LOADED LINEUP FOR LAWLER'S 50th CELEBRATION, SANTINO SHUTTING DOWN BATTLE ARTS ACADEMY, TONY FALK DAY, NZO, MAD MAXINE & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2020-08-13 12:57:00

As previously noted on PWInsider.com, there will be a 50th Anniversary event celebrating WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler's debut in Jackson, TN on 9/26 with Kane, Doug Gilbert, Tommy Rich, Bobby Eaton, Bill Dundee, Tony Atlas, Dory Funk Jr., Koko B. Ware, The Rock N' Roll Express, Tom Prichard, Longtime Memphis Referee Jerry Calhoun, Wolfie D, Downtown Bruno, Sgt. Slaughter, Lex Luger, D'Lo Brown, George Gulas, Candi Divine, Ric McCord, Bambi and more set to appear.  The show will take place at the The Ballpark at Jackson, with only 3,000 fans allowed in the stadium's stands and another 200 seats on the field.  If it wasn't for the pandemic, I can pretty much guarantee I'd be attending this as that's a heck of a collection of Memphis personalities.

Anthony Carelli aka Santino Marella announced he will be shutting down his Battle Arts Academy with two final live events on 9/12 and 9/13.    Carelli announced that he had been looking to buy property near the Georgian Bay near Lake Ontario and an amazing property ended up in his lap and that a dream home landed in his family's lap when they least expected it, but the move will mean he can no longer operate the Academy, which is located in Mississauga.   The final shows will have a maxmimum attendance of 100 fans and the school will shut down on 9/30.  Marella noted that closing the facility is bittersweet but with his father getting older and not well and his own son about to turn 2, he wants to spend more time with family.

Today is officially Tony Falk Day in Paducah, Kentucky.    Falk, who had a long run as a professional wrestler in the Memphis territory before promoting different independent promotions, will be honored today at 4 PM at the Oscar Cross Boys & Girls Club of Paducah, where he will be named a "Duke of Paducah" by Mayor Brandi Harness.

Rack Attack Promotions announced they will be holding a virtual signing with former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Nzo.

The book The Chronicles of Mad Maxine by Jeannine Msjoseth, who briefly worked for WWF as Mad Maxine, has been released on Amazon Kindle in advance of a paperback release next month.  Promotional material for the book notes:

The Chronicles of Mad Maxine tells one woman's story of training to be a lady wrestler at the Fabulous Moolah's School of Professional Wrestling. The novel, set on the 30-acre training camp in Columbia, South Carolina, is a fictionalized account of author Jeannine Mjoseth's experiences in the mid-1980s when she became skilled at the flying head scissors, the soaring suplex, and the body slam. Both hardcore wrestling fans and people who've never seen a match will thrill to the raw action both inside and outside of Camp Moolah's training ring.

The novel's main character, Pippi, is a passionate young reporter who wants to infiltrate the world of professional wrestling for a live-it, write-it journalism project. But she doesn't just observe the world of slaps, punches, and bumps and she can't betray trainees with whom she's developed deep friendships. Instead, she throws herself into training and emerges as Mad Maxine, a 6'2" grappler with a mohawk. At the head of the enterprise is the Fabulous Moolah, an infamous lady wrestler turned manager who has clawed her way to the top from dirt-poor beginnings. Pippi gets a hard lesson about her deceitful ways during her first match for the World Wrestling Federation.

Msjoseth is slated to sign at the Legends of the Ring convention this October in New Jersey, her first wrestling-related appearance in decades.  Others set for that event are Kane, Tito Santana, Brodie Lee, The Ascension, Eric Young, Mark Jindrak, Heath Miller, Melina, The Ascension, Joey Janela, The Good Brothers, The Colons, The FBI, Davod Otunga, Kizarny, Afa, Sika and more.
