COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Anthony Pires on 2020-11-11 20:37:00

Tony Khan promised us the balance of wrestling will change tonight.  For the sake of his bravado, I hope he's right because history tells us that if you make promises like that and don't deliver, then the masses (what consists of the masses, anyway) won't believe you next time.  We are live form Daily's Place in Jacksonville and a new introduction welcomes us.  There's an Anna Jay section. She joined Dark Order.  You should too.

We're joined by Team Taz and, to my non-surprise, Taz isn't happy.  He immediately points out Darby Allin in the rafters.  Taz warns the new TNT Champion not to get in the ring tonight, which pretty much guarantees he will.  Brian Cage vs. Matt Sydal kicks us off and I'm impressed that Taz DOESN'T run down Sydal.  He actually gave Sydal props, which means that if Cage is victorious, he's beaten someone, not some bum we shouldn't care about.  Taz joins JR, Tony and Excalibur at the desk.  This is so much better for Matt than feuding with Michael Nakazawa over baby oil.  Cage is what I'd envision a pro wreslter to look like.   Sydal is taking a beating thus far.  Taz on commentary is becoming more entertaining than Jericho's guest spots lately.  He's not bombastic for the sake of being bombastic.  He does a great job of calling the little things in his unique character.

The veteran Sydal is firing back, he's weathered the early onslaught and is scoring with some beautiful leg kicks.  This wasn't announced as an FTW title bout and although it's not an "official" title, a win here by Sydal would add some oomph to a rematch.  Cage with a huge lariat but Sydal comes oh so close to a pin off of a hurancanrana.  Drill Claw out of mid air and Cage gets the win.  THAT counter off of a Sydal moonsault attempt was amazing.  Match was exactly what it needed to be.  Ricky Starks makes Team Taz' intentions to win the TNT Championship known.  I was wrong, there was no Darby Allin run in.

We are joined by 2x former TNT champion Cody Rhodes.  This should be interesting to see how he addresses losing the title.  He immediately congratulates Darby Allin.  To my surprise, Cody announces he will not be seeking a rematch.  He wants MJF.  All of a sudden, a mysterious woman named Jade Cargill shows up and declares herself The Total Package.  She makes jokes about Cody not being a giant.  apparently, she knows a giant and will be unleashing them should Cody ever refer to himself as a Giant Killer again.  She sarcastically congratulates Cody on getting his name back.  Apparently the giant she's referring to is Shaquile O'Neal.  Brandi comes out and gets in Cargill's face.  A war of words ensues.

Now Brian Cage and Ricky Starks come out to attack Cody, Darby Allin makes the save with his thumbtack jacket and Team Taz gets run off.  So we're apparently getting Shaquille O'Neal vs. Cody.

Look, maybe I'm jaded, but wouldn't there be someone else best served by working with Shaq besides the EVP of the company, maybe a Brian Cage when 170lb Darby Allin isn't running him off.  Maybe Lance Archer, who the national media would eat up with the legendary Jake Roberts at his side.  And on top of that all, we get Jade Cargill.  OK.  I hope this isn't the "balance of power" thing referenced.

We get Alex Marvez with Jon Moxley, who comments on new number one contender Kenny Omega.  Pretty standard stuff.  Marvez gets through an entire interview without it getting interrupted.  That match takes place Dec 2.

Butcher and Blade, in Cory Strode approved attire, come out with the Bunny.  Bunkhouse match time against Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall.  There is a red carpet around ringside for some reason.  Facebuster on a chair by Dustin to the Butcher. That, folks, had to hurt.  We got bales of hay at ringside and a guitar.  And QT is bleeding a gusher as Dustin gets handcuffed to the top rope as we go to commercial.

Bunny I think took a pair of scissors and raked them over QT's head. Butcher is keeping the smock on, which seems like a good idea the way Marshall is bleeding.  Bunny continues to rake away at QT's head as a hay bale gets thrown on Marshall.  Somehow Dustin got free and goes to work with a ladder. Not just ringside but the entire area is decked out in bunkhouse decoration.  Dustin bulldogs The Butcher through a floor and now the Blade is bleeding, so now 2 guys in a COVID world are in close proximity while cut wide open.  Blade is bleeding a gusher.  Chairs and trash cans galore.  Marshall with a big elbow for 2 off a 15 foot ladder.

Make no mistake, this is a really good brawl, which The Natural Nightmares just won.  Nowadays I am just not comfortable, knowing what we know, about illness, with 2 guys bleeding all over each other.

