MCW in Maryland sadly announced this morning that RJ Meyer, who had trained with the company and competed there as a main event performer, has passed away following a long battle with leukemia:
With a heavy heart the MCW family sends its condolences to the family and friends of RJ Meyer, better known as The Bruiser.

The phrase “once in a lifetime” is thrown around a lot. In the case of The Bruiser, there will only be one. Ever.#BruiserStrong Forever pic.twitter.com/d3bab5CZDO
Meyer broke into the business, trained in 1997 by Dan McDevitt and the late Axl Rotten. He was truly a Maryland original and was a central figure for McDevitt's MCW promotion, where he was a ten-time MCW Champion and also held the Rage TV and Tag Ream Championship. Meyer had been nicknamed the Mayor of MCW and in recent years, had worked as a trainer for the promotion's school, helping the break in names like The Velveteen Dream and Lio Rush, among others.
Meyer had been diagnosed in July 2019 with the local community working to assist him. To say this is a massive loss to the Maryland wrestling scene would be a huge understatement.
PWInsider.com sends out deepest condolences to Meyer's family and friends.
