By Oliver Taylor on 2020-10-14 09:52:00

New Japan Pro Wrestling

New Japan Pro Wrestling held its sixteenth G1 Climax show today in Yokohama Budokan.

The full results were:

• Yota Tsuji def. Yuya Uemura
• B block: KENTA def. YOSHI-HASHI
• B block: Zack Sabre Jr. def. Juice Robinson
• B block: Tetsuya Naito def. Toru Yano
• B block: EVIL def. Hirooki Goto
• B block: SANADA def. Hiroshi Tanahashi

Following today’s show, the updated B block standings are:

1. EVIL (6-2 record): 12 points
2. Tetsuya Naito (6-2 record): 12 points
3. SANADA (5-3 record): 10 points
4. Zack Sabre Jr. (5-3 record): 10 points
5. Hirooki Goto (4-4 record): 8 points
-. KENTA (4-4 record): 8 points
7. Hiroshi Tanahashi (3-5 record): 6 points
-. Juice Robinson (3-5 record): 6 points
-. Toru Yano (3-5 record): 6 points
10. YOSHI-HASHI (1-7 record): 2 points

EVIL, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito are the only three remaining competitors. While it is not official yet, one could reasonably assume either EVIL versus SANADA or KENTA versus Tetsuya Naito will headline the B block final on October 17 in Ry?goku Kokugikan.

EVIL holds the tiebreaker over Naito. If EVIL defeats SANADA, he wins the block regardless of Naito’s result.

SANADA also holds a tiebreaker over Naito. If SANADA defeats EVIL and Naito loses to KENTA, he wins the block.

Naito needs to defeat KENTA and SANADA to defeat EVIL or EVIL and SANADA to draw to win the block.

New Japan has also confirmed the match order for the A block final on October 16 in Ry?goku Kokugikan.

The confirmed match order is:

• Gabriel Kidd vs. Yota Tsuji
• A block: Jeff Cobb vs. Yujiro Takahashi
• A block: Minoru Suzuki vs. Shingo Takagi
• A block: Kazuchika Okada vs. Will Ospreay
• A block: Kota Ibushi vs. Taichi
• A block: Jay White vs. Tomohiro Ishii

The block is Jay White’s to lose. He currently leads the block with 12 points with tiebreakers over Kota Ibushi and Kazuchika Okada. If White defeats Tomohiro Ishii, White wins the block.

Ibushi needs to defeat Taichi and Ishii to defeat White. Okada does not factor into Ibushi’s equation.

Okada needs both White and Ibushi to lose and to defeat Will Ospreay.

Ospreay is the least likely to win the block. He needs to defeat Okada, Yujiro Takahashi to defeat Jeff Cobb, Taichi to defeat Ibushi and Ishii to defeat White.
