CODY RHODES LIVES AGAIN

Before his TNT Championship match against Darby Allin, Cody was officially announced as "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes for the first time in All Elite Wrestling history.  Although Rhodes said several days ago that he expected to use the surname mostly outside of professional wrestling, PWInsider.com has confirmed that he will be using the full Cody Rhodes name going forward in AEW.

Last week, Cody expressly abandoned trademark applications he had filed for 'Slamboree' and 'The Match Beyond' with prejudice (meaning he could not return and attempt to claim the rights to them down the line)  with WWE accepting and dropped their opposition for each trademark.   Cody also abandoned trademark applications for 'Superbrawl', 'Bunkhouse Stampede', and 'Battlebowl' on 10/30.   Those were never opposed by WWE and had already passed the opposition phase.   

The same week, WWE abandoned their claim to the "Cody Rhodes" trademark and were assigned trademarks on the five aforementioned terms that Cody dropped his claims to.  While Rhodes declined to go into details on the situation during a recent media call, it would seem Cody and WWE came to some sort of agreement that allowed each other access to the trademarks they wanted.

Cody had been unable to use the Rhodes surname since he had never utilized it before being signed by WWE, which meant that despite his father and brother using the ring name previously, the company had claimed the name "Cody Rhodes" as their original intellectual property.  One could argue that due to his family's usage of the Rhodes surname dating back to the late 1960s, it was unfair for WWE to block the use of it to begin with, but now, it's a moot point as Cody Rhodes, the wrestling name, lives again.
