Match 1: Bobby Flaco vs Rob Killjoy
Flaco tries to keep Killjoy off his game, stealing his Quack taunts. Good technical sequence to kick it off, ending in a double drop kick and kip up. Flaco get tossed with a springboard armdrag. Flaco follows up with one of his own. Trading dives. Very “anything you can do, I can also do”. Killjoy with a springboard in but eats a kick to the head and a wheelbarrow flatliner which keeps him down for two. Killjoy sneaks a roll up for two. Missile drop kick and a running powerbomb, Flaco kicks out again. Killjoy walks into cutter and that’s almost it. They trade cutter attempts and....cutter each other? Double down, back up, back to back, Killjoy chops, Flaco wants a ddt, Killroy reverse into a brain buster neck breaker. Two count! Flaco with tornado ddt and a crazy looking poisonrana for the win!
Winner: Bobby Flaco
Commentary calls this a bit of a mirror match of matching styles. Accurate. I do love The Ugly Ducklings so glad to see Killjoy here. Great opener that got the socially distanced fans to chant a bit and clap to some escalating heavy artillery. Flaco reminds me a little of AR Fox.
Cabana Man Dan Promo - He says he’s back but he recognizes he hadn’t made a huge difference in Action in his last run. He has new clarity and emotional stability. And now, he gets to face O’Shay Edwards. Dan thinks he has an advantage because Edwards is looking past him to his match with Angelus Layne on the other side of the double header. We’ll see.
Match 2: Lutha X vs Kung Fu Janela
Lutha asks the ref to hold the ropes for him. He then goes under the bottom rope. WHAT A HEEL! Janela comes out to a metal version of “Kiss From A Rose” (well, guess I’m taking that off my potential cover list :D). Janela throws a kick, Lutha powders immediately. Lutha gets back and Janela beats him up and clotheslines him out. He is motivated here. X is frustrated, questioning, comes back in, immediately slung to the canvas and begs off. Janela misses a kick and eats a haymaker. Janela tossed to the post and Lutha lets him crawl back in. Dropping bombs from the top. Slaps in the corner, pokes the eye. Whipped to the buckle and a uranage but Lutha is too busy yelling at the crowd to make the cover immediately. Janela fired up and landing some Kung Fu punches and backfist. Pump kick send Lutha out. Flip to the outside and Janela hits it but might have wiped himself out on the concrete in the process. Janela wants a rolling punch, Lutha ducks and hits a huge brain buster and Janela is DONE.
Winner: Lutha X
Lutha is a great heel. No doubt. Backpedaling, easily frustrated and opportunistic. Janela had the crowd and the advantage but eyes can be raked and sometimes you shouldn’t tope to the floor. Good stuff.
Match 3: Jaden Newman vs Shane Dean
Jaden Newman is number 1. That’s what he says. He slaps Shawn. That slight is given a huge recipes of slaps, chops, drop kick and a tope to the outside. Dean with a standing blockbuster for two. Trading corner chops. Newman pulls Dean down by the hair and hits a springboard senton for two. Newman stomping and trying to break about the back and shoulder. Trading strikes but Dean pops Newman up. Newman’s feet catch the ropes and he damn near knocks up himself out. two count. Dean with a sunset flip and tiger driver for two. Popup knee for another two count. Dean to the top, misses a jump, Newman rolls him up with a handful of tights.
Winner: Jaden Newman
Dean has a great showing and shines here but Newman steals the win and takes a victory lap. Knowing the level of beat down Newman took about a week later, I didn’t feel so bad about this.
Match 4: Fred Yehi vs Kevin Ryan
Yehi takes the center of the ring and out grapples Ryan’s attempts to take the veteran down. Ryan tossed down, sent to the ropes, slammed and slapped to the mat. Ryan with a shove and eats a scoop slam. Yehi on the attack. Yehi has wrist control and using it to punish the younger Kevin Ryan. Ryan tries to trip Yehi to the buckle but that just annoyed him. 10 punch, Irish whip and a back drop. Yehi is stalking. Kevin with a flurry of strikes staggers Yehi. Double stomp the back and missile drop kick. Ryan tries to recover as Yehi makes it back to his feet. Chops to Yehi and a springboard back elbow for a 0.5 count. Ryan slips from a springboard into a suplex. Yehi got the wrist again and chopping the hell out of Ryan. Kevin with a flip counter drop kick and a moonsault to the outside. Another double stomp to the back, Yehi suckers him in for a two count roll up. Yehi on the top, Ryan with an enziguri and Spanish fly for two. Ryan back to the top but Yehi pops up and tosses him off. Suplex for two. Trip the leg, running kick for two. Immediate transition into a choke and Kevin Ryan is forced to tap. ??
