THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CBD AND LEGAL CANNABIS

By Kendall Jenkins on 2020-08-27 12:13:00

Cannabidiol (CBD) has experienced a meteoric rise in the wellness market over the last few years by opening up new horizons for a wide range of potential health benefits with any side effects of intoxication.

According to a survey conducted by Gallup in 2019, 14% of Americans used CBD in some form, mostly for medical reasons. As CBD continues to gain prominence around the world, more and more people are now becoming curious about this therapeutic cannabis derivative’s pros and cons.

Unfortunately, CBD is still surrounded by a fair amount of misinformation. That’s why an average consumer needs more guidelines and educational resources to make an informed decision about CBD.

Mentioned below are some essential CBD facts that every current, as well as potential CBD user, must know.

  • If you are unfamiliar with CBD, the legality of this substance may be a cause of concern for you. As per the 2018 Farm Bill, industrial hemp-derived CBD is not a controlled substance under federal law, provided it contains less than 0.3% THC. Please remember that CBD derived from hemp or marijuana containing more than 0.3% THC is still federally illegal. However, it may be legal in states that permit adult and medical use of cannabis. It’s best to double-check with your state because laws are different across states.

  • The therapeutic and non-psychoactive character of CBD has emerged as one its major selling points. However, it is not 100% accurate to claim that CBD has no psychoactive effects. Scientifically speaking, CBD is psychoactive because it does have a direct impact on the mental processes of mood and cognition. The most well-known psychoactive impact of CBD is the calming effect that is often associated with cannabinoid.  However, unlike THC, CBD is non-intoxicating because it doesn’t make users feel high. On the other hand, THC is intoxicating because its psychoactive impact may leave users temporarily impaired. Because of its non-intoxicating nature, CBD is often considered to be a “non-psychoactive” cannabinoid.

  • The wide range of potential benefits of CBD may be attributed to the complex manner in which reacts with the human body.  This interaction takes place through the endocannabinoid system, endocannabinoids or an internal system made up of endogenous cannabinoids, cannabinoid receptors, and the enzymes that break them down. According to research, CBD may be responsible for reducing the absorption of anandamide, the pain regulating endocannabinoid of the human body. CBD has also been shown to inhibit the release of neurotransmitters, helping reduce epileptic seizures. CBD may help treat depression and anxiety by activating serotonin receptor 5-HT1A. Also, it targets alpha-3 glycine receptors to help suppress chronic pain and inflammation.

  • If you are looking for high-quality CBD oil, please be mindful of the fact that all products are not the same. Finding a quality product can be challenging, particularly for beginners. There are three major CBD types and formulas available on the market. Isolate is the purest form of CBD in which all other cannabis compounds are removed completely. Full-spectrum contains the full CBD spectrum, cannabis-derived terpenes, minor cannabinoids, and trace amounts of THC. Finally, broad-spectrum has the same components as the full spectrum with the trace amounts of THC removed.

  • A study conducted in 2011 showed that CBD has a favorable safety profile. As per clinicians, this means that CBD doesn't affect psychological functions and major factors such as body temperature, blood pressure, or heart rate. It has also been observed that the human body can easily tolerate a daily CBD dose of up to 1,500 milligrams. Therefore, CBD is generally safe and physicians recommend getting started with small doses and working slowly towards higher ones.
