Northeast Wrestling "NEW Studio Wars: Episode 1"
Taped in Rhode Island.
Available Now at www.HighspotsWrestlingNetwork.com
NEW is having their 25-year anniversary in 2020. This is a pre-taped show with no crowd, minimal staff and a 3-man booth. Paul Crockett, Matt Taven, Jon Roy are your commentary team. This is episode one of Northeast Wrestling's STUDIO WARS - A new weekly Program that just debuted on the Highspots Wrestling Network.
Match 1: "Top Talent" Christian Casanova (c) vs Elia "The Great" Markopoulos (for the Northeast Wrestling Live Championship)
Ref Kevin Quinn hands out the hand sanitizer before they start. Hell Yeah. Brief feeling out between two guys who know each other well. Casanova with arm drags, a dropkick, and a springboard clothesline. Elia catches an up and over into a snake eyes and big boot for two. Wheelbarrow launch out the corner Casanova trying to recover in. Markopoulos taking control with a few near falls, close fall off a TKO Stunner and spear. Elia misses a powerslam attempt, setting him up for a Scissor kick for the three count.
Winner: Christian Casanova
I've seen these two go before, this was a solid opener. Casanova didn't NEED to showboat hard in this contest, he can save that for an eventual main event. On the mic, Casanova says he doesn't see anyone in NEW taking the Live Championship from him...but they are welcome to try. We get a quick montage of the stars of wrestling who have made and appearance in NEW, alongside the rising stars on the NEW roster.
Match 2: The Haven (Shawn Knyte & Jay Onyx) vs The Graysons (Tommy & JP w/ Jared Silberkleit)
The Graysons seem to have gone heel since I last saw them, now under the wing of the OBVIOUS SLEAZE Silberkleit. JP can't hang with Knyte and complains to the ref about false cheating. Tommy in and stomps out Knyte but falls victim to some double teaming from the Haven. JP wants to cut it off but he's sent to the outside. Silberkleit gives his boys a pep talk, and inserts himself into the match as a distraction to allow the Graysons to take a few cheap shots. Onyx looking for the tag while the Graysons tag in and out, geting prolonged heat on Knyte. Jay Onyx with the tag finally and cleans house. Double senton on Tommy for a two count. Haven setting up for the finish, Silberkleit distracts the ref, allowing the Tommy to roll up Shawn Knyte with a handful of tights.
Winners: The Graysons
While the Haven are a young team, it was really surprising how little ring time Jay Oynx had in this match, taggin out almost immediately every time he made it in. I have to boo the Graysons now? Alright, noted.
We get a promo video for Thrillride, who will return to NEW on next week's episode.
Match 3: "The Natural" Channing Thomas vs "The Super Fly Guy" Traevon Jordan (w/ Jaylen Brandyn)
The debuting Channing Thomas takes on the bigger half of "Waves & Curls". Thomas wants no dancing, while Jordan flosses. We go right to a tie up and they struggle for position. Traevon might be looking for a dance partner but Thomas ain't having that. Jordan with a big shoulder tackle and drags Thomas to the mat. Channing trying to fight back but Jordan is all over his opponent. Jordan with an up and over and Thomas uppercuts him out of the air. Body slam for two. Knee drop for another near fall. Thomas going to the well on that knee drop and Jordan evades. Slingshot schoolboy for two and Traevon with a sidewalk slam for another close call. Thomas with an O'Connor roll and tries to grab the tights. Jordan rolls through and hits a leg lariat that keeps Channing Thomas down.
Winner: Traevon Jordan
Kind of an upset win here as this was Jordan's debut as a singles competitor. I thought for sure Channing Thomas would find a way to steal this. Entertaining match. We get a promo video of a previous NEW show in front of fans. Remember going to wrestling shows??? :sob: Anyways, this show had Matt Riddle, Mick Foley and Rey Mysterio on it. NEW gets a LOT of big name talent. You can see the shows at www.HighspotsWrestlingNetwork.com.
Jon Roy conducting an interview with one half of NEW's tag champs, RJ Rude. His partner is unavailable due to...well, the TIMES BEING WHAT THEY ARE. He says that when his partner is back, they will be ready to defend their championships again. Enter Jared Silberkleit, who stands up The Graysons as their next challenge. But since RJ doesn't have a partner...next week, he can take on JP Grayson in a singles contest. I'm SURE it will be fair and square.
Main Event: "The American Sumo" Mike Gamble vs Wrecking Ball Legursky
So I have HEARD of Legursky but this is my first look at him. We get a promo video showing the history of the feud between these two competitors. Commentary gives props to Gamble for losing 120lbs...dude is still huge. oh wait...Legursky is.....wow, ok. Instant Bam Bam Bigelow vibes, both in stature and in outfit. Gamble went from being the big dude to a way smaller dude the moment Legursky enters the ring. From the bell, we get these guys testing each other. Sumo WANTS this fight, as he batters his larger opponent from corner to corner...until Wrecking Ball does an up and over and flying crossbody for two. Sumo eating chops and dishing plenty of his own. Legursky caught running into an atomic drop and a dropkick from Gamble for two. Sumo comes running and eats a big boot and elbow drop for a close two. Trading chops until Legursky lands some heatbutts and a slam. Running headbutt misses but Sumo caught running with a jumping earthquake style corner senton. Wrecking Ball with the running headbutt....Sumo kicks out! Avalache dives to the corner, samoan drop to Legursky and the big(ger) man kicks out. Sumo with a leg drop. kick out! More chops, Sumo's chest looking a little hamburger. Sumo comes in for the kill but Wrecking Ball hits a huge spinebuster for the pin.
Winner: Wrecking Ball Legursky
So yeah, this was good. Big bull fight main event. Both guys throwing heavy artillery the whole time. Sumo wanted this win but Wrecking Ball was way too much to handle. My kind of s***.
At 53 minutes in length, this show flew. 3 solid opening bouts and a good main event. Really reminded me of a Saturday Morning Wrestling Show in a very good way. I look forward to...Next Week: RJ Rude vs JP Grayson, The return of Thrillride, Big Bacon Brad Hollister, Chris Battle vs Richard Holliday is your main event. Until then!