Winner: Fred Yehi
I’m a huge mark for this type of match. Fred Yehi gave Eric Ryan a beatdow....er, test tonight. Ryan had some answers but yeah, not enough. Fred Yehi is really good. The announcer tries to take us to intermission but Brett Ison interrupts. He swears he will take A.C. Mack’s title from him. Mack is out to face down his opponent for the double header’s main event. The announcer says there are contractual and legal reasons to keep this pair apart for now so a bunch of guys from the back keep them apart as we go to intermission.
O’Shay Edwards does a promo from his kitchen. He’s eating pie and telling us that Action Wrestling wants to make money and put butts in seats. This is why they made this match. He likes Dan but he’s going to F**** him up....because that’s how he makes his money. I loved this.
Match 5: Cabana Man Dan vs O’Shay Edwards
The size difference here is.....a thing. Edwards shakes Dan’s hand. “You know what I have to do, right?” Edwards says. Dan tries to use his speed and quick grappling to stay ahead of Edwards but the Kaiju is too powerful and shrugs it off. Dan with a wrist lock takes Edwards to his knee but he power back up and shoves off a cross body attempt. Edwards goes to punish and chops the post. He catches CMB and tries to post him but gets run into it. Dean tries to get the count out win while Edwards is stunned. O’Shay makes it back. Dan with a pair of useless lariat attempts and gets chokes thrown to the corner. Edwards misses a tackle and Cabana Man Man gets a flurry in, with a senton for two. Unfortunately, Edwards crashes a clothesline that sends Dan to the mat and slaps on a nerve hold. Edwards wants a black hole slam but falls into a fujiwara armbar. Cradle for one. Edwards catches Dan into a bear hug. Two count on the arm but Dan rallies back. Breaks the bear hug but runs into a side slam. Spinebuster, release german and a powerbomb. Dan kicks out! Edwards wants a moonsault but CMB takes out the legs and hits a jackknife. CMB with flip flop chops, goes for sliced bread but Edward catches and hits a sit out tombstone for the pin.
Winner: O’Shay Edwards
Yep. Apparently I just like seeing people in one-sided long form beat down matches where the baby face keeps having to work their way back up the hill. This was awesome. CMB gave Edwards a heck of a fight towards the end. But uh yeah, Big Bad Kaiju smash.
We get a promo from Joe Keys and Suge D to hype their upcoming match. A contest of PURE WRESTLING. Pure Rules! Keys thinks he will be exposing Suge as a joke. Suge promises to stretch him.
Match 6: Joe Keys vs Suge D (Pure Wrestling Rules Match)
What are pure rules? 7 minutes. 3 rope breaks only. Closed fists are illegal (though you get a warning for the first one). Technical work to kick this off, Keys goes to the rope immediately and loses his first break. He throws a fist and Suge gets in the ref’s face when they call it open handed. Suge trying for a RNC but Keys pushes him back with a chop. Suge with a crossbody for one. Suge stomps the hand and holds him there. Flips through into a crucifix roll up for two. Keys gets the headlock and decks Suge. Ref misses that again. Suge is pissed off and slugs him blatantly. Ref sees THAT one and gives a warning. Keys catches Suge running into a tilt a whirl backbreaker for two. Keys with a stomp and slaps on a scorpion deathloock variant and Suge has to go for the rope. Suge with a snap suplex and follows up with leg kicks and a flying headbutt to the back of the head for two. 2 minute warning! Huge german suplexes from Keys. Keys with a lariat for two. One minute warning! Suge floats over a sunset flip into a german. Thirty seconds left as Suge slaps on a choke with a bridge and Keys taps right out.
Winner: Suge D
Keys is shook at the loss. He wants a handshake, Suge fakes walking out. They shake but Suge and Keys get mouthy with each other. Jawing head to head and Suge says to get the loser out of his ring. Suge is always great to watch but I like this newer in-your-face confidence and attitude a LOT.
