LIVE, ONGOING AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Anthony Pires on 2020-10-21 20:05:00

My apologies to one and all for missing Dark this week.  I believe it may still be ongoing if it interests you.

We are LIVE from Dailey's place for round 1 of the title contender elimination tournament.  Your announcers are Tony Schiavone, Excalibur and Jim Ross.  Sonny Kiss, the major pushed contender that he is, replaces Joey Janela against Kenny Omega in the title eliminator tournament.  We're kicking this off with Wardlow against Jungle Boy Jack Perry.  One thing that AEW does that I generally appreciate is that when a guy comes out for a big match and he's in a faction, the faction comes out BUT doesn't necessarily go to the ring.  Size difference here is pretty significant but Perry is on his way to being a huge star and Wardlow has a touch of inexperience that'll hurt him in the long run of this tournament.  Look, the right move here, 100%, is for Wardlow to win this thing at this stage in their AEW runs. Perry needs only to look good here.

While not directly at ringside, Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt are in the audience amongst the other wrestlers.  We're notified that Dr. Britt Baker has given her best friend Tony notes to read when she wrestles tonight.  Perry counters the choke slam into a high knee by Wardlow, which has spelled doom for Wardlow's opponents on Dark.  Mrs. Pires was a huge Dylan McKay fan, so she has a vested interest here.  Jungle Boy reverses a DVD off the second rope into a rana.  Give Wardlow as much credit for taking that move so well. Wardlow nails an F10 from the ramp into the ring, follows up with another for the pin.  Dare I say it: this match could not have been worked better.  The rising star got enough hope spots in to look like a star but the monster did what he needed to do to put it away.

Le Dinner Debonaie with MJF and Chris Jericho is tonigght.  I think the Post Game Party should do this as well.  Penta El Zero and Rey Fenix square off tonight.  I hope Cory is mentally prepared.  Footage from last week after we went off the air had Eddie Kingston cutting a serious, all out promo on a prone Jon Moxley.  No description of Kingston's greatness can do it justice.

JUST ANNOUNCED: Eddie Kingston v Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear in an I Quit Match for the AEW World Championship.  YES PLEASE!

Some words from our AEW champion about Kingston.  Moxley comes off better in the pre packaged interviews BUT he referenced getting his belt back.  Are they doing another angle where the heel stole the belt?

If we needed any evidence that Kenny Omega is going full on heel, simply listen to Justin Roberts' into, where his multiple awards and star ratings are brought up.  And now he has dancing girls cheerleading him before he comes out.  Omega DOES show some respect to Sonny Kiss.  By the time I wrote that last sentence, Omega put this away with a V Trigger and an OWA.  This'll get 6 1/3 stars easily.

Tony Schiavone catches up with Orange Cassidy, who channels his best Bill Belichick by telling Tony that we're on to Cincinnati.  Outside Dailey's Place, Cody and Arn Anderson arrive and kinda, sorta brags about being AEW's Giant Killer.

The Penta v Fenix graphic comes up.  This should be insane.

BTW I was dealing with some family issues over the last few days and wasn't able to write up a UWN Blog last night.  I highly HIGHLY recommend you check out last night's episode.  JR Kratos vs. Mike Bennett was off the charts excellent.

Before we go to action, we get some pre-recorded comments form Eddie Kingston.  Apparently, Allie is back to being The Bunny. No explanation, no vicious attack on QT Marshall.  Anyway. Eddie doesn't think Moxley can go to that place he needs to go to in order to make him quit.

Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero makes their entrances separately.  Eddie Kingston joins the booth, thrilled at the prospect of one day soon facing one of these 2 after he wins the AEW World Title.  The early story here is that these two know each other so well that they know EXACTLY what the other is going to do before they even do it.  They exchange chops.  I know New Japan can't get through a card with at least 3 matches featuring this, but I will Never ever ever comprehend why you'd stand there and let your opponent chop away at you. Never understood it.  Great choreography here as we go to picture in picture.  Thank you AEW and TNT for the way you now handle commercials.

We're back and the announcers are plugging Dark and flashing results.  This alone should cover the next 45 minutes.  They're definitely playing this up as Penta being the favorite and Fenix being the little brother underdog.  Penta hits a backdrop into a powerbomb and only gets 2.  Fenix with a Canadian Destroyer and, believe it or not, he scores the pin.  You never see that as a finisher here nowadays.

We get some "highlights" of the new feud between the Best Friends and Miro & Kip Sabian over the accidental destruction of a video game named "Alan".  Okaaaayyyy.

