By Matt Macklin on 2020-10-13 16:27:00

G1 Climax Day 15, October 13th:

A Block

Jeff Cobb defeated Will Ospreay.  This was a very good match.  Cobb tossed Ospreay around with suplexes early on. Ospreay began building momentum and used his flying to counter out of Cobbs power moves. He turned a Tour of the Islands attempt into a Code Red.  He hit a Sasuke Special and a 450 Splash. Cobb tossed Ospreay acrosss the ring with an F5000 and went for Tour of the Islands again and again, but Ospreay kept avoiding it. Ospreay went for the OsCutter, Cobb caught him and launched him into the corner, but Ospreay landed on the ropes and bounced out into an OsCutter. He went for Stormbreaker, but Cobb turned it into a German suplex and finally hit Tour of the Islands to score a very big win as we head into the final day of block action.

Kota Ibushi defeated Yujiro Takahashi.  Again, it just wasn’t believable for Yujiro to get in so much offence on a top star, and for Ibushi to take so long to beat him. Yujiro dominated a long portion of this. It picked up towards the end, and would have been so much better if it was shorter. Yujiro hit most of his arsenal on Ibushi. He even hit a fisherman’s buster from the middle rope, followed by another for a big near fall. Ibushi avoided Miami Shine and hit a bicycle knee to set up Kamagoye. It was fine, Yujiro tried, but Ibushi should have dropped him much faster.

Taichi defeated Shingo Takagi.  This was really good, their styles complimented each other well. Taichi used a bell hammer to take the advantage early. Shingo started unloading with strikes and the match picked up pace. There was a good explosion of strikes, that ended when Taichi hit a back drop driver. Taichi mocked Shingo and hit a Pumping Bomber, so Shingo stoke his Gedo Clutch for a great near fall. Taichi hit some really great looking kicks to the head to cut off Shingo’s momentum. Shingo hit Made in Japan and Pumping Bomber for good near falls. Taichi hit Last of the Dragon for a near fall. The finish saw Taichi hit a really good superkick to set up Last of the Dragon to get the win.

Jay White defeated Minoru Suzuki.  This was great stuff. Suzuki became the default babyface. White took shortcuts, and messed with Suzuki early on and there were some incredible close ups of Suzuki’s passed off face.  White introduced a chair to the match, but Suzuki ended up using it. White targeted a knee, but Suzuki soon fired up, got tired of Whites crap and began dropping him with hard forearms. White tries to leave, but Suzuki was having none of it. Suzuki used a heel hook, but White got to the ropes. White went for the Bladerunner, but Suzuki had an incredible counter, like he was a snake catching its prey and turned it into an armbar. White tapped out, but Gedo had the red distracted, so Suzuki dropped Gedo. There was some nice back and forth as they countered between the Bladerunner and Suzuki’s sleeper. Just as Suzuki looked like he had it, another Gedo distraction allowed White to hit Bladerunner and score another victory.

Kazuchika Okada defeated Tomohiro Ishii.  This was as great as you’d expect from these two. They played off Okada’s G1 story and it forced Ishii to pull out some different things. The match picked up pace when they traded forearms, a battle which Ishii won.  Okada put together his combo of moves that lead to the Money Clip, but Ishii escapes and began working over an arm with a kimura. A fantastic spot saw Ishii no sell an Okada top rope dropkick and instead come off the too rope with a knee drop to the arm. The counter wrestling in the was superb, playing off how well they know each other, as CHAOS mates. Okada went for the same pin he beat Suzuki with, twice. He hit three dropkicks and two tombstones. Ishii would fire back with headbutts and hard lariats. Okada had to battle finally hit a spinning lariat, and again went for the Money Clip, which Ishii amazingly turned into a Codebreaker. Okada got the Money Clip again and used a back breaker to keep Ishii down. He eventually passed out and the referee called for the bell. This was another one of the top matches of the tournament. Ishii is a G1 legend.