Nolan Edward promo talking about filming JD Drake matches and how he can’t let his contest with him BE a JD Drake match. It has to be a Nolan Edward match and he wants Drake to know that he can hang with him. Drake promo to say that Nolan has potential....but it won’t be with footsteps on his name.
Main Event: JD Drake vs Nolan Edward
Last Edward was in Action, he got the holy hell beat out of him by Angelus Layne (thought he technically DID win). The former wrestling videographer has a huge mountain to climb in his opponent. Drake jaws with Nolan before landing a giant chop that Nolan somehow absorbs. Nolan tries to duck a chop an takes it on the forehead...and walks through it. Drake sent back a few steps and has to walk off the chops of Edward. Edward gets the wrist, the waist and the head of JD Drake. Drake wants another chop but he’s gets out wrestled while his chest looks like hamburger. Nolan has no fear as he takes out JD Drake at the knee. Slap to JD’s face and that was dumb...big man is mad now. Release Uranage and Drake is chopping the heck out of Edward. Tossed to the outside like trash and they trade slaps, forearms, chops and elbows. Drake rag dolls him up into the ropes and damn near KO’s him on the rebound to the floor. JEEEEEEEEZ. Drake says no count outs and it looks like the ref is going with it. Back drop to the apron and more chops. Nolan gets powerbomb Ed to the apron. Drake waits patiently for Nolan Edward to get up and drag himself back up. Snapmare and kicks to the back and chest from Drake. Ow. Drake kicks his head off but only gets a one count. Drake punishes with more slaps, a lariat and a jackhammer for two. Drake telling Edward to stay down. He doesn’t listen and is crumbled by a spinning backfist. Edward back up to eat a big elbow but he’s in Drake’s face looking for more. Drake brings it with chop after chop until Nolan flips around with a series of receipts. Drake with a big boot and senton for two. Drake with another chop and Nolan is smiling. Drake misses a kick from the second rope. Edward with a spinning back kick, axe kick and a kick to send Drake to the outside for a dive. Nolan with a missile drop kick but Drake stays on his feet. Drake reverses into a spinebuster but Nolan kicks out. Wrsitlock lariat, kick out! Drake is frustrated and confused that Edward will not die. Nolan absorbing chest kicks while Drake tells him to stay down. JD Drake with a Drill Bit, butterfly neckbreaker but takes too long for the cover and Edward kicks out. Drake stalking with stomps and kicks. Drake takings breath in the corner as Nolan Edward crawls over and up the leg. Drake is confused and drags Nolan to his feet for more chops. Nolan is on wobbly legs as he puts his arms behind him for another one. Drake is wide-eyed as he is forced to double chop and slap Nolan Edward to death. Nolan with a reversal into a saito suplex. He wants a follow up DDT but Drake with a stunner. Drake drags him to the center and goes for a moonsault. Miss! Nolan with a rolling elbow and high angle roll up. 1, 2, 3!
Winner: JD Drake
BIG FIGHT FEEL DAMN DUDE. Loved this all the way through. While it WAS another “one-sided whipping” match, this one had nearly Fiend-ish levels of Nolan Edward walking through offense that should have laid him out cold and created a different dynamic to the previous similarly setup matches on the card. Absolute fantastically brutal encounter. Flash win after an absolute beating from JD Drake, who punched himself out trying to kill Edward. Drake on the mic. He tries to tell the ref that his shoulder came up. They show him the replay and he’s forced to eat crow. Drake says “Where the hell did you come from, kid?”. He says he remembers Nolan Edward from an EVOLVE tryout and respects him for taking a Grade A whipping and failing to die. Drake gives Edward a towel that he wore to the ring against Matt Riddle, a massive show of respect for someone who didn’t have enough brains to stay down.
And that’s it for “ACTION Shock”! Action puts on wonderfully entertaining stuff. This card built great, every match feeling like it upped the ante from the last one. The main event was extra levels of brutal. One huge note: THEY ARE RUNNING THE PA THROUGH THE CAMERA FEED SO YOU CAN HEAR PROMOS IN THE RING. I CANNOT OVERSTATE HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME AS A VIEWER (especially after a certain set of shows I watched recently). So yeah, watch it! Its 2 hours! It’s good! Action ran a second card after this one called “Friday Night Fight” which I will cover...Soon! It has Brett Ison and AC Mack in a No Rope match so I definitely will be doing that. Until then!
