka +120 vs Banks -160

Hot off her debut on Star Wars’ The Mandalorian, Sasha Banks has never received more mainstream attention than she has this past week.  While the Raw Women’s Champion Asuka is a bonafide legend in Japan and one of the most dangerous strikers in WWE, Banks is in the midst of her hottest run to date on the WWE main roster.  It may come down to a battle of the strongest submission, The Asuka Lock vs. The Bank Statement.  While the first competitor to snatch the other could tell the tale of the final winner, don’t doubt Banks’ versatility.

The New Day vs The Street Profits Opening odds: The New Day -120 vs The Street Profits -120

In a rare battle of two of the most popular teams in modern day WWE, it’s going to be a close call and neither can claim the home field advantage inside the Thunderdome.  Each team is well known for great double-team maneuvers and for having great heart and fighting spirit.  If there is one potential factor to set one tandem apart from the other, it is experience, something that gives Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods a great edge over The Profits.  If Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are going to bring the win for the Smackdown side, they’ll have to solve the riddle that few teams ever have - how to neutralize The New Day.

Bobby Lashley vs. Sami Zayn Opening Odds: Lashley -325 vs +215

The reigning United States Champion Lashley has the Hurt Business and a long resume of battered opponents in professional wrestling and MMA alike.   At first glance, Lashley seems to be the easy favorite.  However, Zayn should never be overlooked.  After all, he’s the one with the pinfall victory over The Monster Among Men, Braun Strowman.  If Zayn can use his skills to thwart Lashley’s brutality and striking, he may be able to score the upset, but that window of opportunity will quickly close, strike by strike.

5-on-5 Women’s Survivor Series Elimination Match Opening Odds: Team Raw +130 vs Team SmackDown -170

Team Raw seems to easily have the edge here, especially with Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce joining the team.  With WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax heading up Team Raw, the odds are easily on the side of these powerhouse brawlers.  Team Smackdown, just days away from Survivor Series, still has yet to name its complete team, leaving just a scant few days to strategize and get on the same page.  This one seems to be a foregone conclusion for the Raw brand, even if Lana is left smashed through a table...

5-on-5 Men’s Survivor Series Elimination Match Opening odds; Team Raw -180 vs Team SmackDown +140

AJ Styles has claimed to be the captain of his Raw team, but no one, not Riddle, Braun Strowman, Keith Lee or Sheamus seem to want to acquiesce to Styles’ wishes.  While the Raw team is a hell of a collection of talent, they are hardly the type of united front a super-team needs to be to ascend all the way to victory.  Smackdown, however, seems to be far more prepared to step into battle, even despite the past issues between long-time rivals Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens.  The blue brand’s assembled avengers easily hold the psychological edge, especially given the new edge Jey Uso has brought to his game in recent weeks since coming under Romen Reigns’ wing.  The true enigma for the Smackdown brand may be King Corbin, an antagonist who’s pattern has been to upset everyone in his orbit.  If he can focus on the Raw team and not his own, Smackdown may have this in the bag.

WWE Survivor Series will emanate from The Thunderdome this Sunday...who will survive?