Matt Hardy, regular Matt Hardy, with some words for Sammy Guevara, flat out telling him not to squander the opportunity being in the ring with a legend like Matt has afforded him.

Induction Time!  Chris Jericho and his theme some come out to induct the newest member of the Circle.  Jericho seems happy as the crowd sings along.  I can'tn help but think MJF should get his music going during this to get over how big a heel he can be.  The rest of the Inner Circle comes out and they're 50/50 on this at best.  Turns out Sammy isn't out with them, that doesn't stop Le Champion from bringing out MJF and Wardlow.  MJF cries tears of joy and sentimentality over this historic moment.  Channeling Lanny Poffo, MJF has a poem for us all.  Turns out, MJF plagiarized Drake.   Looks like Ortiz is still not happy.

Undeterred, MJF wants to celebrate Jericho's birthday as balloons propel from the ceiling.  It must be very windy in J-Ville.  They're going to Vegas next week. That was underwhelming to say the very least.  This will continue....

Still waiting for the balance of power shift as the Young Bucks AEW Tag Team Title win over FTR is highlighted. amazing how many classic tag teams those two squads channeled on Saturday.  Alex Marvez is with the Bucks and quite nervous about getting kicked again.  Next week, Top Flight will get their shot at the Bucks.

Shawn Spears with Tully Blanchard take on Scorpio Sky next.  Glad to see Spears getting some prime time coverage on Dynamite.  His work on Dark has been dominant over the last 4-5 months, but unless you're doing it on the main show, it's not going to get its proper notice.  The time is rapidly coming for AEW to make a decision on Scorpio Sky. His pushes aren't hot and cold so much as they're Arctic Journey or Saharan Adventure.  They need to commit to something on him.  He seems to be disaffiliated with SCU, he gets no mic time and even less spotlight opportunities.  As if to illustrate my point, we're told that Sky has 28 AEW victories, third behind Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes.  Tully Blanchard with a masterful managerial job placing the steel slug in the corner while distracting Sky by throwing him something, allowing Spears to knock out Sky and get the pin.

Alex Marvez catches up to Kenny Omega in the parking lot.  Omega is ready to resume his responsibility as the greatest wrestler in the world.

Tay Conti with Anna Jay against Red Velvet with Brandi Rhodes.  Conti has serious presence to her, I'll always be surprised that WWE could see what she brought: athletic, skilled, charismatic and, let's face it, she looks like Tay Conti.  At this point, I'm not sure where the Anna Jay- Brandi Rhodes issue stands.  We're at picture in picture, not restaurant quality this time, apparently.  The odd thing I thought was that Jay made no reference to the Dark Order and the announcers haven't said anything about it as of yet.

We're back and we've got a very competitive match here.  Good showcase.  Conti isn't and shouldn't be pushed as dominant.  Velvet, getting a lot of offense in, is looking solid as well.  Anna Jay slips Conti and chair and Tay kicked it out.  Big knee strike by Conti gets the win.  My opinion: best outing both women have had in AEW.  Dark Order begins to come out but strangely holds back.  Announcers bring up the faction.  Interesting new development.

Apparently Sammy Guevara got an e-mail telling him to be at the beach for the induction ceremony.

Kip Sabian vs. Orange Cassidy next week.

Eddie Kingston does NOT want you chanting his name.  As expected, Kingston takes his loss on Saturday with dignity and that he will be world champion someday.  Penta El Zero vs Rey Fenix, our main event, is next.

Eddie Kingston joins the booth.  If I become President, Kingston will be my press secretary.  Second time for these two in a matter of weeks.  They're two of the  most revered in the game worldwide right now.  I guess my question here is why is this match, a relatively cold one with little issue, main eventing the show.  We have very little time for this and a post match angle for a major surprise.  Penta basically tears 1/2 of Fenix' mask off.  Eddie seems unconcerned by any potential dissention.

The announcers are going hard after Kingston over the brothers fighting.  And now Pentas mask is torn in half.  Eddie is clearly favoring his best friend Penta here.  It's odd watching 2 masked wrestlers wrestling with their masks torn. Package piledriver on the apron by Penta.  I just don;t need to see that. This won't be worth it in 5-10 years.  Penta with another package piledriver for the pin.

Eddie comes out and dismisses Fenix and tells Penta he doesn't need anyone else.  Pac returns and tells Kingston that he made a big mistake.  Not sure exactly what the mistake was.  Pac vs. The Blade next week.  The Lucha Bros seem to not be taking sides here as we go off the air.  I really hope Pac's return wasn't the balance shifting we heard about.
