1st time I met Tracy I was 14 and he was 19...at the Nashville Fairgrounds and he was getting trained by Tojo Yamamoto and I was allowed to watch the training sessions every Sunday...
Great talent and even better human being!#HighFive#HotterThanPopcorn

Tracy Smothers was a total sweetheart every time we crossed paths. Which is amusing, because he *LOVED* being the bad guy.

“You staying busy, maaaan? Doing well? Good good good. I like to hear that, brother.”
My heart goes out to his friends, and family. ??#RIPTracySmothers pic.twitter.com/pqSzA48MUi
RIP Tracy Smothers. You were ALWAYS willing to help ANYONE & EVERYONE. Loved to laugh and stir things up. I remember numerous times he’d watch my match and offer advice. An all around great guy. Sad day for sure. #HoldMyWatch pic.twitter.com/EYnpwluD3i

Sorry to hear about Tracy Smothers. He was a great worker and maybe an even better person. Enjoyed working with him and Steve Armstrong as the "wild eyed southern boys" He will be missed and sadly gone much to young! pic.twitter.com/nRaNxFqTpD

Another member of the wrestling community gone. RIP Tracy Smothers. Never heard a bad word about him. I toured Ireland with him in 2007 & was struck by how, even after so many years in the game, he was just so down to HAVE FUN wrestling. We’re better for having had time with him.

My heart is broken. I loved Tracy Smothers very much. I met Tracy on a one-off show in Wisconsin when I was 19, shared a locker room with him regularly when I was 21, and had the privilege to step in the ring with him a number of times. He was always selfless and kindhearted.

It had been such a difficult year for him yet every time we spoke he was funny, caring, and determined to kick out. I feel SO fortunate to have talked with Tracy so much in just the last few weeks- memories that will last a lifetime. I loved that man.

I could type and type and my words still wouldn’t adequately describe how great of a man Tracy Smothers was. My mentor. My friend.
— Chris Hero (Is Back) (@ChrisHero) October 28, 2020

I was lucky to be on shows with him from a young age and even luckier to have him as a friend.
His wild-eyed spirit lives on in rasslers like me and @eddiekingston81. We will make him proud tonight. @AEWonTNT pic.twitter.com/fOvl7jFUYl
Al Snow - "I am at a loss for words and am heartbroken by the loss of such a wonderful , kind truly good man who was and always will be my friend and brother in Wrestling Tracy Smothers. Make no mistake the world and the wrestling business itself will be less for your loss my friend. I will always miss you and will never forget you."
Stevie Richards paid tribute to Smothers on his podcast, noting, "Tracy Smothers recently left us after a long health battle. The world is a much less kind and generous place without him. Life is short. Use every single day to try your best, be kind and help others."
Bill Apter paid tribute to Smothers:
Scott D'Amore: "Absolutely gutted to learn that Tracy Smothers has lost his battle with cancer. A fighter to the end it was just hard to believe he was ever going to go down for the count. Somebody who I watched on TV when I was growing up. Somebody who lifted me up when I was at my lowest and considering quitting the business. Somebody who always could put a smile on your face and raise your spirits. Someone who always had time and support for younger talent. If more veteran talent was like Tracy we’d be a much better business and a much better world in general. Wild Eyed Southern Boy, Young Pistol, Thug, and Full Blooded Italian. You used to end your promos by saying "Everybody dies” but none of us were ready for you to be taken so soon.
T is for Terrible
H is for Hell
U is for Ugly
G is for Jail
Cuz a Thug can’t spell!
RIP to a true legend, a treasure in our sport, and a dear friend."
Mike "Nova" Bucci - "I'm too numb right now to put anything on here of substance but I'll just say that Tracy Smothers was my wrestling dad. A little piece of me died today when he passed away. I'll love that man forever. RIP Tracy Smothers"
Suge D - "Tracy gone? Like I know he wasn't meant to be forever, but.... that don't make this hurt any less. At all. Every indie I'd see him at as years went, he'd be shocked I wasn't signed yet. Even when I didn't always believe him, HE BELIEVED IT. i'm glad we made all the time in the world to laugh, joke, and catch that learning tree knowledge at Next Generation Wrestling: Tennessee last year. It's the kind of conversation you'd have with somebody if you knew you'd never get another. And how true that is. You put a lot of love on a lot of people. We were all your kids. You lifted people up even if you didn't always have the strength in you; somehow you found it. They throw around the word legend, but you lived it. I'll miss you dearly. I'll do right by you. The next time I see you, when it's my time, I hope I can tell you that, "Yeah, it happened. You called it first." #WatchTheBackfist Bless Up Tracy. "
Gangrel - "God speed my friend! High five, that's all I got brother! I will miss hearing them words , the world lost a good man ! RIP Tracy Smothers love ya!"
Danny Doring - "I dont what to say thats different from what Ive read in most posts. Tracy Smothers was to the entire young ECW locker room a Godsend. He unselfishly trained us everyday for hours before doors opened. He mentored us outside the ring as well. Helping give us advice on how to handle the lifestyle. Not many of these passings phase me at this point sadly but this one hurts my heart . I hope the Bear is getting his rematch in the big one in the sky.
"Whats your deal man? Youve changed man"
" Yall think Yall know ,but Yall have no idea, and I swear Yall aint booking"
