It was announced this morning that as of 9/1, DDT Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH, who each have the same corporate owner, will merge into a new promotion, Cyberfight. The plan is to incorporate aspects of each promotion into the new group.
DDT Pro Wrestling founder Sanshiro Takagi will be the President of the new promotion with NOAH's Naomichi Marufuji and DDT's Akito working underneath him as Executive Vice President.
DDT Pro Wrestling has been the epitome of DIY professional wrestling, slowly building itself from the fringes of Japanese professional wrestling over the last 20 years, emerging an underground promotional powerhouse. For the last 20 years, DDT has been subverting all expectations to represent all walks of life, twisting all long standing traditions into what might be best thought of as the wrestling world's equivalent of Marvel Studios' Deadpool.
Pro Wrestling NOAH was created to be the spiritual successor of Giant Baba's All Japan Pro Wrestling, formed in 2000 when the late Mitsuharu Misawa led an exodus of 24 wrestlers from AJPW to create the new promotion. Since Misawa's passing, NOAH has gone through several ownership changes.
Takagi stated in a press conference announcing the merger that the promotions are being fused to financially assist each side as the COVID-19 pandemic has brought financial hardship and that the long-term goal for the new company is to eventually run the Tokyo Dome. Takagi tweeted, "From September 1, DDT Pro Wrestling Co., Ltd. and Noah Global Entertainment Co., Ltd. will be merged to operate NOAH, DDT, Tokyo Women's, Gun Pro as Cyber Fight Co., Ltd. The group remains the same! Don't worry! Overtake New Japan Pro Wrestling, the No. 1 in the industry! Details will be released!"