John Silver and Alex Reynold are in the back with Colt Cabana.  The Mighty Dark Order has a golden opportunity to come out of Full Gear with major AEW Gold if Colt can win the tou....I'm sorry, that was ridiculous to even try to write.  And as much as I love my Dark Order, Silver is quickly becoming a comedy character, completely out of the vein of what The Dark Order is supposed to be.

Hangman Page v Cabana is next.  I predict this will go longer than Omega v Kiss.  I win as we're past the 13 second mark.  Page might be too giving here.  It's becoming an unfortunate hallmark of his new singles run. I really like Cabana, I honestly do, but there's a pecking order being followed here.  No one on planet Earth, not even Colt's close friends and family, thinks he has a snowballs chance in hell here.  The picture in picture in this case should either be Omega coming out to "congratulate" Page on a dominant win OR the members of the Dark Order berating Colt for losing.

Back from commercial and Colt is making his comeback, almost gets the 3.  Colt is dominating the heck out of Page now.  Superman splash only gets a 2.  Page with a nice fake out and nails the Buckshot Lariat for the pin.  Interestingly, the Dark Order run out to help Cabana to the back, as opposed to berating him.  Orders from the Exalted One?

We get a tease of an 11/17/20 tease of Sammy Guevara vs. Matt Hardy at the Hardy Compound.

Taz is back with 2 problems: Will Hobbs has yet to answer Taz' most generous invitation to join Team Taz,  Second problem is Darby Allin getting a TNT Title shot.  Starks points out that he shows up, shows out and shows off better than anyone.  Starks promises Darby Allin will suffer at his hands.

IT'S DINNER TIME.  MJF orders his steak well done, Jericho orders his medium-well.  This seems to be a machismo contest until Jericho brings his order all the way down to his steak being cooked blue.  After arguing they....sing.  Oh my god this was planned.  They're doing a lounge lizard act.  It won't stop.  They're dancing.  Please make this stop.  Please.  I'll pay you.  And now they're doing an encore.  Am I seriously watching this?  And now they're back to dinner and don't like their steaks.

If what I just saw happened on Monday or Friday, Vince McMahon would be burning at the stake right now.   The Pope, and I don't mean the new NWA TV champion, would light the fire.

For a few minutes I was beginning to worry that Uncle Cory and I would have nothing to talk about.

Dr. Britt Baker with Reba comes out.  Tony Schiavone begins reading off his notes.  She's wearing pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month.  KiLynn King, who has some decent matches on Dark, is tonight's opponent.  Britt's showing off some nice aggressiveness here.

Did I really just see what I saw at dinner?

Honestly didn't think Baker was going to have much of an impact so soon.  She nails a Sling Blade.  So far the pink thing is the only note Tony has read from.  Lockjaw WITH a protective glove gets the win. Can't tell you how much I appreciate the presentation of that move with the addition of the glove.

Hey, ABADON is on next week.  Despite not wrestling in 6 months in Dynamite, she's the #3 contender.  What in the absolute hell?

We're getting an Elite Deletion Match between Sammy Guevara and Matt Hardy at Full Gear.  I'm sure no one will be hurt badly.

Darby Allin is with Steve O. Does Darby cut a promo? Does he swear to win the TNT title?  No! He wraps himself in a body bad and rolls down a skate ramp.  What the hell happened to this show?  I really liked the first hour.

Last night on Dark, which I missed, is when Eddie Kingston, reintroduced Allie as the Bunny, distracting QT Marshall.  See?  Miss ONE episode and you miss so much.

Main event time: Butcher and Blade, who lose every single big batch they have, take on the Young Bucks, Private Party and 3 & 4 of the Dark Order.  I'd say Silver and Reynolds never win big matches, but they never actually have big matches.  Silver & Reynolds and Private Party don't get ring entrances on TV.

We're back from commercial.  The action is fine but I'm having that moment where I'm looking at the clock trying to figure out how much longer this has.  The match is alright but the company, as good as they've been with long term storytelling, have done a less than admirable job making us care about 75% of the teams in this match.  Butcher and Blade are stunned frozen and Nick Jackson nails a tope that luckily they catch him perfectly on.  Bucks cut the ring off get the pin on Kassidy off of a reverse rollup.  It's FTR vs. The Young Bucks at Full Gear.  After years of twitter banter, we finally get the match.  A masked asailant nails the Bucks with a chair and FTR comes down with a chair on Matt Jackson's ankle.  The masked man was Tully Blanchard.  Kind of makes me curious as to why he needed a mask.  To his credit, Tully came off the 2nd rope to assist on a spike piledriver.

That, boys and girls, is your AEW Dynamite.  Yeah...

By the way Jim Cornette's podcast, with a review of Le Dinner Debonair, will drop Friday or Saturday.  For some reason, I think it will be even more entertaining this week.  We are reminded of Private Party's win over The Bucks...last October.
