CHRIS DICKINSON TALKS, WHO THE ORIGINAL UWN CHAMPION WAS SCHEDULED TO BE IN 2014 AND MORE UNITED WRESTLING NETWORK NOTES

By Mike Johnson on 2020-10-29 12:16:00

The United Wrestling Network released a new interview with Chris Dickinson:

Dickinson has to be considered one of the frontrunners for the UWN Title Tournament.  UWN promoter Dave Marquez has noted the title tournament is eight years in the making, which is 100% the truth.  The promotion has run through a number of plans over the years to crown their first champion, with the idea that the UWN Champ would be something of a modern day version of the traveling NWA Champion, going to the different "Championship Wrestling From..." promotions that are under the UWN banner, but every time they came to terms and made plans to have their first champion, that person would end up getting an offer from WWE or another high-profile promotion.  The original champion had been envisioned years ago to be Prince Devitt, but he received a WWE offer in 2014, ending those plans.  Others who were planned at different points to be the first champion include Drew Gulak, Karl Anderson and Shinsuke Nakamura, among others.

The UWN Championship side plates were created by artist Rob Shamberger, one depicting Harley Race and Ric Flair.  "Race and Flair are synonymous with the dawn of great televised pro wrestling, and are widely considered two of the greatest and most respected World Champions of all time," Dave Marquez told PWInsider.com.  "They should be the measuring stick for anyone seeking to hold the UWN World Title "  The other plate displays Shamberg's depiction of Colt Cabana locking in the Billy Goat's Curse on Adam Pearce with the idea that their "Seven Levels of Hate" feud represents the origins of the UWN as a TV entity as well as the best feud in the history of UWN's Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.  That feud was chronicled by Pearce as a documentary in 2013.

Heather Monroe has been announced for this Tuesday's UWN PPV.

The latest edition of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, which has greatly tightened up its week to week storytelling since returning from a pandemic imposed hiatus, is now online:
