Freelance Wrestling “I Don’t Think We’re In Chicago”

The Collective 2020: Part 8

10/10/20 - Indianapolis, IN

Let’s see if this actually starts at 11:59pm. FITE is live! “No Signal from venue” WELP. Not shocked considering how late Spring Break ran and how much blood and glass were left in the arena by the main event.

OK, I have a few minutes to breathe. OBVIOUSLY, the delay is not Freelance’s fault. *chugs caffeine*

12:31 and we’re liiiiiiiiiiive and kicking off with a wild one!

Match 1: Isaias Velasquez vs Lee Moriarty

Moriarty’s weekend of high-level matches takes him to Freelance against their first champion (now former). Lock up and Vasquez with a wrist lock but loses it. Isaias trying to trap Lee but get pretzeled instead. Pace picks up, Velasquez with a couple of quick pin attempts. Headlock takeover and Lee is getting neck cranked. Moriarty breaks free and hits some head scissors and a drop kick. COmmentary calls out the tape on Moriarty’s back as Isaias hits a big backbreaker. Shots to the spine and a back drop. Lee fires up with a kick to the face and a double stomp to the jaw of Velasquez. Springboard corkscrew flatliner for a two count stuns Isaias. Isaias connects with a kick and Hammer of Dawn double underhook spike piledriver for the win!

Winner: Isaias Velasquez

Good match. Lee was clearly hurting after his clash with Jonathan Gresham a few hours prior. Isaias smartly targeted that area and took him out.

Match 2: Brothers of Funstruction (Ruffo & Yabbo) vs Warhausen (Danhause & WARHORSE) (for the Freelance Underground Tag Team Championships)

These are scary hobo clowns. They have a “box of fun” they bring into the ring. This is their second title defense. They recruit Danhausen. Danhausen tries to recruit WARHORSE. WARHORSE brings him back. The clowns take WARHORSE’s nose. THe clowns try to learn head banging. WARHORSE tries to instruct but they ambush WARHORSE. Juggling balls and thrown in WARHORSE’s chest. Danhausen is in and hitting the ropes....forever while WARHORSE waits in a camel clutch for his partner to stop and boom the clown. Yabbo with a sit out facebuster to Danhausen. Ruffo putting the giant clown boots to Danhausen. Danhausen gets a mouthful of popcorn for his trouble. Ruffo choking out Danhausen with a handkerchief. It turns out to be a very long chain of them. Yabbo gets germaned and Danhausen gets WARHORSE into the match. Time to rule some clown ass. Clowns down on the outside. Danhausen call for TEQUILA! WARHORSE getting into it as the clowns eat kicks. Danhausen with an up and over german suplex on Ruffo. Yabbo with the pull on the ref’s leg to break the pin. Yabbo brings in a crutch. WARHORSE takes it. Ruffo blasts WARHORSE with a cowbell from the box of fun. Ref rings the bell.

Winners (by DQ): Warhausen

This was silly fun and the right thing to keep the crowd hot in this late hour. DQ finish means the clowns keep the belts. SPEAKING OF CLOWNS...

Match 3: Effy vs Robert Anthony (w/ Frank the Clown) (for the Freelance Legacy Championship)

The crowd hates Frank the Clown. That’s fair. Intense scramble as Robert wants that belt. Effy introduces him to the grind and Robert needs a moment and pep talk from Frank. Effy gets the wrist and arm drags Robert out of the ring. Effy creates a little tension with Robert as he tries to pull his pants off. Anthony makes it to the top rope with his pants around his ankles and gets tossed off. Effy tries to take his own pants off but Effy gets thrown to the buckle. Robert gets his pants up and goes to work, suplexing Effy over and over. Robert with a chin lock and slows the pace down. Effy grabs the nipple and then bites it. Northern lights suplex that Robert has to kick out of. Frank hits Effy with a shoe and Robert gets a close two count. Frank the Clown has clippers to shave Effy’s moustache. Effy puts Frank over his knee and shoves the clippers up his butt. Effy with a big lariat and Robert kicks out. Frank grabs Effy’s foot, allowing Robert Anthony to hit a rolling DVD to win the Legacy Championship.

Faye misses a Vader bomb. Frog splash from Laynie but Faye kicks out. Luck pulls her unicorn mask in the ring and she now is at full power, no selling and hits a German on Faye. Faye caught in the mouth with a kick and Laynie hits a uni-cutter from the second rope to get the pin.

Winner (and still champ): Laynie Luck

Faye matches are always fun and Laynie was along for this ride. The unicorn mask hulk up gimmick is a good goof. I blink and the world disappears a moment. I may be slightly tired. Lol.

Match 6: Shane Mercer vs Ethan Page vs Colby Corino

All Ego is blown away that it’s 2am. Right? I hear you, man. Page lays down and uses the apron as a blanket before getting up into the match. Mercer is overpowering at the start. Shane back up with an enziguri as All Ego is trying to come off the top. Page with a scoop slam off the top. Corino wipes out Page but Shane hits a moonsault powerslam for the definitive pin.

Battle to the rope, Kylie rolls it back to the center. Josh Alexander has nowhere to go and is forced to tap out!

Winner (and still champ): Kylie Rae

Waaaaaaaaaaaaoooooooow. Epic main event level main event here. Kylie and Josh were trying to kill each other by the end of this. Great drama (heightened by the good storytelling on commentary).

That’s it for Freelance’s “I Don’t Think This is Chicago”. What a close to The Collective's Day 2! Truthfully, I was exhausted walking into this but every match was engaging and kept my attention. Everyone was showing out and that is always great to see. Show ran slightly over 2 hours (greatly appreciated after Spring Break’s epic length). Easily worth checking out, especially the scramble, triple threat and main event.

Tomorrow at 12pm is Black Label Pro’s “Threat Level Noon”. Time for the sleep thing and then we close the weekend out strong. Until then!
