THE ROCK'S BLACK ADAM LOSES THEATRICAL RELEASE DATE

By Mike Johnson on 2020-10-06 00:33:00

Fans are going to have to wait a little longer for The Rock, Dwayne Johnson's take on DC Comics' anti-hero Black Adam.

Warner Bros. removed their Black Adam film from it's planned December 2021 release as they shifted a number of films back due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  Black Adam has not yet been given a new release.

Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian predecessor of DC Comics' Shazam! who became corrupted after receiving his powers. He's one of the more powerful and popular DC Comic villains and would allow Rock to play a darker character.  There were allusions made to him, but not by name, in DC's feature film adaptation of Shazam! last year.  Originally, Black Adam was slated to start shooting this summer with a December 2021 release, but obviously, everything has been pushed back in regard to production.

Several weeks back at DC Comics' Fandome virtual gathering, Johnson revealed that DC Comics' superhero team The Justice Society of America would be featured in the film, including the characters of Hawkman, The Atom Smasher, Dr. Fate and Cyclone, all of whom will be featured in a live action theatrical film for the first time ever.
